The plot is the JRPGest JRPG that ever JRPG'd, but in a good way if that makes sense? The basic combat mechanics are based on managing positioning and cooldowns, in a way that reminds me of WoW. The soundtracks are just hundreds of straight bangers (from this and other battle tracks to the goofy Riki/Nopon-related tracks to Satorl Marsh (Night) and other beautiful pieces), and the environments are gorgeous (even the initial Wii release!) XBC 1 and 3 are two of the best RPGs ever made IMO (up there with timeless classics like Chrono Trigger and FF6, newer ones like Sea of Stars, and RPGs that don't really share the "J" DNA like Baldur's Gate 3). 2 is a little rougher but I still enjoyed it. Likewise X, though that's a scifi spinoff.
(If you get the XBC1 Definitive Edition release, I personally prefer the original soundtrack over the re-recorded versions, but the game lets you choose. May also just be me being so used to the original, though--I haven't paid enough attention to its fandom to know how well the DE soundtrack was received.)
