I like to think the reason Spike doesn't have wings is because he was born too early. I mean think about it. When we first see his egg there's no cracks in it. Not to mention TWILIGHT hatched the egg, not Spike from the inside.

as you can see in the canterlot wedding episode, the changelings were defeated using the elements of harmony. Love is what feeds the Changelings and make it stronger. Love is stronger than anything else, basing from real life. So if there was a love element as a 7th element from the Elements of Harmony, it would end up feeding the Changelings instead of actually destroying them, since love is stronger than anything else, making it stronger than the other elements. But there are also some dis-advantages on my theory. The love element might feed them, but not for power, but a different reason. The real reason. To love. The changelings can be destroyed with love, by making them friendly, loving, and pretty much change personality. I really approve your theory, very much! Maybe one thousand years ago (Or so) There was only five elements of harmony and the main was was Generosity. But, then Twilight came along and she made the other element: Magic. So the picture with the elements could be the elements back then but, since Generosity was the main they just put Twilight's element on the edge because they didn't want to ruin what they believed in. The green element is an alternate version of generosity inspiration in one of the episodes spike found a book for rarity when rarity finished reading the book her magic aurora changed color the color green her love of INSPIRING ponies became a big deal resulted her turning ponyville into a sparkly mess.
I have a theory for why Spike hasn't any wings, Since Spike was hatched by magic, he probably wasn't fully evolved in his egg, he is deformed. It's short but who cares it might be true.
I’m an expert on dragons and I know of the type of dragon that Spike is. All the other dragons we’ve seen in the show are within the range of Indian Hydras, European Dragons, and Sea Orcs. Spike however is none of these species. Spike is a Drake. A drake is a type of wingless dragon and it seems like spike is a War (Siege) Drake which can grow to be 5 meters. So if Spike in the episode Secret of my Excess Spike is seen mostly standing on his hind legs. If a War Drake were to do so he wouldn’t have been that size. But perhaps he is an extinct type of Drake.
The reason spike might not be using his intelligence to full power is because he's a BABY DRAGON! He obviously was younger then the other dragons and he has only had 1 birthday if he was incredibly smart he would be speaking and moving around when he was a baby!
Later in the show, there is a flag with the elements of harmony........ SEVEN gemstones are shown on the flag. People think it is scorpans element. What does he have to do with anything?!

I love this theory! Very interesting idea. Also, Celestia was using six elements to destroy Nightmare Moon, but the element of magic was never discovered until Twilight came along. Maybe it isn't just an animation mistake. Maybe, the writers have been hinting at something all along. Sadly, I don't think they would develop a show for little kids that deeply. I would, however, love to see this play out in the show. Maybe Celestia sensed something in Spike. Something special like Twilight. But she didn't want Twilight to worry (we all know she would) so she didn't let her on. But she did tell Spike. And the whole Spike is a dog thing, Celestia probably put a spell on his egg so it would be difficult for phillies to open. Only a future Alicorn would be able to open it. I love this theory, I really do! But there is just one hole in it, how come the tree of harmony only had 6 slots to be filled in the season 4 premeiere, and also was brought back to full power, wouldn't it have required the seventh element to disband the plunder vines? Some details to note from some of the last episodes of MLP: FiM- - Spike gets his wings, he was just too young to develop them yet. He also later grows to be as big as Celestia and future Twilight Sparkle. - He is also included in the defeat of the Legion of Doom, which included the Pillars, the future six, and the Elements of Harmony's representative characters, with Spike being grouped with the Elements of Harmony.
And speaking of being part of a great plan my sister had a theory about Fluttershy being Princess Luna's assassin/ spy to kill Princess Celestia so she can rule Equestria because she thinks that Luna is still a bit evil. She also said that Applejack and Rainbow Dash are in on it too.

What about the G1 Spike? He was Scorpan's assistant, whose abuse from Tirek directly caused Scorpan's betrayal. Is it really that hard to imagine that in the G4 reboot, Scorpan realized the evil Tirek was causing, and would leave his dragon assistant Spike in the care of Celestia? Celestia, promising to keep Spike safe, would likely cast all sorts of spells on him. when she realized that he was needed with the next bearer of the EoH, she sealed him away inside an egg, only capable of being released by one worthy.

