  • Hey all, that was a treat! Not at all what I was expecting, but in a good way.
I really enjoyed and appreciated the energy of not only the performers, but the audience, as well. I have never seen a crowd that large that are also so engaged in the performance. Props to BabyMetal for an excellent performance and the ability to get everyone to participate! Rock on ladies!

Excellent reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
It was the last encore of the concert. Just imagine 90+ minutes of show, entirely performed with this level of energy. It's just epic. And this was the perfect closer.
For this music video, they decided to keep the actual live audio (which is great!), just cutting out the majority of the "We are?? BABYMETAL" extensive outro :)
SU-METAL still remembers this performance and specially the part they walked across the bridge with the crowd singing along as one of her favorite moments on stage. She also made this song her personal anthem.
    Until next time!

Asked about his appreciation for the Japanese pop metal act BABYMETAL, Rob Zombie said: "I saw them the other day for the first time. I mean, I'd seen videos and stuff, but I saw them live for the first time the other day, and I just loved it; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I mean, it was just like… Leave it to the Japanese to find a way to make fucking death metal cute. But it was awesome. And the crowd… The crowd was going fucking apeshit. The amount of crowdsurfing and stage diving and just complete mayhem, which made it even funnier, 'cause it's three cute little girls doing fucking karate on stage and shit, and these guys [that are backing them] are dressed like ghosts, all in white. It's the most bizarre fucking thing. It's totally worth watching; it's so good."

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. Personally I can't think of anything else I'd rather watch or listen to ... and I've been listening to all sorts since the late 60s. Don't try to talk yourself out of enjoying it for what it is - some of the very best entertainment of any kind that you can find.
BABYMETAL established right from their very first songs that no, you won't be able to put them neatly into just one box, you can't pigeonhole them as just doing one or two types of music. They will do it all, whatever genre, whatever style they feel like doing ... and sometimes they will be doing them all in one song.
This was at Saitama Super Arena in January 2015. Su-metal (lead vocalist) was just 17, Yuimetal and Moametal still only 15 and that was a crowd of over 20,000 people completely under their control.
Getting the crowd involved is what they do and there is nobody better at doing that than BABYMETAL.
The song is about forging your own road, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from the British power metal band DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song and played on the recording for the studio album version.
BABYMETAL formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a JPop Idol group. The separated from that group in 2013 to become an independent band in their own right. They are Su-metal (now 24) and Moametal (she will be 23 in July) - the third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues and had not fully recovered so was still unable to perform, so she announced she would be leaving the band and hoped to follow her own long held dreams.
From the start of the 2019 tour Su and Moa were supported by three dancers (the Avengers) who took turns to dance in the third spot (they do not have any vocals so far). They are Kano, Riho and Momoko.
With Yui and Moa (or more recently Moa and, other than the vocals, the chosen Avenger) what you will see them doing most is backing vocals and harmonies and dancing .... but their choreo serves at least two real purposes (it isn't just dance as you may know it from western pop acts where it is all largely standard and used to fill the stage or to give you some half naked girls (or boys) to look at the take you mind off bland music).
BABYMETAL's choreo serves to help with interpreting the lyrics or the meaning of songs, but mainly it is designed to get the crowd involved, to let them know they can jump, pump their fists, shout or chant. In Japan it is known as "ai no te", so Yui and Moa are in charge of hyping the crowd, getting them involved and feeling that they are part of the performance, not just observers.
Yui and Moa did have their own songs they would sing as a duo (known as Black BABYMETAL) while Su got a break back stage about half way through the shows - just as Su has solo songs she would perform alone while Yui and Moa got a rest.
Their backing band, the Kami Band, were phased in gradually from October 2012 playing festivals and encores in some shows. They became the full time backing band early in 2014. If the musicians in a video are wearing skeleton suits they were miming the instruments to a backing track - they were called 'Babybones' and were there for show (no pretence was made otherwise, everybody knew what they were doing). The Kami Band are the ones in traditional white burial robes and white corpse face paint (more recently in black robes and now wearing masks ... nobody likes the masks).
The Kami Band are among Japan's very best session musicians and can play anything. For the 2019 and 2020 US and European tours the Kami Band of the west (American musicians from Galactic Empire on guitars and bass, Anthony Barone on drums) were introduced.
They will continue to surprise you - about 50 songs so far and every one you listen to will be different to the last ... and nearly all of them will be stuck in your head for days. They have songs in virtually every metal genre, but they will mix or blend in so many different styles and genres with the metal - usually when you least expect it. Some are straight, hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between ... they are unpredictable and they never get boring.

I want to be genuine and my reactions not looked liked it was forced, I wanted it to be natural. Not only did I like BabyMetal; I loved them! I'm definitely looking forward to doing more RVs. I had a blast!

