Where was that you stayed in Piraeus?
The global financial crisis of 2007 was something Greece didn't recover from, and 2015 they defaulted on their debt, then the refugee crisis saw people pouring out of Syria and being taken in by the Greeks, I don't know how it stands now but at one time they hosted the largest number of refugees of anyone since WWII, it says a lot about the generosity of the people.

My nephew got married in Santorini, Greece, a few years back. He had a view overlooking the ocean on the sunset 🌇 from his balcony. It's very beautiful. Thanks for sharing. This is one on my bucket list too. ❤

I, like like you Helena, am a wanderer. I’ve always felt there’s got to be more to living than working, taking your occasional holiday and paying bills. I spent some tourist time in Greece many moons ago. I found the Greek people to be very open like you say and hospitable. The beauty I saw, other than the amazing Athenian history, was on the islands. I spent a month on Crete and learned that unlike many of us in the developed world, Greeks work to live, not live to work. I hope you discover the beauty and appreciation as I did so long ago, the Greek people have for experiencing life to it’s fullest as opposed to living a robotic existence based purely on wealth as a goal.

The real estate in this neighbourhood you presented as a Polish communist relic, are actually some of the most expensive. To own a property there, especially on the coastal road, you actually need to have solved most of your financial problems. We're talking of millions of €s. What you 're probably missing is that this is not a tourist area. Piraeus is mainly a Port, and everything in this place, mainly, rotates around this. Piraeus is the 5th largest of the European container port ranking, and it is expected to soon be in the top three.

Thrilled that famous RUclipsr HELENA NISTA visited not only my home town but my neighborhood too !!!! The restaurant you had lunch with your mom is only a few hundrend meters from my apartment and we have visited it with friends and family many times over time!!!! If I had the slightest idea that you would be near there I would have tried to meet both of you and tour you to even better spots like the Castella hill by night. Which offers the absolute best view of Faliro bay ( suburb of Piraeus) all the way up to Athens and a huge part of Athens Riviera. I don't know if you noticed through your stroll from Piraiki to Mikrolimano (or Zeas port) that on the rocky seaside lie the walls that Ancient Athenians build to fortify and thus protect both Athens and it's port from possible invaders by sea also. Of course you are right about the apartment buildings along the seaside. They were build mostly from the 60's up till the end of 80's. Some of them are quite good construction but the majority where made just for land owners acquire some apartments. In other areas of Pireas though things are far better though as rich captains have build exquisite one floor condows to a five or six floor buildings. Also the pandemic had the result that many occupiers fled the city and now the owners are seeking slowly to turn them to Air BNB apartments that's why they are so much neglected.

Yes, it would have taken too long to get to Greece and back by car. And my back has already paid a painful price for driving 2,000 km each way to France 😉
I would definitely take the train again! It's cheaper and very comfortable. Not as convenient as having a car obviously. But it's a different way to explore a new place.
And Italians seem to show off their history much better than Greeks do. I think that Greece has a great potential to be much more interesting and amazing. But it requires work and funds to accomplish this.
And Greeks seem pretty content the way things are 😊

The hotel was really bad with poor service and bad facilities. So I wouldn't recommend it.