I have a lot of theories about the "Seventh Element" idea. It could be 1. Inspiration, 2. Memories, Because those are very important in a friendship. 3. Forgiveness, (and a LOT more..) but none of these would really require being an element because they all come with friendship naturally. But you may be right about the element being about sacrifice. An element of sacrifice would definitely fall on Spike. And maybe, this seventh element is the most powerful one yet. Though then the elements wouldn't be equal. It is possible that there will be 8 elements total because the elements of harmony is a close synonym(Or is it hynonym?) to the word equality. And these elements are most probably secrets until they come around. It will take some time to see if these theory's are true or not but all we can do is wait and see.
Well.. spike does have a secret. FiM is remake-sequel of Rescue from Midnight Castle and in that show Spike was.. servant of the Midnight Lord Scorpan and his first friend. Tirek threat Spike to force Scopran obedience after he steal his power and that power is in fact nothing else then Element of the Magic. Spike not only relate to elements he is most likely dragon counterpart of Alicorn. Furthermore we can presume that even after RftMC incident Spike may fallow own master. He was related to Sombra incident and it is worth to mention that in G3 Princess Promenade he say Wisteria that he wait thousandth year for a process (alongside other references that suggest that Lauren Faust plan that from beginning to include all other shows in her remake). Also about egg.. alongside Spike clearly using magic when summoning spell of Dragon Lord was cast by wand. He can alter his age what we know from episode when he become a teen and later back to own previous age.. again another trait of Alicorns as Luna also alter her age between first and second season. Anyway it is possible that Spike deliberately revert to egg waiting on his master and Celestia know everything about that. Spike is basically most reliable way to track Scorpan. PS: Holly crap.. seventh element is really missing! I didn't notce that before, but it don't appear later with Three of Harmony. My guess? Three also has other power.. it has similar marks as Luna and Celestia cutemarks. It is totally possible that seventh element referee to that part of Midnight Lord power, and stone itself was just copy as sisters use it before they "discover the tree" (we can presume that only Luna didn't know about it). Spike remove it because someone would ask what it is. And in case of Equestria Girls Sunset Shimmer basically is counterpart of Celestia as that world Celestia don't have power over day/night cycle.
I don't think he's an element of harmony, I think he's another element- that without it, the other elements are only of harmony, not FRIENDSHIP. If, you are generous, but are doing it for an evil (not selfless) intention, it isn't a gesture of friendship, but simply harmony for the time being, friendship lasts longer than harmony.

What if the seventh element was like a chip off of the element of magic and it was attached to the element of magic's guardian. Spike, representing this shard of this element would form from the element itself, twilight hatching him infused him with this magic since the elements magic comes from within the elements guardian. And this part of the element would represent something that it needed therfore the Guardian lacked. Something that they not only lacked but needed. Empathy. What if spike is the seventh element and not only that what if that's how sunset received her respective element, receiving it from twilight and making her the element of empathy as well. Since it was formed by magical feats, that would explain the color differences. But that's just a theory.

Ok, I am in LOVE with this theory, but think again. Writers of MLP (A show for 6 year old girls), are not the Gravity Falls writers. They don't trick you or leave hints or clues. The Element seen was put there by Hasbro, so is this candy colored pony show trying to hint their was a SEVENTH element? Perhaps something Celestia thought would clog her plan of Equestria being safe, from what? And what is that element representing? Is it from Starlight, Sunset, or straight up Flurry? We can only guess: Long ago, Celestia stole a *powerful* dragon egg from an even more powerful dragon, the Queen. (This would explain why Princess Ember and Spike got along so well) As Celestia knew the Queen was powerful, she disguised the egg, seeing that Spike knew his biological colors. The reason we see the King and not the Queen, we can safely guess she was killed. In (Gauntlet of Fire), Spike has a flame dance across him when he picks up the Staff. Perhaps a spell, put for when the Prince touched it, it could wake the spell the Queen was under? And Spike has an urge to take an ELEMENT OF HARMONY! But why? Maybe because that Element was the person to stop something involving him? He abruptly put his tail out to trip Sunset in his sleep, to reveal her. Maybe she was the pony stopping him, and he sensed this. Sunset turned into a raging she - demon. And how? Because Spike tried to corrupt her before she turned good. But since he was too late, what drastic measure will he take next?
I agree with the green element possibly being spikes meant to be possession. In one of the episodes SPIKE was called for a friendship problem, though we know that on the map...the ponies' cutie marks glow and guide them to where they need to go on the map, though Spike doesn't HAVE a cutie mark. As you said the elements are the colours of the ponies' cutie marks..the scales on the top of spike's head were glowing and they were GREEN.