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 2 года назад +10

@@FilAmConnections I can understand the hesitation. If you hadn't liked it, as long as you didn't just rubbish them and explained why it wasn't for you nobody would have had a problem with you - many would have probably suggested different songs that may have appealed to you more (that has happened many times in the past with people who hated the first song they heard and became big fans after two or three different ones).
That is academic now of course, which is great. I'm looking forward to seeing what songs you do next ... maybe leave 'Gimme Chocolate' until you're more familiar with them - or if you do want to do that one use any live version and not the official video.

Welcome to the Foxhole .Nice reaction. And as you said it's not your typical metal. that seems to be the thing with people that put them down. they think to be metal you need to have a certain sound and or look and call them a "gimmick". Do Gimmicks sell out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people)? Go Gimmicks perform on the "Main" stage at Sonisphere?. This show was in front of 20,000 BabyMetal fans. The upload date was 2015 (not sure when the actual show was) so the lead singer was all of 17 years old, the two other performers were 15/16. The thing that is unique about BabyMetal is that their songs cover so many genres. Su has beautiful ballads, some songs are really poppie, one sounds like an Irish jig, another sounds like it could be in a Bollywood movie. The thing is you just have to open your ears and accept them for who they are. BabyMetal I believed debuted in 2010 so they have been together for 12 years now. I hope you continue your journey. just a note, live is always better than M/Vs. If you continue to go forward I might suggest Karate or Headbanger for your next selection.

Over the years watching reactions to _Babymetal,_ you can clearly see all kinds of different personalities of people, and also according to which song they react to.
I can imagine a completely different experience watching _Syncopation, Yava, No Rain No Rainbow, Akatsuki, Tales of the Destinies, Awadama Fever, From Dusk Till Dawn, iine,_ or let alone _Death_ as a *very* first song, which *ALL OF THEM* would make a completely different experience _from each other_ as this one here.
And all those songs are very rarely put up first, 5-6 others, always, and it's fine, but that's the beauty of *_Babymetal_* for those who _truly_ choose to experience the mind blowing differences.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。BABYMETAL performed 3 times in your state, California, during their 2019 US tour : San Francisco, Inglewood (at the Forum with 17,500 audiences) and Sacramento. BM was scheduled to perform in your homeland, the Philippines, at Pulp Summer Slam 2020 on May 16 in Manila, but that was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID.
Their activities have been worldwide since 2014. In the latest world tours from June 2019 through March 2020 (prior to COVID), they performed live 20 times in USA (in 18 states), 19 in EU/UK/Russia (11 countries) and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan.
In your video, Su shouted some words 09:39 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She shouted it rarely since then. Last year (2021), on the final day (April 15) of 10 BABYMETAL BUDOKAN concerts, Su shouted the same words in the end-all of the show. She did it smilingly with matured, mild and friendly voice. It meant, I believe, "come on guys!" The audience smiled her back. I was there at the venue ヽ(^o^)丿

Nice reaction. And welcome to the foxhole. Babymetal has a great track record for fantastic live performances. A big part of it is that energy level and the respect they show the audience. They always try to do their best no matter how big or small the audience. In return crowds give the energy back to them. Audience participation is a requirement at a Babymetal concert. That's why at the end of the song Su shouted, "We are" and Yui and Moa lead the audience with "Babymetal". They're not just talking about themselves but everyone there. This is why the fans of Babymetal are known as the One. As in One with the Band. Babymetal feel it takes everybody to make their performances what they are. And its why many people say Babymetal live is the best Babymetal. Enjoy the ride through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

I get what you said about the feeling but do yourself a favor and don't struggle so much, don't fight it, just feel it, BabyMetal probably had that look at the beginning but by this time they transcend many prejudice and earn the respect and support of many metal gods and rock legends artists, and that's why they reached the place very well deserved.
And pretty much 90% of their songs is all about fun and making you have the best time of your life.
_Road Of Resistance_ is a power/speed metal song, is one of their most epic anthem and got the guitar arrangements made by Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce. Is full of positive message to carry on your own path without looking back.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute), mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms, they are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist.
    *MoaMetal* scream and dance.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
This was part of the Trilogy Of 2015, live at New Year Fox Festival - Saitama Super Arena, by this time their fame was already high due to viral success on YT of Gimme Chocolate! MV, people from all over the world attended this live concert in Japan.
The Kami Band here are glorious set of elite musicians whom were send to help with the metal sound, they rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (specially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, sadly he passed away in 2018. R.I.P.
    - Takayoshi Ohmura, god of guitar, he's Míkio's pupil and a prodigy child, you'll see his recognizable pink guitar.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP.
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene.
My recommendation is whatever you like to hear, but I highly recommend you to stick with 1st and 2nd album a couple of more songs before jumping to 3rd album.
Songs like "Headbanger!!, Megitsune, Karate, Catch Me If You Can, YAVA!, Rondo Of Nightmare and Onedari Daisakusen" among many others are a must. But then again you'll always be surprised with every new song . I'll leave another recommendation on my next comment if YT let me do it.
    See you next time! 🦊🤘

