The arcade scene in the Robocop 2 game is inspired by the scene in the movie where RoboCop fights in an arcade full of Data East game cabinets (one of them is a Sly Spy cabinet but it runs Bad Dudes). One of my favorite scenes in the movie. In the Japanese version there is an intro stage where it retells the end of the first Robocop movie.
Yeah, the first one is definitely not a kid's movie. I mean, none of them really are, but the first one is like one step away from an exploitation film. What's hilarious is the movie itself even lampoons how marketing can make things more palatable to children, with Robocop being intentionally designed even in-universe to make a cool action figure. And then... Well, he actually *does* make a cool action figure, so life imitated art... There was a really weird trend around the late 80s/early 90s to make toys/cartoons/etc. out of stuff that was super not child friendly. Like, how the hell did Toxic Crusader and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes get freaking Saturday morning cartoons? Then there was that Tales from the Crypt one, too!
@@UltimateCarl funny thing about all those properties is that they weren't intended as products for children. We 80s/90s kids just happened to love them and they just released toys and cartoons later
@@UltimateCarl funny you should mention Attack of the killer tomatoes. I use to love the cartoon and watched the movies because of it. Starting with the sequel. Sure made it damn awkward watching it in front of my mum when Kim Catrell starts asking some guy for sex.
Yeah I rewatched all 3 robocop films recently. The 1st time I saw cain his movements were so unnatural I got super sick. Really, I loved the satire and commercials and the I'd buy that for a dollar and dead or alive you're coming with me, but outside of that, I wouldnt rewatch it. Lol on R movies getting g cartoons. Totally watched killer tomatoes and toxic crusaders, etc. I read about the movies and was like how did they do this. I'm a grown man and those are too much for me.
Oh, man, your poster frame for this video gave me a serious flashback! I had the Robocop II poster in my room my entire childhood- it felt like you took a snapshot of my bedroom!!! Good review!
Maybe I need to watch RoboCop 2 again, but I don't remember RC constantly walking around with his arm up like he was about to start a ballroom dance routine
All I remember about this cabinet, is that it was a good value. I remember my brother and I being able to beat this on only a handful of credits because the concept of a beat em up where you have an OP gun was pretty easy.
2 things. It's great that you're reviewing arcade games that few know about. It really makes your channel unique among RUclips. Also thanks for adding more humor. The added jokes are good.
Shay I was listening to a podcast that was trying to decide who was the best standup, and Dice was one name to come up, so he’s a little fresh on my mind.
So weird I've been talking about robocop for about a week now, it's been a running joke between my kids, then this pops up, Last week the same thing happened with gijoe, the algorithm is definitely real!👍
My work week is Sunday through Thursday so it's awesome that I get to start every weekend with a SNESdrunk video. It really sets a good tone for the weekend
Back from the days when bad movies were oh so good, what I wouldn't do to spend a day back when Robocop was released. I miss those days. Anyhow, The first Robocop arcade game is really fun and really challenging. I'll give this one a proper go.
Wowza, Robocop is looking a bit plump and chunky in this sequel! I really liked the way he looked in the original, and was hoping they would style him the same way in this one. Oh well still looks kinda fun, thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it's a really fun game. I loved it when I found it because I was expecting something like Alien Vs Predator from CPS and it's even better! Btw, just a small help from my side - Joaquim de Almeida isn't Spanish, it's Portuguese :p You pronounce his name as something like Ju-a-kii the All-may-da (The quim isn't exactly kii but it's close to that, I don't know how to explain it, it's a semi long i that is also wide open. Sometimes I hate my language). Good video nonetheless! Really love to watch SNES Drunk
