I never paid much attention to these, so I was quite surprised to find out that they still use the oil bath system for these, I thought they'd fully switched to ball bearings!
It's always great to hear more people to show support of the new Originals. Even with the long 4" main bearing shaft and readjusted capacitor values makes it even better than the earlier generations of the overseas Original. The only problem with the speed range is that the low speed is set to a 7.5uf value to low rather than 4.5uf, but that can easily be fixed by swapping 2 wires from position 2 and 3. Otherwise, medium is way better on this than the earlier USA Originals. I'm not too fond of the vent pattern on today's Originals, but it's not new. Had been a seldom seen casting. I prefer the vents on a 2.0 amp Original for example, but it's still a classic either way.
I'm also glad Hunter is keeping the Original alive! But it's hard for me to recommend it to people because of the issues I mentioned between 9:44 and 16:22. The damaged winding issue is borderline unacceptable in my book. I just wish Hunter would better enforce their quality control. I think I've heard of that wire swap trick to achieve a slower low speed, though I haven't tried it myself since I've just been using a wall control with it. Same, I like the older vents more. I find the vents fill the space on the bottom plate a bit better.
Hey there, how are you doing? I just wanted to tell you that I was a kid and I would go down to Walt Disney World and these things would be everywhere you go. They were a lot of them from 1971 beyond these were very popular fans way back in the day I don’t know where else you would find them but if you look hard enough, you might find one somewhere out there I’m sure 0:030:030:030:030:03
I like fans that absolutely haul, so that makes them somewhat more worth the price for me. But if I can find a fan that performs just as well for cheaper, I would definitely get that instead. In Hong Kong, easily my first choice for a newer fan is the SMC industrials. Ridiculously cheap for what you get, performance wise. I heard the capacitors often fail, but that’s usually an easy fix I’d definitely still consider these if I needed powerful fans that were a little more decorative, like for a restaurant or something
For sure! Industrials are usually the best options if you just need pure power. For Originals, I'd say go for a vintage (pre-2002), American-built models. They're better made based on my experience.
Just watched this on RUclips for the second time today. First off, after yesterday of watching a clip of a white Hunter ceiling fan with a face and talking, my first reaction was, "Holy crap, that scary & looks pretty sad, like the ghost of Christmas past ," but I know that it was just computerized, video edited and someone providing the voice. Second, I was just thinking back in my past life, in my early childhood, throwing things at the ceiling fan in the room, I would like to apologize for throwing things at the ceiling fan. I just feel bad and remorseful and stupid for doing so & if I were to "turn back the clock" I would reconsider it. DEFINITELY. The ceiling fan didn't do anything to deserve being neglected or abused for many years. It was just doing it's job of circulating the air, keeping the bugs out, and saving money on heating and cooling costs and not running the heater or air conditioning constantly. I know that now, and I know that it's not trying to "kill me" or "scare me" like the vacuum cleaner, the Nutone exhaust fan and any smoke or fire alarms or any loud noises including car horns, which BTW, sets me off and just downright annoys me, knowing how loud they. Aside from that I guess I should be more careful and more cautious about their existence with ceiling fans or any other fans, desk, floor, box or window fans and just try to keep things away from them & out of there, including my fingers. Anyway, looking forward to the next video & setup of the Christmas decorations, hopefully there will be a second video, after the first video. Thank you and God bless 🙂👍🙏💒☃️🎅❄️⛄️🎄🎄⛄️❄️🎅☃️💒🙏👍🙂.
I can certainly relate to that! I remember tossing stuff into ceiling fans and wall fans lol. Now I definitely do feel bad about it. But sometimes we don’t learn until we grow up. There will certainly be a second Christmas video! The one I posted last week covers the setup process, so the next one should be a tour of the lights and decorations. Also there’ll be a Christmas train layout video too.
Sad that they have cut the quality so much To be honest with you based on the issues you mentioned I feel like if you have the budget for a 6-700 dollar fan I think you would be better off getting a fan like the Big Ass Fan Co Haiku or something like that
I agree, it’s quite unfortunate to see a legendary fan go down such a path. Maybe I was incredibly unlucky with my new Originals, who knows lol. True, I think there would be other factors involved in what fan a person should buy other than just the cost though. Someone who wants modern designs and integrated smart controls would probably go for something like a Haiku, whereas someone looking for a classic look might want an Original. I don’t think the price of the Original is unreasonable, but I would expect the quality to be better. Strictly quality control-wise, I feel like even the budget Hunter builder fans have less defects and inconsistencies than the current Originals.
I love Hunter, the American red original ceiling fans. This is something I don’t see every day Wisconsin and Milwaukee are not stopping grown for ceiling fans. No at all if youare lucky to find one here keep looking. Finding Hunter originals here or finding them like finding a needle in a haystack
I like Hunter products as well. Originals in particular were popular in warmer areas of the US such as Texas, so it’s the easiest to come across them in those regions.
Great fan. Absolutely true that it has a lot of inconsistancy in terms of general built quality and other quality control factors. I feel that Hunter sells this fan at such a high price just to maintain the prestige of this model. Nonetheless nice looking and performing fan.
It sure is an expensive fan, but I noticed that the price of the Original hasn’t changed that much in the past 30-40 years if you take inflation into account. The quality certainly has gone down a bit though, which is unfortunate.
American-made Originals have a rotor that sit in the middle of the stator, very much like a motor found in portable fans. Overseas Originals have a motor design that most other ceiling fans have; where the rotor sits on the outside of the stator. That’s the primary difference between them, other than the location of manufacture of course.
I was about to buy 4 of these fans but after this review I’m very happy to buy another brand. For $650. You don’t expect poor quality but again, it’s made in china
That certainly would’ve been a very expensive purchase! Honestly most Hunter ceiling fans are pretty good; it’s just the Original series that I feel is not a good value anymore.
Great and high quality review! I love how you went into the history and everything! Keep up the good work!
Thanks JayCity!!
Very nice ceiling fan! The Original was definitely one of the best Hunter fans that I’ve seen.
Thanks Matt! I agree.
I never paid much attention to these, so I was quite surprised to find out that they still use the oil bath system for these, I thought they'd fully switched to ball bearings!
Yep! The oil bath system is one of the signature features of the Original. An Original wouldn't be an Original if it didn't have it!

‘91 was when Hunter introduced a 5 blade model for the original. ‘92 was the first year for 4/5 blade flywheels.

Hi, I’m good!
That’s really cool! Disney world sure knows how to pick good reliable fans for their facilities.

As someone with a 2022 Hunter Original, I don't see any issues with mine. It's still the best.
@@casablancahunter1606 that's great to hear!

I NEED ONE IN THIS FINISH! So I can recreate The Montana's BBQ and Bar Fans

Hi, I like the American made originals better than China made Originals so what’s the difference?

When I first saw the originals, they were down at Walt Disney World I wish they had red ones
Pretty good fan! The low on the wall control looks like the low on the American made 3 speed originals.
It sure does!
What is the microphone and camera you're using
Lumix S5II and Rode VideoMicro II.
GE needs to go back making those rigid 5-plastic wing box fans.

Great review, very sad the quality is so inconsistent, typical I suppose for everything made in china
Thank you! I agree, it is unfortunate to see products that once used to be great go downhill.
I see a liquid cap