@@FilAmConnections Sure thing. I was trying to post my recommendation but again YT don't like when I mention about "Babymetal Reactor Resource"
In any case, just try to avoid live compilations at all cost, you have full original clips safe to react like those previous to 2015, like Legend 1997 or some of Budokan 2014, also festivals like Download are safe, if you wanna go on risky versions like official just be careful and put some opacity or translucent effect just in case, it might seem safe like the way you did but there are reports of reactors getting strikes after certain time, hopefully you won't have that problem.

@@FilAmConnections As I mentioned in another post, there's a lot of videos on RUclips you can react to without using any censoring. However, there's videos such as this one that fans feel are a total must-watch and require these methods. But luckily it's easy to do.
Then there's BABYMETAL Reactor Resource created by a very dedicated fan. In the 'Future Plans' video info box are links to a spreadsheet with instructions and links to many great videos not found on RUclips that you can react to, but will need watermark. Thankfully, there's also a link to three choices of logo watermarks, with the opacity already pre-adjusted for you to download, ready to use. I recommend using the gray one as it's the least distracting.
So just to be clear, watch the non-watermarked video as you normally would for any reaction and afterwards in your editing, place the logo over the embedded video and upload.

It's amazing to see that Su (12 years old), Yui (10 years old) and Moa (10 years old) were already performing concerts on the main stages in Japan. At her age, I needed parental permission for everything and I barely left the house. At that age, I didn't even know what rock was. In a short time, they occupied the biggest Japan national stages . They sing and dance with seriousness and professionalism (and fun!). Then they traveled to several countries in Europe and Asia, with victorious tours. They braved thrash metal festival crowds with courage. The dedication, innocence and seriousness with which they performed won the hearts of headbangers. Some close-minded people say that Babymetal is just a commercial project, but whoever is on stage with thousands of headbangers is this trio. They make everyone shake their heads, admire with passion and respect musically. Everyone has fun. There are always lyrics of support and hope. After more than a decade they continue to impress us. I love #Babymetal is a great school of youth and hope, through music, dance, art. #Babymetal #SuTheQueen #YuiForever #MoaTheHappySmile #Kamiband #MikioTheOne #KitsuneGod #WeAreBabymetal!!!!

NIce reaction! BM and the Kami Band are fantastic, particularly in the period between their breakout performance at Sonisphere and Yui leaving. They hit three years of sheer brilliance where the stage presence of the girls and the Kamis and their fantastic talents meshed to produce something amazing. In this concert Moa and Yui are 15 and Su is 17 and I'm always surprised by how they can control a crowd of 20000 fans.
"Road of Resistance" is about fighting and resisting even if you can't see the way ahead and it reminds us that there are things worth fighting for - so it's an appropriate song for the times. It was the song that sold me on BM because I ended it as an emotional wreck. They take you from one pinnacle to another and just keep on going. But for me the real hero of this song is the drummer, Hideki Aoyama, I think this song averages over 200 BPM. I wonder what's the collective number of calories expended by BM and the Kami Band in this performance.
The song has a strong "Dragonforce vibe" because Dragonforce's Li and Totman worked on it and play it on the album, but I like this live Kami Band version more. The concert has a great stage set up and the famous Yui leap over Moa during IDZ.
At the end of the crowd "wows" I love the combination of the insanely fast guitar riff and the dance sequence that ends with the girls standing strongly and outlined by the lights, that's where I really get the chills. It shows how well the Babymetal team works to bring together music, singing, dancing and stage and lighting design.
Next, maybe a Su solo like "Akatsuki - Budokan Black Night" or "Rondo of Nightmare" from the same concert., or "Headbanger Legend 1997" or, if you are adventurous, "Tales of the Destinies".

Great reaction! This feeling of confusion is not unusual. It often takes about three songs to fully recognize and admit to the awesomeness of this band and their new sound and visuals. While this performance certainly stands out even among BABYMETAL performances, if you enjoy crowd participation, you have come to the right place.
To an „ordinary“ Metal fan, their music gets more unusual than this particular song, though. Much of their catalogue is more playful and has more non-Metal elements than this one, I‘d say. That‘s not a negative thing at all, though, their fusion of genres is always interesting and entertaining.
I recommend checking out „Headbanger“ from the „Legend 1997“ show, if you‘d like to continue this journey.