I think that twilight was not originally going to be the element of magic sunset was but when she toke the evil path they needed a replacement so the role went to twilight meaning sunset misted her chance to be connected to the elements. In over words your wrong no arenas 😐
Why doesn't sunset Shimmer have a dragon? Or the other students? When Twilight took the test, it was suppose to be a normal entrance exam, and you can't really keep a school going with just one pony and we know Twilight was going to Princess Celestia's school not with the intention of actually becoming her personal pupil.(We can see that when Celestia comes to calm her after the rainboom).I've given up the possibility that Celestia's school really is just for one pony because that's how Twilight made her Canterlot friends, they were school ponies just like herself. Shouldn't that mean all the other ponies have dragons of their own? Then there's the possibility of the entrance exam is different for every pony but I have ruled that out too, because it simply wouldn't be fair to the other ponies. And no, I haven't forgot about Sunset Shimmer either. Since she took the test same as Twilight Celestia would have seen immense power in her(Such as Twilight) So opening a dragon egg should have been an easy task for her. So where is her dragon? Perhaps, when she went through the mirror her dragon went with her. The difference between a dragon and a dragon is huge, such as Life expectancy. A normal life span for a dog is about 12 years but that's not certain. A dog's death is a pretty common thing so maybe she lost her dragon/dog due to an unfortunate accident, but I'm not sure. I'll say that I think it's plausible that Spike could be a seventh, as of yet unrevealed element. But I have to disagree that 1: The elements are the equivalent of a magical nuclear warhead. I think that they simply a cosmic balancing scale. The ideal of the balance belongs to whomever created them. 2; Celestia wasn't given Spike's egg. Celestia either stole his egg from the nest when she had a chance, for whatever reason. Or, she took his egg from the nest of a dead mother. Perhaps his egg is older than the fandom believes. She could have taken it years, decades, or even centuries before hand. Perhaps Spike was always meant to be this seventh element, but by the time Celestia found out, she thought the egg dead, but held it anyways. This video is three years old, and I haven't watched the first episode, but the rainbow shock-wave was enough to cause Twilight to forcibly change her parents into plants. With how much power that might have taken, who's to say it wasn't not enough to give life back Spike's egg, or to alter his innate biology?
In the episode where Twilight AJ and Rarity have that sleepover, Twilight actually says that Spike went by himself to Cantrlot for “business” this honestly could be proof that in the current cannon he could at one point had maybe been some back up plan formed by Celestia in case the mane six failed. She probably told him to hold on to the extra element in case anything happened and the main six were incapacitated. But when the gold oak library (Twilights library) exploded, the extra element might have gone with it… Or that time we saw it was just a little nod to the first episode 😊 Whatever you want to believe

I love this theory! Very interesting idea. Also, Celestia was using six elements to destroy Nightmare Moon, but the element of magic was never discovered until Twilight came along. Maybe it isn't just an animation mistake. Maybe, the writers have been hinting at something all along. Sadly, I don't think they would develop a show for little kids that deeply. I would, however, love to see this play out in the show.
Maybe Celestia sensed something in Spike. Something special like Twilight. But she didn't want Twilight to worry (we all know she would) so she didn't let her on. But she did tell Spike. And the whole Spike is a dog thing, Celestia probably put a spell on his egg so it would be difficult for phillies to open. Only a future Alicorn would be able to open it. The spell may have given Spike genetic problems where he can't grow wings or grow properly. Don't get me wrong. I love Spike! This is just adding to your theory. 😝
spike was taken out of dragon culture before he was born, so maybe he *assumed* that dragon eggs are the same color as the dragon and since the only time he ever saw it was when he was too young to remember it he wouldn't have known what color it actually was, even if he did remember it he went to sleep before seeing the outside if I'm not mistaken
he also grows wings in season 8 meaning he was probably just taken out of his egg before they grew
*ALSO* the sending letters to the princess thing might have been a spell celestia casted on spike to make things easier for twilight.
but wait, there's more, spike isn't a fully grown dragon, so he turned into a dog because he was the size of one and close enough to one ((it is also possible that as a dog he was also still a puppy, meaning that is a fully grown dragon somehow got through, they might have turned into a fully grown dog and even if spike (((in dog form))) is fully grown, the mirror could just turn a fully grown dragon into a larger dog)).
also side note: it is possible celestia found spike's egg alone which would mean he was either lost or abandoned

But there is just one hole in it, how come the tree of harmony only had 6 slots to be filled in the season 4 premeiere, and also was brought back to full power, wouldn't it have required the seventh element to disband the plunder vines? This is only a nit pick but dont let it destroy the theory!

