I simply loved this when it first came out, a lot of my friends hated it, but I loved it lol. I was lucky enough to meet Richard Carpenter, he seemed a different person without Karen and a very odd character bless him. I know this was a cover, but the way they re-did this they certainly made it their own. Way ahead of its time! Love from dreary Cornwall :-D
you write so beautifully - it's like a book that you don't want to stop reading - you are a very good communicator Terry..also you never tell a story and then ask for something which a lot of marketing people do guising as subscribers hoping that by saying something nice they then push in a request which I won't do as I work for free and get paid nothing for my effort, so it's so refreshing to just read nice crafted stories - you just reminisce which is a joy to read, full over gratefulness and honesty. Never change, people like you are fast disappearing, seriously....😞🕊🙏🏽
Karen was taken from us much too soon. Imagine what they could have done with this if they had access to Hubble pictures. Thank you for this posting. See,I don’t just watch your Nightwish reactions. As always you put so much into your thoughts on a piece. Really sorry to hear about your father. Lots of love from Brian, Jane, and Abigail.
This was one of the late night songs on Radio, when the subject of Space Aliens, Star Teck, Star Wars, etc., was going to be discussed. The original song was recorded by...... uh, no one remembers, but when Karen sang this song, it took off. Not her usual love song, right? I think the Carpenters did the song in jest.
I don't think it was in jest. I heard Karen say in a interview, that her and Richard spent more time on producing this song then on producing some of their albums. And they spent a lot of money on it too.
@@zigman8550 The reason I said it was in jest, is "Richard arranged as a spoof phone-in to a radio station DJ, played by the band’s longtime guitarist Tony Peluso." I had heard that Richard, spent nearly 2 months in the studio, editing the recording, but not that Karen spent that much time on the song. I love this song, and had never seen this video until 10 months. I still tear up, when I hear Karen singing this son on late night radio, when it's played, as it brings back memories of me, when I was stationed at Nellis AFB. At that time, we knew of Area **, but weren't allowed to even say it outloud. We called it "Tonapah," among us Military troops.
I just heard of the group that sang the song. It was Klamath. They were very good. Not as good as the Carpenters, but Klamath rendition of this song was excellent and Klaatu's music video was better.
The thumbnail for this came across my feed and wow, you are so so gorgeous. I love the Carpenters, my favorites are: Mr. Guder (prefer the lives), Masquerade, and ...THIS! :)
"Mr. Guder" is about a former supervisor that Richard Carpenter and John Bettis had at Disneyland, where they were briefly employed in 1967 to perform songs from the early 1900s. They ran afoul of their boss when they strayed into performing contemporary songs on request, eventually leading to their dismissal. The song "Mr. Guder" was their revenge.
@@psycheinc-theSLC I'm not really sure what Karen Carpenter would think of the state that the Earth's in. I'm pretty sure she was a forward-thinking woman and I know she had a kind heart, so she'd likely be very depressed about the direction of thinks. But yes. She's gone from us now. I don't necessarily believe in Heaven, but if there is one, then that's where she is. Hopefully it's better there. No racism, no sexism, no nuclear drama, no war. Stay safe, Psyche Inc.
Yes it was ground breaking but there was a lot of new music and fantastic artists like the Carpeters from the 70's that was ground breaking as you say Queen and ELO also the first lady of Rock Suzi Quatro (which you may not know) she was also ground breaking. David Bowie etc. Plus many more singers and bands, so it wasn't as though it was a new thing to be ground breaking record companies and the artist were more concerned if it was going to work or not. Then when it did work the rest is music history.
@@psycheinc-theSLC Hi! there is a new documentary coming out soon hopefully it's called Starving for Perfection. All about Karen Carpenter. I can't wait to see it...
Yikes! At the 1:25 mark Karen slowly emerges and that incredible voice starts to sing...otherworldly! The rest is just so much amusingly creative filler...
Wouldn't this be a cool song to listen to with friends at Burning Man? I'd drive up there but I can get loaded without dropping $1,200 to do it. Maybe something heavier than pot. Happy 4/20 😇 Karen TOO SOON😭
One of the few Carpenter's songs that doesn't really age well. It was better in its day...lot of UFO movies, etc going on at the time...like Close Encounters of the 3rd kind.
What a voice, such clarity in all her songs

In my top 5 of fav Carpenters songs ever. Vocally Karen nails it i think. Thanks for the reaction to this! :)
ME, TOO! I am your fellow Carpenter friend and soulmate. May Karen's voice live on to enchant people for countless generations to come.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I adore this comment ❤️ Thank-you Willson Fanily x
this is song is kinda magical, as it is very unusual for them ???.
This is such a special song and a vocal bravura by Karen. Also one of my top 5 Carpenters songs..❤❤❤❤❤
I remember thinking the Carpenters would be great for handling a contact. Certainly not NASA or the Feds Jimbo
James....😂🤦🏽♀️
Great assessment of a Grammy nominated masterpiece. 💚
This and Star wars were quite a 1 2 punch in the SUPER 70S!!

Karen's voice would be the best voice for first contact
A fantastic observation ♥️
I love this...I wish Karen could've been the link between earth and aliens lol❤️ love her voice more than any other singer

i would love this to happen xxx
With all the sightings across the world of UFOs now, this song is very apt. Timeless song, and full of meaning, R.I.P Karen Carpenter.
Cracker
My favourite song a different and unique song by them
You drift into space listening to this amazing song

A good follow up to this might be Mr. Guder; about a robot. They have some scary harmonies in the song. Almost too good to be human.

amo essa musica..mesmo na versão original do Klaatu
We miss ya, Karen. You were just too damn pure for this puke-stained Earth.
Could you imagine what she'd think of it now Joseph? 🤦🏽♀️ - anyhow she is resting in peace and probably in a better place than us 🙏🏽🕊🌹

Carpenters work are always Masterpieces. They were not artista and talented musical which is not the same and are not elements found together

Close Encounters, that film was and is still amazing. Spielberg was pure genius.
