When it was built way back in the mid-1950's, the Teleferico de Caracas was quite the engineering feat of that time. The "teleferico" transported passengers from the city to the top of the mountain, Mt. Avila. Att about the same time, the Humboldt Hotel opened and started welcoming guests. Both the Teleferico de Caracas and the Humboldt Hotel are legacies of the military dictatorship of Gen. Marcos Perez Jimenez.
