  • ☀️ Spam is annoying. What's more annoying are all the ways spammers have to get our email addresses in the first place.
    ☀️ How spammers get you
Spammers get email addresses through data breaches, purchased lists, website and social media harvesting, guessing common formats, phishing attempts, public records, and malware. With so many sources available, spam is inevitable. There’s no perfect solution. Just mark it as spam and move on.

Many years ago I performed an experiment. I created 2 new email accounts, one with a 3 random character address, and one with an 8 random character address, both with the same domain name. I did not use them, publish them, or reference them in any way. I just let them sit. After several months I checked them.
The account with the 3 character address had almost a hundred messages in it.
The account with the 8 character address had ZERO messages in it.
This seems to indicate the spammers use random number generators to search for email addresses with low character lengths. So don't use short length email address.

While setting up my AOL account on my very first computer I started getting spam before I even finished setting up my account.

Name.surname at domain should never be an email address format - it is super easy to throw thousands of names against a domain and then spam is reeceived.

When you unsubscribe, if it’s automatically done, ai have no problem but if it asks me to input my email address, I believe they are already supposed to know it. I don’t continue.

Once your email becomes a spam, continue using that to sign up new websites or marketing materials since it is already fallen into spammers

That is where the disposable email accounts come to the scene. Move important mail to a newly created address nd shut the spammed one down.

One can get spam because one *uses* an Amazon account. At least that is what I believe I have been seeing.

This is not the info I need. I need the spammer's physical address, so i they are in range, we can have a 'fireside chat,' as FDR would say.

As others have commented: don't use email. There's no way to be 100% spam free.
