You can always just unplug it that way you can go back easily. I am definitely with you on this. In my opinion the truck drives much better this way, especially off road /snow.
Greetings from Okoboji! Center diff lock works in high range as well. That's what I do. You can do it on the fly, and it kills the traction control as well as giving you 50/50 power which is great for hooning. In fact I did just that this afternoon after all of this snow today! It does still click when it detects slip but it doesn't cut power. Besides, exercising your diff lock isn't a bad thing. Enjoying the GX content, keep up the good work!
Great info, I didnt know you could do it on the fly, I never tried because I assumed no. So, technically, if its clicking its cutting power.... you may just not notice it that much if your doing donuts and you have your foot in it, that and it may not cut it as aggressively knowing the t-case is locked. Im pretty impressed with the GX t-case and how it splits power.
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks The power cut is pretty imperceptible then cause with 90° fishtails at only maybe 1/4 throttle I couldn't feel it cut. Regardless, these things are tail happy and a hoot to drive in the snow!
Got stuck in the mud this weekend on my T4R while on a trail.. the traction control was not helping and in general has always been a pain to deal with. Definitely following your mod here. Thanks hawk
First, I agree with the thought process and have bypassed traction controll on several vehicles. However on the GX is that not why we got the 2nd start option? 2nd start should do the same thing as feathering throttle since it cuts power? Possibly reducing the agressiveness of traction controll?
I ended up cutting the green wire and installing a switch. The switch works and it turns off traction control but now I’m wondering if it matters what wire you should cut? Black and white or green wire? Any input??
Interesting mod. I was testing the other day and found that in my 09' 4Runner I can kill the VSC and traction control with a factory switch in the dashboard. A switch that from my understanding isn't present on 03-07 4Runners. However is nice to have the option, for me specially in sand. Greetings from Bolivia!
I'm with you. For us DRIVERS' drivers, traction control is more of a liability. Is there no other override, not even a button sequence using the driver's controls?
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks I had a good reason for asking... I once regularly drove the 2010 Prius (don't judge me--my employer bought a fleet of them, I had no choice). The owner's manual did NOT contain it, but somewhere in the annuls of the Internet I found the technicians' override sequence for disabling the traction control--it was a lot like entering a cheat code in a Sega Genesis game. It involved the ignition pushbutton, the steering wheel buttons (stereo controls, maybe?), and the brake and accelerator pedals. I needed the override for getting the parked cars out of the snow.

Yes you can just unplug it, being able to switch back and forth is way better

Thats for use in Low range, off road.
So this would be best going off road in some mud? This mod was already done on my gx and I’m going off-roading first time tomorrow.
Probably just for doing donuts in the snow.

Not sure
What year is your gx @hawkeyeskunkworks.
Wondering what years the wiring is the same color as yours

Yes, some of the later 4th gens did have a traction control switch but its pretty rare. Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks. Did you end up installing a switch for this?
Kind of…. need to make another video about it soon
@@HawkeyeSkunkWorks looking forward to it!
Does this work for the LX 470 as well? Having some vsc Issues.
Im not sure but I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same
Is that white/black striped wire a ground or hot?
……I honestly don’t know🧐

No not on the GX

@@iFixJunk if that exhausts for the GX I haven’t seen anything about it, if that exists someone needs to figure it out!
