What surprised me - the speaker quality and fidelity is very good. Better than my 219. Nice solid little package.

This is a neat little pocket radio. Short Wave IS useable, as it does receive the main stations well enough, and especially with a length of wire - however it’s the tuning that would hold this back, as it takes a good amount of Patience, and tuning extremely slowly.
I ALSO learned that on AM [ MW], this radio tunes 1 kHz at a time, thus covering both North America, 10 kHz, and World 9 kHz. Which is cool, but also makes tuning a little bit more precise [ having multiple “steps “to each frequency. So you have to tune slower to find the “Peak “- or sweet-spot, where the station is strongest.
    📻🙂

Neat little radio, Tom. The smaller (analog dial) radios make for some tight tuning issues and you can pass by a station pretty quickly. Thank you for sharing your review, as well as Jeff's of this radio,, (Mike N HOC)

Hello Tom, I just received this XHDATA D-220 from Amazon yesterday (Tuesday August 13th). I really like it and it does a great job on AM and FM. I got a few stations on SW yesterday afternoon but very weak. I am going to try SW again overnight tonight. I also got the yellow color as it says on the box but it does look more like orange in person which I like. Thanks again for the review as always.

Because of the multiple bands, the D-219 is easier to tune on SW than the D-220. It does not have FM stereo.

  • @tekvax01

The FM1 band is NOT just for the United States... Canada utilise the same exact band for FM broadcast.

I would buy this D-220 to replace my old Tecsun analog R-909 as the kitchen's FM radio, but not as a shortwave receiver. The R-909 has a harsh speaker sound and isn't really good even on FM.
On shortwave, the 25m and 31m bands are my go-to bands especially at night and they are crowded with international broadcasters. With my XHDATA D-219, I can easily distinguish both bands: Select SW4 for 31 meters and SW5 for 25 meters. Not only that, the frequency markings are spaced far apart which makes tuning to a particular station much easier.
The D-220 crams popular shortwave broadcast bands from 49 to 13 meters in one single range. There's no way for me to find where 9600 kHz and 11660 kHz are on that dial without having to rotate the tuning wheel as slowly as I could tolerate. 😐
I understand that from XHDATA's perspective the D-220 is a basic FM/AM radio with a shortwave band mode added as a freebie, but if the company is highlighting it as a shortwave radio first, their marketing folks need to be replaced. 😀

Hello, Tom, as I just ordered the black version of the XHDATA D-220! This radio is rather sensitive in my opinion. Thanks for your video. P.S. I believe that the XHDATA D-220 is much improved over FM Bleedover & Overload compared to the XHDATA D-219?

I've had no trouble with shortwave on my D-220, especially with the stronger stations such as RNZ, REE, VOT, Ifrikya FM, etc. -- all on the built-in whip.

@@hamrad88 Yeah, conditions have been so variable lately, it's worth another try. I got up early this morning, couldn't sleep, it was 1030Z (5:30 AM local). I grabbed my DX-286 and RNZ was booming in here on the whip, inside our aluminum and glass sunroom. Could have picked it up on a paperclip, I think. 😁 I connected an outside wire and listened for about an hour. I tried my R-1000 but I think the DX-286 sounded better. I guess that's what 45 years of tech progress will do for you! Here, from a few days ago, are the D-219 and D-220 receiving REE on 17855, built-in whips, and both performing equally well: ruclips.net/video/MCagmAtc6fw/видео.htmlsi=-sMLQ-kgIdn-DmUt
