  • Arnold Schwarzenegger in conversation with Jamie Lee Curtis at Live Talks Los Angeles discussing his book, "Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life." The talk took place on October 13, 2023.
    The seven rules to follow to realize your true purpose in life-distilled by Arnold Schwarzenegger from his own journey of ceaseless reinvention and extraordinary achievement, and available for absolutely anyone.….
    Arnold Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-born bodybuilder, actor, businessman, philanthropist, bestselling author, and politician. He served as the thirty-eighth governor of California.
    The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. .
    In his new book, he details the seven tools he believes we all need to follow to find true purpose and success. During his childhood in a rural Austrian town, the chief lesson his father drilled into him above all, and which serves as his title, is Be Useful.
    Spend an evening with Arnold to learn more about his life-changing successes and life-threatening failures alike-some of them famous, and some shared here for the first time ever.
    Jamie Lee Curtis is an actor, author, activist, producer and creator. She won both a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and SAG Award this year for her work in Everything Everywhere All At Once and has received numerous accolades and nominations in a decades long career. Her film debut in Halloween in 1978 brought her to attention of audiences worldwide. When she reprised that role 40 years later in 2018 its opening weekend was the biggest debut ever, for any movie in any genre, to feature a female lead character over 55 years of age.

    I love the way he thinks. I knew he was an actor but have never seen any of his movies. I must add, that I am Austria Born, raided in Quebec but in the 50’s, no tv, no internet only a radio who spoke to us in French. We went to English school but learned French. I also lived in Austria for 6 years in my 20s. I get the way he thinks. I know how he grew up. This man is brilliant. Love you Arnold.

    My brother showed me an original studio registered script of True Lies starring Jamie Lee and Arnold all those years ago when he was doing the visual effects for James Cameron's company Digital Domain where the effect of atmospheric distortion caused by the Harrier plane's exhaust was first invented. My brother Mark also was on the Titanic team that won an Oscar for the computer generated wave action against the ship. My dad Murray was on the team at Burroughs who first invented the cursor on the computer screen and also the function that made letters show up on the Cathode Ray tube (green writing on a black screen). I like to brag about them since I have no such skills. 😊

    "A public servant, not a party servant." Brilliant Arnold! That's a brilliant idea Arnold, and it's a shame that others who hold public offices don't think that way, which is probably everyone since Senator John McCain died.

      Arnold is a Republican, but he cannot stand Donald Trump, which earns him a point from me, which is strange coming from me, because I am not a Republican.
      The fact that Arnold is a womanizer, removes two points from me. He cheated on his former wife Maria Shriver, who is a Kennedy family member, and ended up fathering a child with his and Maria's housekeeper. Maria filed for divorce in 2011, and wasn't finalized until 2021. I know California is a equally divided property state when it comes to divorces, but 10 years? What the Hell was up with that?? The only conclusion I can come to, is Arnold didn't want to divide his wealth with Maria. They lived together as husband & wife for 25 years, or 35 years if you factor in the 10 years it took to finalize their divorce. Whew.....that's a tough one!

I have disabilities and I always did public service jobs, but never earned a lot of money. I knew what my goal was in college. I never got to finish school because I had to work and I had to take care of. my dad‘s mom and I’m not wealthy like Jamie Lee Curtis, or anything like that. None of us are people with disabilities and we come from different families and we’re not in charge of our money ever and our families are in charge of our money and they pay our taxes for us cause we’re on the lower end of the spectrum some of us want to be actors some of us want to be college-educated.

    I think when Arnold says background checks....he means he really cares that only responsible people should be able to own firearms. That process of what defines responsibility would need to be clearly laid out. Lets explore. Some are taught by their parents or family to be responsible, exercise safety...but does that mean that someone raised in that fashion can't become upset and do something unlawful with a firearm? What ensures that a person would be more reasonable in managing enraging thoughts when it is a new experience? Should all parents be required to give anger management courses to their children before they encounter reasons to be upset later in life? Are all parents good at teaching? Should they be required to see a professional educator? What if the children think that idea is so ridiculous they don't take it seriously and therefore these lessons should be mocked and rebelled against? The world is increasing in manufacturing and intelligence capabilities. Firearms can likely be made from scratch in the shadows if one were so inclined and perhaps sophisticated enough. If someone were deemed irresponsible and unsafe for firearm ownership.....would there be a process whereby the individual could prove that they are responsible and safe with a firearm? Has anyone tried employing AI right now in real time to conduct a test in data collection both realtime and as a matter of historical record to warn the likelihood of an unlawful shooting event? If so is it accurate and would that make background checks unnecessary? What are the cultural ramifications when compared to other less strictly regulated cultures, does one culture become more obedient and less independent and therefore susceptible to tyranny from another culture or even it's own culture? Every time a man or woman's heart is broken from a cheating spouse or significant other, should they be required to notify anyone that they are not a danger to themselves or others? What builds character or personality such that they trust themselves and are trusted by others? If so, how long does this last, is there anything that can break them and drive them insane? Have there been any thorough scientific and transparent investigations into the mind and history of any unlawful shooters and have there been any attempt to develop methods to reach out and communicate anything highly potent, psychological or otherwise as a tool of intervention? Since these intervening campaigns have been launched, have they had any effect that can clearly be measured to be effective? Are things getting better or worse? Thx

      IN OTHER WORDS.... lol... Arnold is sensible and correct about the issue of gun ownership!!

