- Old Music recorded by R W Emerson (Circa 1955) from carousel while at playland at the Beach San Francisco.
New pictures of same Carousel now at Children’s Creativity Museum in Yerba Buena Gardens.
The history of the LeRoy King Carousel (copied from web site):
1906 Constructed in Rhode Island by renowned designer and craftsman Charles I.D. Looff. The carousel was intended to be installed in San Francisco, however it could not be due to the great 1906 earthquake and fire.
1907 Installed at Luna Park, Seattle
1913 Moved to San Francisco’s Playland-at-the-Beach
1972 Playland-at-the-Beach closes. Carousel purchased by private collector and put into storage in New Mexico
1983 Moved to Shoreline Village, Long Beach, CA
1998 Purchased by the City of San Francisco, fully restored, and opened in its current location at Children’s Creativity Museum (formerly Zeum) in Yerba Buena Gardens
2014 Restored and renamed in honor of former San Francisco Redevelopment Commissioner LeRoy King

I literally just used this video for work! Our hotel's carousel doesn't play music anymore sadly, and this made multiple children's day!

I don't see how this is scary. It sounds really nice. Reminds me of those 1920s cartoons or like a loony tunes short. Especially that first one.
sad that people these days find anything wholesome creepy or unsettling but are completely fine with teens and 12 year olds singing about WAP and doing weed...... of course people have the right to what they want with their life but it’s disappointing how little innocence we have left in our youth

I love the sound of that orchastriun! A few of those tunes are carousel CLASSICS! Like "When you are in love" ",Cruisin down the river(on a Sunday afternoon)"don't know the last tune but it's an old piece played for circus acts.

It is one of my favorites since l was seven years old! I loved watching and listening to the music while recognizing the magic of its mirrors. This was the magic of the Knotts Berry Farm carousel, for now I am seventy one years of wonderful experience 😀 and love the movie "Something Wicked, This Way Comes". Carousel magic and mysticism is what I am all about! My name is Silversun, and yeah, I love 😊 ❤ carousing around carousels 😂!
Sounds like there are multiple instruments playing here...
1 - A large orchestrion (possibly a Seeburg H?)
2 - Nickelodeon piano with mandolin
3 - Nickelodeon with accordion reeds (which also need tuning!)
4 - A (Seeburg?) orchestrion
5 - A player piano
6 - Orchestrion with percussion and flute pipes
7 - A player reed organ
8 - A Wurlitzer 165 band organ (plays for the rest of the video)
Besides the Wurlitzer 165 band organ, I've never seen such instruments playing music for a carousel.
@@SasiakGnarly There's a carousel in Prague that has a Hupfeld barrel orchestrion that plays music for it. It's one of the oldest carousels in the world.
The first half sounds like it was played by an orchestrion, that's pretty rare for a carousel! :0

Every time I hear carousel music, I remember that epic scene at the end of Season 1 of Punisher, of him and Billy Russo fighting in a carousel, so Billy gets shot in the face and the music starts to get distorted, and you know how it will end, in mirror etc. Very good! 🔥🖤🤟🏼

Lili no this carousel was originally installed at Luna Park in Seattle in 1905 and after a fire burned down the park, it was moved to Playland at the Beach in San Francisco Ca In I think 1915 where it ran until the amusement park closed down on Labor Day in 1972. It currently resides at Yerba Buena Park in South of Market Area in San Francisco
I kinda like the bit of eerieness of it being untuned

So much difference to a carousel for example in Budapest where they mostly have those beautiful monarchy times Strauss polkas and waltzes running from CD. These funny and creepy tunes have a different kind of harmony and beauty. And nothing beats a live band organ.

The second half of music is from the Playland Wurlitzer model 165 organ. A VERY good recording! A rare recording of this instrument now in Santa Cruz. How can I get a copy of this recording? Thank you!
John Kavanagh hi John, I was born and raised in SF in the 50’s and rode that carousel hundreds of times. I remember that Wurlitzer 165, but I also remember a Artizian style D band organ, and also I believe there were 2 Wurlitzer 153’s on that merry go round. Do you know what ever became of them?

This carousel is at Yerba Buena Gardens near Moscone convention center in downtown San Francisco. But it formally operated at Playland at the Beach in SF from 1913-1972

This carousel was so much better and ran faster when it was running at Whitney’s Playland at the Beach. It was more colorful, and lights that went around circular on the inner & outer rounding boards. Also had 4 playing band organs that played real music, and not this tape crap!!!!!!!
can't you tell it's not a tape? it's just really out of tune. don't complain so much i think it sounds awesome
@@syakesan979 It is a tape, or piped in music. I’ve been inside that carousel building many times, and there is not a real band organ playing there. At Playland it ran faster, and had 4 band organs that played live music. Your certainly entitled to your opinion, but facts are facts!!!!!

@@jcBurton2094 No no my reason isn't because of that. It just sounds off-tune and the video is distorted a bit, so it sounds kinda creepy and off to me. I like carnival music, especially for Carousels. I rode a couple of these in my life, and they don't really sound this distorted, though i guess when i rode them it is using speakers, rather then what sounds like bagpipes.
