Its not underrated... We all love it and the crowd loves it. It was not a radio single... but it rocks and it is one of 100 reasons the Foos in general are underrated. I'm one man that loves all music... esp rock n roll. Dave Grohl and this band the Foo Fighters are ridiculously underrated overall.
I saw them in the early 2000s and my friends and I really wanted them to play this song so we kept yelling during all the lulls "Play Hey Johnny Park!!!" Finally about midway through the concert he looks at us and yells "NO!!!!!"
Dave Grohl was living in the moment He forgot how to play his song for a minute then he figured it out that is what a true rockstar is when they haven't played a certain song for a while and they have to play for a min then they are like "Got it"
To clear things up for you all, Dave Grohl said "What I'm talking about" in the demo version of this song. However, "Am I selling you out?" appeared on the album version and numerous live performances, replacing the other lyric.
i watched this live on stream. Dave obviously forgot the lyrics to the chorus, but this is still awesome :D even if the band hadn't practiced this one in ages.
The lyrics to this song follow a series of different themes, as Grohl noted himself, "Oh, my God, that song's about 15 different things! The only reason why it's called 'Hey, Johnny Park!' is because when I was young, my best friend was this kid who lived across the street from me called Johnny Park and we were like brothers from the age of 5 to 12. I haven't heard from him since I was about 14 years old and I thought if I named a song after him he might call." - Wikipedia :D
Adding this video to my favorites right now! :) "Dude, Those are the shoes man! Those are the ones! What size are those...okay(scoffs) Whatever John Holmes....He goes 12! (Laughs)" This is so great!
YES fucking epic- i'd only just discovered this song thinking they would never play it again, i literally screamed my throat raw when they started- couldnt speak for like 3 days after last day of reading :D i agree fucking legend!
@AstralVoidMusic you couldnt be more accurate that's exactly what happens to me when i listen to this song..it feels like my early days, all fresh, all exciting cant describe it
I remember catching this stream. I guess they knew THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST was a meme at the time cause they completely ignored the live chat request for it the entire show.
@bethereds09 Actually, Johnny Park was a nickname one of Dave's friends gave him when he was a little kid. He lost touch with him and was thinking that if he threw that name into the song title he might be able to get in touch with his old friend. Well, at least according to a commentary he wrote for the songs on The Colour and the Shape
I don't think Dave ever re-connected with his lil buddy from the Ohio years... the venerable Jonny Park. Shame for sure. Maybe the guy died... nobody knows. That is why he titled this song such... hoping his old friend would seek him out.
@musicsuckswithjess ah.... that's weird cause i remember reading another interview where he stated that he stopped doing drugs when he was 20 and that he just drinks whiskey now
This is why you never let your rehearsal stuff out. Lol Most folks don't know that after you record, you nearly always in most cases have to go back and learn the song before going out to support the album. The final arraignment may or may not be what the artist remembers or even in some extreme situations, may not be how you had originally conceived the song to be when you wrote it. A record producer or the company itself often may have final say on how an album ultimately will sound. Regardless, The Foo Fighters are very good at what they do, and may well have been among the best of the 90's - 00's!
@v33sel, I get what you're saying, but Dave is singing both parts of a call and return chorus he recorded separately in the studio. Bit unnecessary to criticize that man ( as I'm sure you know)
anyone have any idea what distortion grohl's using during the intro/chorus? pedals or whatever? its got a nice sound when he's picking the individual notes in the beginning and im looking to get some new pedals at some point
"GOT IT " whata dude
Aside from this epic, epic performance of this song. That’s the best part of the video😂
one of foo fighter underrated song🙁

My favourite.
Beyond the under

I am jealous of you and feel sorry for you at the same time
+msbailey04 As a musician, you never want to hear someone say "hey play this!" because it makes them feel like you don't like the stuff they are doing
+msbailey04 hahaha, what a jerk
+Michael Arredondo lol as a musician you should be glad they paid to see you play!
bullshit bro
This was the most awesome and badass ''got it'' of the human history.
no doubt
"Hold on, I don't know this one yet."
Dave Grohl was living in the moment He forgot how to play his song for a minute then he figured it out that is what a true rockstar is when they haven't played a certain song for a while and they have to play for a min then they are like "Got it"