    • @twobraincells4364
      @twobraincells4364 5 месяцев назад

      Well, there are many things that can be turned into weapons, such that banning guns in and of itself would not prevent someone committed to murder from actually murdering another person, so then what we want to do is prevent crime essentially and that is a spiritual and educational matter as well as a matter of addressing causes for inequality, unfairness and injustice as well as how we treat people that have been left behind with regard to awareness of good and evil.@@Marty-mm6uz

      Are there absolutes? Some people may or may not still be alive that absolutely should not own or have access to a firearm. Some people may or may not still be alive that absolutely should own or have access to a firearm. Haha. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

    • @twobraincells4364
      @twobraincells4364 5 месяцев назад +1

      Lets check these absolutes. Why? For the first absolute I think it is clear. For the second absolute, the issue is security and immediacy or imminency of danger coming from animals or humans that pose a threat of death or serious injury. That threat between humans should be managed for a variety of reasons and the best way to manage it in my opinion is to allow the parties involved to reason amongst themselves and others the factors involved that should compel and influence a unified consensus from which peace and tranquility can emerge and exist. Similarly, that threat between humans and animals should also be managed. The parties in this case should consider the amount of risk they are willing to take by way of reason or instinct while maintaining the right to defend themselves to the best of their ability. Humans are highly able to defend themselves from all known species in the animal kingdom if they have access to or possess the tools to do so. Animals attack humans when they perceive a threat from the human whereby flight is not an option, and when they view humans as food.

    It's good to see two real people talking authentically with each other. We all have our acceptable levels of neuroticism. But if we talk with each other and do a fair exchange of information, we can all overcome our personal struggles and step out past our grievances. When we freely share our concerns, our reciprocal cooperation phases through any mental blockages, discovering what lays past the fourth wall of what we know.

    And also I did do a little bit theater, grown-up as a child, but it was a community theater. It was called Magic moments and then couple years later during my recovery from my phone ankle surgery my two sisters and I were in another production of Magic moments called the Drive in and I tried fourth wall street theater company through. I forget the name of the church. It was in Ann Arbor. Michigan but it was that evangelical church I don’t like environment I don’t like the music I’m Catholic and I’ve even had to act as a wedding planner for somebody with disabilities. I don’t like community service and I didn’t do it for money. I did it cause I wanted to and was a way I could help people with disabilities, but I want to be a divorce lawyer eventually someday but That’s never gonna happen. I don’t want to do Airport public service jobs anymore. I just can’t I tried and I get injured or almost a seizure every single time so I’m not built for that.

    Interesting but both of them are so politically correct it makes one want to gag (Jamie: "ladies, gentlemen, and others"). And Arnold bragging on and on about how many women and minorities he brought into the California political process. What happened to Martin Luther King's idea that people should be judged by the content of their character?? Also, why not ask Arnold - not about how he became governor - but what he did with the governorship, which was widely ineffective in terms of getting the state back to solvency, as he promised.

    Jamie Lee Curtis - a nepo-baby [an offspring of two famous parents] interviews Arnie, a totally self-made man who is too humble to call himself "self-made," because
    he has the grace and dignity to aknowledge people without whom he couldn't have made it.
    Jamie Lee Curtis always so overbearing, so omniscient, so full of herself, no sense of humor at all... But - her pomposity makes it even more interesting to watch how
    galantly and elegantly Arnie is navigating this interview.

      you are so wrong about JLC that I held my breath reading your comment. Janet and Tony are long gone. Any job she gets is based on her own resume. she has a bit of drama in the way she speaks but she is articulate and not just vamping. See her conversation with Colin Farrell. It may change your mind.

      I have exactly the opposite view of Jamie Lee. I've found her to be funny, .open about her learning curve as a mom about the same time as mine was, I found her to be humble, in love with her husband, & easy to relate to.
      Arnold has found his way to that humble, funny & respectful place.
      I enjoyed this interaction a great deal.

Your comments are spot on, there is something superficial in her, confirmed by her statement on Israel Palestinians : she sent a picture with a mention which said "imagine the horror of the Israelis kids when hamas rockets are raining on tel aviv" Social media followers replied to her with derision that those kids on the picture are Palestinians. She removed the picture and replaced it with Israelis kids! Performative indignation.
