OMG you are me when it comes to how I shop too for these things. I am PICKEEEEEH and I do get overwhelmed also. It's like I just don't like when tings look CHEAP! but I have been able to deal with it by saying to myself just IGNORE IT. I keep my eyes moving and my hands moving the mouse etc. and it works for me. Goes away instantly. As the saying goes the devil/fear/overwhelmed feelings etc. come before I rise. So I recognize my enemy and keep it moving. I wanna see what's on the other side that God had in store for me.
A fun tip for me is that God made me realize I can hack any piece I buy. Like no handles and patch up the holes gives me the clean more expensive look I'm going for. I am not OBLIGATED to put the piece together the way they sent it. THANK GOD. per the island you showed which I saw too, It was the handles that cheapened it for me. Once I imagined it flat panel only it brought the piece way up. I felt my whole body relax. The other issue was the whole marble on the seating side. can replace that with all white and then it's a whole new thing. Or wood paneling that looks and feels high end. cheap since it's only a few boards. Myb buying to Hack and customize is best. Then I just make sure that I'm not making so many changes it doesn't justify the price I paid for it. Now I feel better about getting a small island for my kitchen too.
I finally feel I can put my multi-year (yes I'm that picky lol) search for an island to bed now. Since islands that have what I want can cost thousands I feel that I can cap it at $800 to $1,000 after paying less than $700 for the bones of a pre-made product and feel just fine about it. AND I think I found the right barstools for it as well. Fingers crossed. Oh! And I also plan to Epoxy the contact paper. I want the extra sealant. and it would give it a more realistic gloss like the natural stone. I intend to ask the person putting it together to make it waterfall not have that slight overhang on the sides. HTH!