It such a strange question to ask oneself. Should I like this music? Yet so many have asked themselves that question including me. The answer is YES!! Why not?? Why talk yourself out of it? There are an awful lot of people that clearly love it but manage to talk themselves out of it and it's kind of sad. Babymetal can never be put into any category. You will know what I mean as you hear more songs. They're like an adventure. You never know what you will see or hear with every song. The only thing predictable about them is that they are unpredictable.
Babymetal reaction videos are blocked quite frequently, especially Road of Resistance, so don't be too surprised if it gets the ax eventually. Great reaction.
If you wish to continue exploring BabyMetal watching at least one of the song/performance compilations put together by fan KuroKiitsuneSama is a good way to get introduced to the powerful stage presence these girls possess, as well as, the unique crowd experience that is a LIVE BabyMetal performance. (Megitsune LIVE and BxMxC LIVE compilations by KuroKiitsuneSama are great examples) Yes they are songs compiled from a number of concerts (therefore you will sometimes notice different stages and different attire for the girls and the Kami Band) but it is done seamlessly and the audio/visual quality is always excellent.
Also you have less chance of your reaction being BLOCKED. (Some will suggest the BabyMetal Reactor Resource Channel and it is a good source but your viewers will have a large watermark covering the performance) Nothing is fool proof but the KuroKiitsuneSama videos normally can be viewed safely without visual impairment for your audience.
There are songs where the single LIVE performance is necessary (in my opinion) because they are iconic songs performed at important locations and at defining points in the evolution of BabyMetal such as “Karate LIVE” at 2016 Download Festival in the UK, “ijame dame zettai LIVE” at 2014 Sonisphere in the UK. Also the Sonisphere and Download performances from above can be viewed safely due to a separate copyright status.
Otherwise, I suggest you “take with a grain of salt” the opinion of the compilation video haters who think it is all about “their” perception of what a pure reaction should be and that anything coming from more than a single concert is garbage.
Should you relay solely on compilation videos? Of course not! However, if done well (and his are done very well) they can be an excellent experience and shows that these girls and their band go full out for their fans everywhere and everytime (just watch their facial expressions and attention to detail). For me it is about honoring the girls and if a compilation video can excite a reactor about BabyMetal (and I have seen this happen) then it is all good.
My opinion. Your choice. Good luck.

also, defying expectations is the most metal thing imaginable. that's the problem with modern metal, no one is doing anything interesting it's all water-downed versions of stuff we got 30-40 years ago. So yeah, BABYMETAL is the best that's ever done it

If by some chance you get copyright strikes (hope not!), you may have to do like a lot of others and make the video translucent or have words or something over the picture... not sure how they do that but I've seen many other reacting videos doing this. That said, I will say that this is the best live performance video of all so you sort of started at the peak. I'll probably get tomatoes thrown at me but I think two of their "official" music video versions are better than the live, just because of the pure artistry and the quality of the audio.

Well, you're in it now! Your first full dose of Babymetal was a good one: this version of "Road of Resistance" is arguably their best example of TOTAL crowd control. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing Babymetal - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV (released in 2012!) "Doki Doki Morning" ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) then match it with the live version ( ruclips.net/video/5w8YN8AmHrg/видео.html ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs). In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. You'll find good songs and ones that aren't so good, you'll find triumph (Sonisphere 2014) and tragedy (the departure of Yuimetal in 2018 and the unfortunate death of Mikio Fujioka, guitarist of the Babymetal backing "Kami Band"), you'll find Black Babymetal, and you'll find that although Babymetal started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. They have only a bit over fifty songs and you're sure to find them all most entertaining.
I would also suggest that you steer clear of compilation videos. Compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. Watching a Babymetal compilation video is like eating prime rib after somebody else chewed it.
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole!

@@FilAmConnections Argh, my original message to you is not showing up so I'll have to break it up into separate posts.
Strikes are rare but they do happen. Usually it's because someone tried to upload a stream or a reaction to an entire concert or something like that. Blocks are more likely but we will try to guide you to the performances that are safe to react to. There are plenty on RUclips, you just need to know which. I've linked a couple in a separate post.
There are also those on RUclips that get you video blocked, but as worrakcalb82 says, it's as easy as placing a semi-transparent pic over the embedded video, AFTER you react to it and before you upload to RUclips. It's just that easy, especially for those videos that he mentioned. You can use any pic but most people use the BABYMETAL logo and adjust the opacity to about 50-60%. Alternatively you can adjust the opacity of the embedded video itself, I've seen people do that successfully as well though I think the watermark is more tried and true.
If this Road of Resistance reaction gets taken down, just apply either method and re-upload, with a note in the title or Info box or pinned message stating this is a re-upload due to block and we will totally watch again!