They may be the most underrated band of all time. Solid innovative trendsetters Some may say I'm crazy but....they've blown by nirvana
I love how raw and garage this sounds! I'd love to hear the whole session.
ruclips.net/video/wDnVla-8Ulo/видео.html there ya go

When they went from Monkey Wrench to this at Reading Festival, my god everyone was going mental! Dave Grohl is such a legend!
He singed it differently. "You'll never know... what I'm talking about".
The original lyrics are "Am I selling you out?"
Surely their best song?
"Stop. I don't know this one" 5 seconds later "Got it" what a boss
I know. I love that they sometimes play this live, but it kills me that they NEVER play "Wind Up" live.
Love this tune
"What I'm talking about" was what he sang in the demo version of this song. Dunno why he did it here.
Maybe he just wanted too, ya know. Just for the hell of it.
Maybe hes SELLING US OUT
Got it
It's not a bad lyric though.
Absolutely brilliant I love the Foo Fighters I will definitely miss Taylor Hawkins so much RIP Taylor.

i watched this live on stream.
Dave obviously forgot the lyrics to the chorus, but this is still awesome :D

:D
Only dave never learns how to play one of his own songs until the day he has to play it and still pulls It off like a boss
I love what Dave said about The Voice - if Bob Dylan sang Blowin' in the Wind today….
He is the only guy that tune, and still manages to have only one dislike! Dave is the man! Thnks google translator
Adding this video to my favorites right now! :) "Dude, Those are the shoes man! Those are the ones! What size are those...okay(scoffs) Whatever John Holmes....He goes 12! (Laughs)" This is so great!

Grohl has to be one of the most charismatic and personable frontmen in rock today
@AstralVoidMusic
you couldnt be more accurate
that's exactly what happens to me when i listen to this song..it feels like my early days, all fresh, all exciting
cant describe it
@WeeBeenie that so awesome! ....laughing hysterically right now!

I remember catching this stream. I guess they knew THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST was a meme at the time cause they completely ignored the live chat request for it the entire show.

Imagine being at a Foo’s concert and DG asks you about your kicks. Damn man, I’d rather have him sign them than Jordan lol.
@bethereds09 Actually, Johnny Park was a nickname one of Dave's friends gave him when he was a little kid. @@kylohepburn yes I know but thanks byway for responding to let me know.
Well... he did write it, ya know :-)
WOW!
only dave grohl can forget his own song, figure it out again and continue to play the badass song!
He said "what I'm talking about" in the demo tape but not on the album version.
'Those are the shoes man.. those are the ones..' :')
In an interview, Dave said that "this song is about 15 different things!", so maybe that's why he changed it.

I don't think Dave ever re-connected with his lil buddy from the Ohio years... the venerable Jonny Park. Shame for sure. Maybe the guy died... nobody knows. That is why he titled this song such... hoping his old friend would seek him out.

Os 2 que clicaram em "não gostei" são asbusrdamente loucos!
The John Holmes joke was hilarious.
@v33sel, I get what you're saying, but Dave is singing both parts of a call and return chorus he recorded separately in the studio. Bit unnecessary to criticize that man ( as I'm sure you know)
where is the rest of that session? I have seen every vid like a year ago, but now I can't find them anymore.
Dave released the Jimmy Page inside of him with this riff.
@WeeBeenie damn forreals!

@mss876 NEVER! They must all be whimsical and lyrical all at once, i demand it!
@TheEric1203 He does.
anyone have any idea what distortion grohl's using during the intro/chorus? pedals or whatever? its got a nice sound when he's picking the individual notes in the beginning and im looking to get some new pedals at some point
