Today, as we gather to celebrate the Feast of Christmas, we are invited to reflect on the profound mystery of the Incarnation - the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a time of great joy and rejoicing as we commemorate the moment when God entered into our world, taking on human flesh, to be with us and to save us.
The readings for today's celebration paint a beautiful picture of this sacred event. In the first reading from the Book of Isaiah, we hear the prophetic words proclaiming the coming of the Lord and the restoration of His people. "Behold, the Lord proclaims to the ends of the earth: Say to daughter Zion, your savior comes!" These words remind us of the hope and anticipation that filled the hearts of the faithful who awaited the Messiah.
The psalmist invites us to raise our voices in joy and thanksgiving for the birth of our Savior. We are called to join with all creation in proclaiming the good news of salvation.
In the second reading, Saint Paul reminds us of the reason for this celebration. He tells us that, "When the kindness and generous love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us." Paul reminds us of the incredible love and mercy that God has for us, demonstrated through the gift of His Son. It is through this act of love that we are saved and given new life.
