Important to note with this technology advance - game developers have full, detailed artistic control over DLSS 5's effects to ensure they maintain their game's unique aesthetic. The SDK includes things like intensity, color grading and masking off places where the effect shouldn't be applied. It's not a filter - DLSS 5 inputs the game’s color and motion vectors for each frame into the model, anchoring the output in the source 3D content.

This is great, but the AI is really noticeable in the faces; practically nothing else in the game has changed besides the faces and the lighting on their bodies-other than that, the environments haven't improved.

Also in the first bit of the video you can see the lighting and stuff change on light pole and the stuff in the window and same for the other non rez games you can see the lighting and shadows changed a bit on the clothing and other background stuff

@SlaveNCMCThis is real time and adjustable. Which is a trip. Will it be necessary for every game? No, but the ones going for a realistic aesthetic should definitely use this. Seems to me they hit the upscaling ceiling with 4.5 and decided 5 would be detail oriented. Again, not all games should use it but it’s going to create a fidelity gap like it was from PS1 to PS2.

It will obviously continue to exist, but it will bust because the profitability will not reach the numbers required to justify the insane investment it has received. If I build a nuclear power plant thinking a town will grow to use, at worst, 60% of its output, but then it only grows to use 10% of it then operating costs of the plant will overshadow the money it makes. Yes, it will require less spending on fuel, but the whole infrastructure requires maintenance to keep it working even if its for a fraction of its designed output

People are highly concerned about this because it is placing an official AI tool in place of unique graphics and creativity. People play games that have a specific unique art-style. This is offering a singular filter across all games as an actual global Nvidia tool. And as you can see, the majority of people don't like it.
Back in the day, nobody cared about video-games being "as realistic-looking as possible". Each video-game was unique. This is what people still want, even decades later, and companies still refuse to read the room. I think this goes further than just video-games though.
People are getting major fatigue when it comes to the disconnect between the audience, companies and our entertainment. It's happening with Star Wars, Star Trek, Hollywood, beloved franchises. They refuse to listen and read the room. And they will continue to make financial losses if they continue. Nobody asked for this AI filter shit.

It is not a filter.
When you take a picture of the moon, many modern day photos use AI to change and adjust the settings automatically to make sure the moon is nice and crisp instead of just a bright white ball.
That's what this DLSS 5 does. It recognizes what it's looking like tweaks lighting and reflection maps to closely match what it recognizes. And unless Nvidia is flat out lying, it sounds like it will be customizable so that it can fit in with games in non-realistic art styles as well.
What's more, is that you seem to be pushing your preferences onto other people. I like games with unique art styles, but that doesn't mean I and other people don't like realistic games. If people didn't, they wouldn't buy them.
Some of the footage Nvidia showed off was pretty bad, but some of it also looked incredible which just wouldn't be possible without this tool. I think it needs a lot of work, but I do think this could be the next step in graphics.
Finally, the DLSSlop became canon

Grace face looks like these "Re imagined" AI faces in the 80s style videos.
But it is the exact same face with different lighting applied. No other change. It isn't affecting the 3d models or even the textures, it's only affecting the lighting, as if it were path tracing it, but with AI lighting instead so that it is faster.

And we're literally hitting a wall with transistors we're talking single-digit nanometers, near atomic scale. There's no miraculous generational leap coming from raw silicon anymore. AI rendering isn't a shortcut, it's the only viable path forward. You either embrace it or you're romanticizing a dead end.

When we do hit that plateau with transistors, I'd rather see artists make the best out of limited tools instead of relying on a cut and paste filter. These clips are hand picked, mind you. This is the wrong way to go about it.

AMD already matched Nvidia performance current gen in their architecture they just need to scale up and start making flagship cards.
Next gen AMD flagship is suppose to be a 150 CU monolith that runs faster than an RTX 5090 so I would suggest switching to them.
AMD already makes the best CPU's for gaming they might as well take the GPU crown as well. Plus AMD cards are not having the driver problems RTX cards are having.