What about the G1 Spike? He was Scorpan's assistant, whose abuse from Tirek directly caused Scorpan's betrayal. Is it really that hard to imagine that in the G4 reboot, Scorpan realized the evil Tirek was causing, and would leave his dragon assistant Spike in the care of Celestia? Celestia, promising to keep Spike safe, would likely cast all sorts of spells on him. when she realized that he was needed with the next bearer of the EoH, she sealed him away inside an egg, only capable of being released by one worthy.

He's very Loyal to Twilight(when she's there) but he was at EXTREME level of loyalty in "Spike at Your Service" or what ever it was called. And he was GENEROUS enough to... Uh... Uhm... Gimme a second (10 minutes later, trying to find moments where he's generous) yeah I can't find anything besides- Well, he gives alot of letters to Celestia.. Heh... Does that count as generous? OH WAIT HE SAID "We need to stop Nightmare!" that'd be a GENEROUS action (if he was there) And... He's VERY kind. Especially to.. Everyone! And... I have a lot of theories about the "Seventh Element" idea. It could be 1. Inspiration, 2. Memories, Because those are very important in a friendship. 3. Forgiveness, (and a LOT more..) but none of these would really require being an element because they all come with friendship naturally. But you may be right about the element being about sacrifice. An element of sacrifice would definitely fall on Spike. And maybe, this seventh element is the most powerful one yet. Though then the elements wouldn't be equal. It is possible that there will be 8 elements total because the elements of harmony is a close synonym(Or is it hynonym?) to the word equality. And these elements are most probably secrets until they come around. It will take some time to see if these theory's are true or not but all we can do is wait and see.

Well.. spike does have a secret. FiM is remake-sequel of Rescue from Midnight Castle and in that show Spike was.. servant of the Midnight Lord Scorpan and his first friend. Tirek threat Spike to force Scopran obedience after he steal his power and that power is in fact nothing else then Element of the Magic. Spike not only relate to elements he is most likely dragon counterpart of Alicorn. Furthermore we can presume that even after RftMC incident Spike may fallow own master. He was related to Sombra incident and it is worth to mention that in G3 Princess Promenade he say Wisteria that he wait thousandth year for a process (alongside other references that suggest that Lauren Faust plan that from beginning to include all other shows in her remake).
Also about egg.. alongside Spike clearly using magic when summoning spell of Dragon Lord was cast by wand. He can alter his age what we know from episode when he become a teen and later back to own previous age.. again another trait of Alicorns as Luna also alter her age between first and second season. Anyway it is possible that Spike deliberately revert to egg waiting on his master and Celestia know everything about that.

PS: Holly crap.. seventh element is really missing! I didn't notce that before, but it don't appear later with Three of Harmony. My guess? Three also has other power.. it has similar marks as Luna and Celestia cutemarks. It is totally possible that seventh element referee to that part of Midnight Lord power, and stone itself was just copy as sisters use it before they "discover the tree" (we can presume that only Luna didn't know about it). Spike remove it because someone would ask what it is. And in case of Equestria Girls Sunset Shimmer basically is counterpart of Celestia as that world Celestia don't have power over day/night cycle.

I don't think he's an element of harmony, I think he's another element- that without it, the other elements are only of harmony, not FRIENDSHIP. If, you are generous, but are doing it for an evil (not selfless) intention, it isn't a gesture of friendship, but simply harmony for the time being, friendship lasts longer than harmony.

