No one can every replace scar symmetry. It's a shame they let the lead singer go. It definitely went downhill from there. Solution 45 is alright, but again, is not as good as scar.

This band pretty much never makes a riff appear only once in the song, that one is part of the main "disco" theme. The riff at 1:35 is played with the keys at 1:00. The songwriting improved heaps on "MyGrain" compared to the previous, it was the dose of ambition this style of music had been lacking. It's like going where Soilwork never did after Natural Born Chaos.
I love all their albums. But everyone in the band shone brightly in their self titled. Tommy's screams, Eve's keyboard, Resistor's and Teemu's guitar solos and rhythms and ofcourse the insane drumming of Locomotive. What I am hoping from this new album is more from Jonas' Bass. With their previous album, they matured and meshed really well.

The feeling that the song "Into the Parallel Universe" got me into was and still is undescribable. MyGrain's new album is good, not the best but a bit dull. The previous one is very well structured and has absolutely no weak songs, I'd say it's the best album as whole I've ever listened to. "Planetary Breathing" is few steps backwards from the "kick-ass melodic style".
I agree. There was a shitload of "groove" (a vague concept at best) in the S/T album that I've not heard before or since. That album was so fucking good that the majority of the rest of myGRAIN's songs strike me like outtakes.
I would have replaced in flames, dark tranquility and possibly arch enemy with Wintersun, edge of sanity, norther, frosttide, the bereaved, solution 45, blinded colony, wolfheart, brymir.
I don't meant it in offensive way, but they have the Gothenburg sound, played and invented for more than a decade, by In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Soilwork... Anyone that's familiar with the scandinavian styles of metal can recognise this! "Pfft"
That's only partly true. If you listen to the original gothenburg sound it's a far cry from a lot of modern melodeath. Finnish bands in particular have their own sound which tends be more toward the Thrash end of the spectrum than the more death inspired Swedes. It's much a faster bpm style and they use keyboards and synths to much better effect to add layers of melody. Compare this to something like Amon Amarth and you can easily notice the difference despite both being classed as melodeath

There are some great songs on the self titled, but overall I liked the first 2 much more. Much more raw and heavy, in my opinion :)
