Yeah, thats right. It’s just a phrase we use to describe lead guitar playing in the context of bluegrass music. It’s mostly alternate picking on an acoustic guitar. Not totally sure about the etymology of the phrase but my guess it that people called it “flatpicking” to differentiate it from fingerpicking guitar or banjo which are both also used in bluegrass

So, at it's core, is flatpicking mostly straight up alternate picking or is there something lurking in the picking style that makes it unique?
