Many people don't know that Late Legendary Utpal Dutta was a gem in English literature.
I saw The Last Lear a couple weeks ago, and it reminded me of Utpal Dutta's role of Michael Modhusudan Dutta. Utpal Dutta was also a great theatre artist.
The cine-goers who mind him,obviously know from the day he did the voice-over for Othello in "Saptapawdee".

In the movie Saptapadi (1961), there was a particular scene involving a certain selected part of "Othello" by William Shakespeare. There, Utpal Dutta had read the portion in which Othello is killing Desdemona where Othello was played by the Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Mahanayika Suchitra Sen as Desdemona. My dad Nityananda Datta was assoc director w Satyajit Ray from 1958 1971 . He directed baksho Badal. Then he worked w Hrishikesh Mukherjee

Aagantuk is probably the most important and relevant film made by Ray; not necessarily the most enjoyable or the best in technical terms, this film has its heart in the right place....asking the most relevant questions and answering them in the simplest way possible.

He told that sentence with such conviction and sincerity, that I am very sure he believed it in reality too. Though I know what kind of a marvel he was in his acting, in his craft.

Never easy to make closer of 02 great talents. Satyajit Ray made it. Jalsaghar with Chhabi Biswas, Paraspaathar with Tulsi Chakraborty and Agantuk with Utpal Dutta. Relationship was so good and easier in those days than today.

আজ একটা কথা আপনাকে বলতে সত্যিই ইচ্ছে করছে -- এই সিনেমাটি আমার মতে আমার দেখা শ্রেষ্ঠতম ছবি গুলোর মধ্যে অনন্য একটি; যার একটি অংশে আড্ডা সংক্রান্ত একটি প্রসঙ্গ আছে যেখানে Gymnasium প্রসঙ্গ এসেছে, --- আমার তেমন একটি পরিমন্ডল গঠনের স্বপ্ন, আপনার প্রচেষ্টা আমাকে অনেকটা আশ্বাস দিচ্ছে যে তা হয়তো পূরণ হওয়া সম্ভব ৷ কারণ আপনার নিষ্ঠা গড্ডলিকা প্রবাহে গা না ভাসানোর -- যা আমারও ৷ আপনার সার্বিক সুস্থতা কামনা করি ৷
Having a grand feast and keeping the taste buds intact by not tampering it with anything for sometime is reminiscent of watching such a beautiful piece art.....such a pity that the outside audience gave him such adulation and love which he couldn't enjoy from his fellow countrymen.... especially Bollywood....maybe his style of cinema was much ahead of its time for our audience...feels so wonderful when stalwarts like Akira Kurosawa, Abbas Kiarostami or Martin Scorsese speak about Ray's filmmaking and the influence it had on them.....the sad part is that Bengali cinema should have explored much richer pastures with influence of such master's ( Mrinal Sen, Rithik Ghatak included) but movie makers decided to go Bollywood way and have become a very poor cousin of them..
Grt film,grt direction,grt acting!what a fantastic and intellectual story by Mr . Ray.Unbeatable at any time.

Actially most people all over our Country did not know how much Utpal Dutt Sir had been talented,educated, multifaceted!Most people over our Country ,except North East ,West Bengal ,did not know that he had Writen,scripted fantastic Dramas,acted in ,and he scripted, played excellent roles in all time - great Shakespeare's many English Dramas.Other than Bengali Films, in Hindi Films also he had left a different typed impression and signature by his different typed, different styled superb excellent acting abilities

What a versatile actor - he actually appeared in Amitabh Bachchan's debut Saat Hindustani and many other movies with him. He played positive and negative character roles, as well as a good comedy actor. Here he looked he lost weight and his voice changed. He was probably ill.
