Games should implement a major and minor hitbox or something like a gradient. Where the effect drops off at the end of the hitbox and not just taking the full force of an attack from its pinky toe
this game is a weird mix of good and shit hitboxes, somethings are so clean its exhilarating but then you can also get stomped and sent flying while in the air above the monster, looking at you Deviljho... 4U doesnt have the same problem but at the same time you can get hit while behind and off to the side of the monster, without even being close to it, when they run directly away from you
It honestly feels like the developers aren't entirely sure how SA should be played. If you compare it to the other dual mode weapons, DB and CB, it starts to make sense. DB shifts between both Demon and Archdemon mode constantly because one extends the duration of the other (unlike the older titles where you could have infinite Demon mode ignoring the other mode entirely). And then we have CB whose mode shifting is paramount to it's usage. You get phials in sword to expend in axe. And then there's SA. Whose modes have ZERO effect on one another. On top of that, both modes have a power up that also have ZERO effect on the other form. If you have Amped sword and use axe mode your amped is being wasted and vice versa with Power axe. So this leads to the current situation where you are essentially punished for switching for any length of time instead of committing entirely to axe or sword mode. They may as well be different weapons at that point.
If you had the chance DB would always be in demon mode unlike SA where if you had unlimited phials you would still switch either because of movement or axe mode has a better match up. There's never a situation where you would only use archdemon mode. For CB using sword is downtime while you charge axe which was the same for SA before iceborne where you used axe as downtime for sword.
Seriously I miss my 3u and 4u switch axe . The chargeaxe(switch axe) from world and iceborne is really not the switch axe I love or that is good in general. The only thing i like is the switching between the modes.
Switch Axe is two different weapons stuck together; it's mode arent meant to compliment each other, they change completely how you as a player have to fight; Sword is situational for when you want to hit harder, axe is for when you need to be more mobile
It's like they looked at the SA issues individually instead of as a package. They thought, "well we want people to be use Axe mode more" and "Zero Sum isn't used much" and dealt with those two issues instead of looking at the weapon as a whole.
I read the description and really understand your feeling toward SA. I’m no speed runner so the way in which I play and view weapons is impacted differently. I think my favorite part about Iceborne is how much I’m learning about the different ways the game impacts individuals. Especially the differences between casuals and speedrunners.
Bit sad to hear you aren't enjoying SA as much in Iceborne, but it's very understandable. I'm not out here trying to set records, so I have the luxury of playing Mixed Switch Axe and not having to worry about clear times as long as they aren't over 10 minutes. Play what makes you happy, I look forward to seeing it regardless of the weapon~
I would love for the axe mode charge the amped state and have unlimited time in sword mode but feed all potential damage to the amped state. Then have sword mode charge a separate buff for the axe mode (maybe a speed buff) and then the play to focus on balancing the two buffs. Keep axe for high brea, trips and mobility and sword for high damage but encouraging the switching part more
Is it really necessary to re-tenderize everytime the monster gets exhausted? Or can you skip 1 and do dps instead? Nice run! and I hope you still continue to play SA though.
That's something I was messing around actually, you can probably skip every 2nd tenderize and go for a wild morph instead. The problem is if the ai just decides to be slightly wonky and the tenderize wears off, that significantly impacts how easily you get the next trip, which can then ruin the run.
Thank God I'm not the only one who feels that way about SA. I remember watching Im a Giraffe's video on Evade SA and how to smoothly go in between the 2 modes - to me that's what SA was about, but sadly now (at least in speedruns) all I see is ZSD and power axe trip. They get really fast times, don't get me wrong, but the variety is gone... Great run as always ❤️
I mean before this all it was was sword mode spam. It was way more skill-intensive and of course had a lot less ZSD's, but I'd say there is variety now with SA; if not for TA than especially for general play.
Tenant I feel like we just trade one for the other...pre IB is sword spam, IB is Axe and ZSD spam. There's variety in normal play for sure, don't get me wrong, but the majority of the matchups are really bad for Sword mode, plus the fact the trip locking in Axe mode is so effective, makes it less enjoyable for me.
You make it sound so binary but there's still people playing SA in that evasion style, and setting record times on it... ruclips.net/video/owauekhAphQ/видео.html You have options, you can still play it that way. Just because you ZSD on flinch staggers doesn't mean your playstyle as a whole is different.
Axe should charge the Amped state for sword and Amped sword should charge axe, that's the only way this weapon could be used that inherently needs transformation.
When it comes to speedruns, nobody really needs ya to be a record breaker, if you can do a monster fast, it still looks cool. Point is, don't pull your hair out over any monster and have fun. Shid I haven't even slayed Brachy, Furious Rajang, or Fatalis yet because I ain't gonna make myself go crazy over a game. I'll take my time, and enjoy what I can do. Go for the challenges I can overcome.
I’m confused about how did he recovered health when he lands crits hits?? It is the armor skill or armor set?? Or did he ate something before the fight??
1:01 that's a great hitbox we have heeeere

im so glad i wasnt the only one that saw this bs lmao

tasin blueblackdragon and chakwaichan are bullshiting and dont know what they are talking about.
@@AfadDeRazzy69 i don't really understand what you are trying to say

Beautiful run, and I feel you in the description. Do what makes you happy, and we’ll enjoy the gameplay either way.

Nice one man love the way you give SA validity in the speedrun community
Tigrex must be wishing he had Anjanath's arms.
Absolutely amazing. Great job!
This run was so strange, I haven't really watched a TA that uses axe entirely(with good time)
The new axe mode buff makes it easier to flinch monsters and break parts, really good to keep tigrex down
Don’t drop sa 😭
Amazing run as always what monster are u thinking of doing next
I've been trying to optimize gold rathian on cb and I'm currently trying to see how well thunder phial cb does against her.
I am very glad, that it`s a Switch Axe Speedrun, and no CB :)
What does TA stand for 😳?
Good Job ! You are a Monster
Left arm: pulverized
I feel like how the weapon was changed in Rise really remedied a ton of these issues
Nice run, the SA is a difficult weapon for me.
BTW I like your layered armor what do you use I can't find the pieces ?

why the hell havent they done this already? thats a great idea
I'm expecting at least 6 savage axe attack guard points each run when you convert to savage axe CB.
O.O''
Sick dunk

How come his SA have lifesteal?
Health Regen augment on weapon

Oh I hate this speedrunner guy! I came here to post garbage on this comment section. Joking aside amazing run!
It is not Brute Tigrex if it didn't roar more than 20 times in single quest
I’m confused about how did he recovered health when he lands crits hits?? It is the armor skill or armor set?? Or did he ate something before the fight??
Health augment on weapon. It's been a thing since base Mhw.
This bad buy need a lot of buffs to make it feel good to play
copeaxe pog
Ohh SA god
I personally really don't like the charge axe ( switch axe) anymore :( . I want my original main weapon my good old switch axe.
