Something is really truly wrong with Richmond, VA's leadership. To pay 2.4 billion for the whole diamond district and to let a developer to instill this layout in their heads is so "small townish." They should've built a larger seat stadium with all the bells and whistles and a 50 or greater story hotel apartment mixed use. Saved: 1 billion.
Good to know of these plans looking forward to hear about more plans coming to the area. Are there any plans for the south Chesterfield area that you know of? Would love a video on that.
I remember the days back in 2003/2004 where you could buy a brand new single family home (2,000+ sqf) for 200k. Specifically, I remember advertisements for Ryan homes starting at $150k. Today those homes are $450k + in just 20 years.
Yep, blame companies and "Flippers" buying properties en masse. Oh and don't forget AirBNB - people buying houses JUST to turn them into AirBNBs. Less properties available, higher costs. If those were changed, you'd see prices go right back to 2016 when rent was $600 a month.
I lived in shockoe bottom from 2015-2017, it was still a pretty hip place with a few grocery stores, pizza, Japanese, chinese restaurants and bars that were within walkingdistance. We drove past our old complex recently and were surprised that even under new management, the rent was the same, 1100-1500. Downtown mainstreet looks a lot cleaner and prettier. The only downside was the parking.

Hi @truebetold65 It sounds like you have strong opinions on the development plans for the Diamond District. It’s definitely important for cities to make strategic decisions that align with their long-term goals. A larger, more ambitious project could have had a big impact, but sometimes these decisions involve balancing various factors. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Yup. Those were the good old days for sure. Houses are very expensive these days.
It's crazy how much the market has changed right!?
Absolutely. In the 20 something years I have been in real estate, it is crazy how much things have changed.

Maybe Richmond and Charlotte could be part of NHL expansion.
I second!
It seems that Richmond should try to be part of MLB expansion.
Interesting! Do you think so?