First and foremost, cool review. I never knew about this one so I'll check it out. Re: Robocop 2, the movie. I think it's a very good sequel. I agree that it's nowhere near the masterpiece that was Robocop 1; that much is true. However, it does have more action, an incredible & scary-looking Cain and many great scenes that compliment the original. I've heard many times that this sequel shits all over Murphy as a character but I disagree. I could go on and on but I'll limit myself to the black comedy scene of OCP trying and failing to replicate Robocop by using other police candidates. The fact that most of them can't deal with the fact that their ego is no longer encapsulated in a human body and decide to kill themselves or go nuts only makes Murphy appear more stoic & heroic since his desire to be a cop and an avatar of justice is what keeps him going no matter if he has a body or not.
Interesting to see coverage of this game specifically because Jeremy Parish just had a Gameboy Works on the GBA Ocean RoboCop game. Pretty cool to see the star align like this.
I'd like to defend the Robocop 2 movie. While the FIRST movie was somewhat of an over the top satire of action movies at the time, the media and family groups at the time wanted a more family friendly Robocop. Therefore the second movie was a satirical response to that by making Murphy more "Family freindly" so to speak. It's actually kinda brilliant when you watch it with that in mind.
Never knew there was an arcade sequel!!! Wondering if the second player is a Robocop clone( a la Superman arcade) Looks fun to at least give it a whirl. Thanks for your review!!
I love these old Data East games, they were usually really cool. Not as polished as many arcade games of the bigger names but still, they have this unique charme to them. And mostly awesome music!
This definitely falls into the category of the many many arcade machines I never saw in the wild ever or heard of even existing for that matter. of course much like many games based on mediocre movies it was an okay game it's been completely buried by time.
I’m Portuguese and it never registered to me that you mispronounced Joaquim De Almeida. I guess I just figured a non speaker would use an Americanized version of joaquim . I think you did great. I had more of a laugh on pulling out such a deep cut. “Somebody get me an outside line!”
I just realized that Robocop 2 was directed by Irvin Kershner, the same guy who directed The Empire Strikes Back. Also, after watching the Robocop 2 trailer, I realized that it's been so long since I've seen it that I completely forgot everything that happened in that movie.
I really wish you would have shown some two player action. Seeing two Robocops at the same time shooting everything in sight is pretty cool to watch, even if it doesn't make logical sense. In fact, why didn't more beat em ups let you play as two of the same character? Fighting games did it all the time. Imagine playing as two Haggars, three Predators, four Homers, six Wolverines.
Thanks for saying Zed x Spectrum and not Zee x Spectrum. It gladdens this old Englishmen's heart to hear a American pronounce it the UK way. Even though we just mostly call it the speccy .
It's so weird you out this out. All I've been watching is robocop reviews, bts, and interviews. Then this comes out. I was like oh this has to be an older review becasue of my algarythem but nope. You put out a brand new video. Was this idea in a seo vault? :) great stuff! It's like this movie is having a serious second coming. I'd love a continuation of part three to a rated R version someday. I just saw a deep fake of Arnold swartzenagger as robocop. This is so weird :) great video. I'm a Huge fan.
could you do an episode on SNES pick up and play games ...ie if you were to create an arcade machine of only SNES games which games would you put on it?
Never remembered this from back in the day, which is surprising. But I discovered it a few days ago on the pandora saga console, and I've enjoyed playing it. Looks and plays fantastically well immho. And cain looks awesome.
As soon as I heard (03:27) "and chock-full of the arcade ridiculousness you're used to seeing in games made back then", I thought of the Simpsons clip parodying arcade games of the time. Spot-on :) The games of that time were truly ridiculous! simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Video_games_in_the_Simpsons

