It was and is still seen as a moral failing and often results in contestants getting targeted and maligned. It's especially flagrant in season 5 when Gordon would not only constantly lean on Robert about his weight, but went out of his way to attack Benjamin for being slightly overweight. Meanwhile Gordon, at points, has been and probably is about that fat these days.

I have a Raj was better than portrayed on HK. I saw an interview with a now grown up Sabrina who visited LA and met up with Raj. She described Raj as a people's chef. She said he was well liked, respected, and wel connected. Being on a team with Russell and Trev (a man who wished a heart attack and death on Raj which people never when Trev got karma from Scotley) few people could deal with those jerks on season 8.

(It wouldn't surprise me if he really meant I've got nothing positive to take away from this competition, this whole thing has been a complete waste of my time)

Raj, to me, comes off as a guy who can clearly cook, but is probably at his best when he's able to work by himself, or in a very familiar environment. He's probably a little neuro-divergent to add to things. Thing is, i can personally relate...to an extent. I'm the type of person who thrives best when I'm not surrounded by people and time limitations. I'm do my best when i can work solo, or with a smaller group of people. Especially people I'm already familiar with. I can operate under pressure when needed, but it's not my favorite thing to do, and i tend to withdraw somewhat when placed in those situations. I have to mentally adjust myself. Now that said, Raj was definitely over the top with it. Some of that was probably because of the cameras and the show, but i really do think he probably has a few issues beyond just being eccentric. It's nice to know that he's thriving after the show, and obviously in a better position that suits him.

Honestly, Raj wasn't the worst chef that season or the show in general. He might not have been suited to a competition setting, but based on how the whole season played out, he was better than some of the chefs that outlasted him. He might not have been the best, but he wasn't the worst. Plus, he had a pretty good attitude, and he was unapologetically himself. He should have lasted a couple more episodes, even if Ramsey had already decided he wasn't going to pick him as the winner.