What if the seventh element was like a chip off of the element of magic and it was attached to the element of magic's guardian. Spike, representing this shard of this element would form from the element itself, twilight hatching him infused him with this magic since the elements magic comes from within the elements guardian. And this part of the element would represent something that it needed therfore the Guardian lacked. Something that they not only lacked but needed. Empathy. What if spike is the seventh element and not only that what if that's how sunset received her respective element, receiving it from twilight and making her the element of empathy as well. Since it was formed by magical feats, that would explain the color differences. But that's just a theory.

Ok, I am in LOVE with this theory, but think again. Writers of MLP (A show for 6 year old girls), are not the Gravity Falls writers. They don't trick you or leave hints or clues. The Element seen was put there by Hasbro, so is this candy colored pony show trying to hint their was a SEVENTH element? Perhaps something Celestia thought would clog her plan of Equestria being safe, from what? And what is that element representing? Is it from Starlight, Sunset, or straight up Flurry? We can only guess:

(This would explain why Princess Ember and Spike got along so well) As Celestia knew the Queen was powerful, she disguised the egg, seeing that Spike knew his biological colors. The reason we see the King and not the Queen, we can safely guess she was killed. In (Gauntlet of Fire), Spike has a flame dance across him when he picks up the Staff. Perhaps a spell, put for when the Prince touched it, it could wake the spell the Queen was under? And Spike has an urge to take an ELEMENT OF HARMONY! But why? Maybe because that Element was the person to stop something involving him? He abruptly put his tail out to trip Sunset in his sleep, to reveal her. Maybe she was the pony stopping him, and he sensed this. Sunset turned into a raging she - demon. And how? Because Spike tried to corrupt her before she turned good. But since he was too late, what drastic measure will he take next?

I agree with the green element possibly being spikes meant to be possession. In one of the episodes SPIKE was called for a friendship problem, though we know that on the map...the ponies' cutie marks glow and guide them to where they need to go on the map, though Spike doesn't HAVE a cutie mark. As you said the elements are the colours of the ponies' cutie marks..the scales on the top of spike's head were glowing and they were GREEN.

Why doesn't sunset Shimmer have a dragon? Or the other students? When Twilight took the test, it was suppose to be a normal entrance exam, and you can't really keep a school going with just one pony and we know Twilight was going to Princess Celestia's school not with the intention of actually becoming her personal pupil.(We can see that when Celestia comes to calm her after the rainboom).I've given up the possibility that Celestia's school really is just for one pony because that's how Twilight made her Canterlot friends, they were school ponies just like herself. Shouldn't that mean all the other ponies have dragons of their own? Then there's the possibility of the entrance exam is different for every pony but I have ruled that out too, because it simply wouldn't be fair to the other ponies. And no, I haven't forgot about Sunset Shimmer either. Since she took the test same as Twilight Celestia would have seen immense power in her(Such as Twilight) So opening a dragon egg should have been an easy task for her. So where is her dragon? Perhaps, when she went through the mirror her dragon went with her. The difference between a dragon and a dragon is huge, such as Life expectancy. A normal life span for a dog is about 12 years but that's not certain. A dog's death is a pretty common thing so maybe she lost her dragon/dog due to an unfortunate accident, but I'm not sure. What do you think of my crazy Theory?

I'll say that I think it's plausible that Spike could be a seventh, as of yet unrevealed element.
But I have to disagree that 1: The elements are the equivalent of a magical nuclear warhead. I think that they simply a cosmic balancing scale. The ideal of the balance belongs to whomever created them.
2; Celestia wasn't given Spike's egg. Celestia either stole his egg from the nest when she had a chance, for whatever reason. Or, she took his egg from the nest of a dead mother. Perhaps his egg is older than the fandom believes. She could have taken it years, decades, or even centuries before hand.
Perhaps Spike was always meant to be this seventh element, but by the time Celestia found out, she thought the egg dead, but held it anyways. This video is three years old, and I haven't watched the first episode, but the rainbow shock-wave was enough to cause Twilight to forcibly change her parents into plants. With how much power that might have taken, who's to say it wasn't not enough to give life back Spike's egg, or to alter his innate biology?

In the episode where Twilight AJ and Rarity have that sleepover, Twilight actually says that Spike went by himself to Cantrlot for “business” this honestly could be proof that in the current cannon he could at one point had maybe been some back up plan formed by Celestia in case the mane six failed. She probably told him to hold on to the extra element in case anything happened and the main six were incapacitated. But when the gold oak library (Twilights library) exploded, the extra element might have gone with it…