A major chord in the intro! I liked it. You're a couple of intros away from just doing an A Capella rendition of SNES music!
What if he's been sneaking it in across multiple episodes already?
It was beautiful 😍
Play the Japanese version, it has more levels, including a new opening level that's is the end of the first Robocop.
"I got an army of Andrew Dice Clays chucking arcade cabinets at me."
No greater sentence was ever spoken.
😂👍
I'm over here now
I'd buy that for a dollar!

OFFICER DUFFY!!! HAVE A SEAT!
How is playing these? is it on an emulator? or is available to purchase on something like the PS store?
i began rewatching Robocop recently and wow. never realized it was so 'dark'. as a kid I always thought it was a fun action oriented family movie lol

UltimateCarl the original RoboCop was very much a satire. It’s been forever since I’ve seen the second one so I don’t how it’s meant to be taken.

Oh, man, your poster frame for this video gave me a serious flashback! I had the Robocop II poster in my room my entire childhood- it felt like you took a snapshot of my bedroom!!! Good review!
"Hickory dickory doc, I threw an arcade machine at RoboCop! HEY!!" - Andrew Dice Clay probably.
I had NO idea this game existed! 🤯
Same here, I had robocop vs terminator on the mega drive. Didn't know there were other robocop games.
@@jessop- if u collect, the NES RoboCop is usually really cheap and not hard to beat quickly 🧙♂️
I literally just watched Robocop 2 last night. It's so campy I love it.
Quite inferior to the first one, but still far better than the horrendous Robocop 3.
"Kane! How about you and me step outside!"
I like the Hard Rock music by *Babylon A.D.* - _'The Kid Goes Wild'_
Maybe I need to watch RoboCop 2 again, but I don't remember RC constantly walking around with his arm up like he was about to start a ballroom dance routine
Haha, I loved that pronounciation of Joaquim de Almeida xD
Thanks for being like the cool older brother I never had showing me all these badass games I didn't get to play back in the day

I used to play this in an arcade with my brother. It was one of the few games we could complete with just one credit.
Hey man, been a long time sub and I’ve been loving the content for a long time. Never stop putting out great stuff dude 👍🏻

_"An army of Andrew Dice Clay attacking me"_ I wonder how many young people got that reference.
I had to laugh. I couldn't believe he mentioned him. I haven't heard that name in at least two decades.
Jack and Jill went up a hill
Well he was on Rogan a few years ago, he's still alive. Hasn't aged well though.

Hickory dickory dock.....
Total length of video: 260 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3.5 secs.
1.35% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
finally! someone using math for something important for once.
So at the end of the year are you going to calculate the percentage length for all intros to all videos this year?
Jamarcus Russell - Race Drivin’ should skew the average somewhat.

Oooo, I like the harmony in that intro!
getting too good at the snes drunk intro... gonna have to go with "The Drunken SNES Quartet"
That music track for the first stage is beyond catchy.

Agree though. As good as cain looks, it does drag on. Fighting him four times at the end was tiring lol. I almost took a break.
Your references are spot on as always!
Snes Drunk + emulators saved me from death from boredom in these lock down months
I'll always have a soft spot for RoboCop 2 on NES. One of the first games I played on the system back then.

Fun fact: the kid drug dealer voiced Little Foot in Land Before Time.
"Isn't the moon wonderful tonight!"
Man data East used to be good back in the day. I played this is a kid in the arcade ate a lot of my quarters great video snes drunk as always
I just watched both Robocop 1 and 2 last night, and this explains why the arcade in 2 is full of Data East arcade cabinets.
RoboCop 2 movie is a 10/10 masterpiece there is a reason people are always talking about it
😃Totally awesome dudes 👍🏻
This looks like a re-skinned version of the "Aliens" arcade game.
Good morning, neighbor!
The art and set pieces look like it really nailed the look of the film.
Thanks for the recommendation on both games actually. They do look cool and I grew up during the era and love Robocop so I have no idea why I never tried either of his arcade games.
Tried them both, liked them both but my god does Robocop 2 have some AWFUL music.
Robocop is what america needs 🇺🇸
Instead of Moroncops
Another great episode

Robert cop 2
One more arcade game I haven't heard about previously. Robocop 2 for NES has tricky controls, Robocop himself feels too slippery. At that time it seemed like a good game, I'm not so sure if it's the same nowadays.

My brother and I used to play Lucky and Wild(e?) a lot. One of us would drive; the other would use both guns.
The first Robocop for NES was pretty good.
