Yoshitaka Amano worked for Tatsunoko and was the company’s main character designer up until the mid late 1980s. Nowadays, he is known for the art of early Final Fantasy games as well as that of Arslan and Teito Monogatari, amongst many others.
The Animes made by Tatsunoko are our childhood all over the world. That'll be my inspiration to make my own cartoon series as being part of Tatsuo's dream.
Gatchaman [Battle Of The Planets for me], and Speed Racer [Boomerang and Nicktoons reruns] were my introduction to Tatsunoko. Possibly even my first introductions [besides Pokemon and Digimon] to anime ever!
Dunno where my original comment went, so I'll say it again... Tastsunoko IS THE equivalent to Hanna Barberra with a fantastic array of characters that are just as memberable! From Time Bokan, Gatchaman, Speed Racer and Tekkaman...to Cashan, Tekkaman Blade, Karas, and Soul Taker...Tastsunoko would continue to make an array of other fantastic work that'll be cherished forever!
TOTALLY giving away my age, here, but my introduction to anime was that dreadful English adaption of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, "Battle of the Planets". For its time, it was COMPLETELY different from anything else on TV at the time. I was eventually introduced to other Westernized anime like Star Blazers & Force Five, & that was it, I was permanently hooked. I also have Yoshitaka Amano's illustration book, Imagine. He is an incredibly creative talent.
Anyone else remember Superbook/Flying house? Those where my first anime exposures. I'm still baffled no one has made a video on those shows I bet they must have had an interesting development history (Pat Robertson producing an anime?!?).
I remember watching Superbook in the early 2000s on Spanish channels. You can find episodes online on RUclips with the same name. You can even find the 3d Remake with it as well on here. I can watch the original Superbook all day. The 2d Animation is so nostalgic and beautiful. 😁
Tatsunoko on this time may be not the greatest and famous anime production house, but certaily is one of the pioneer anime house in the history, your comment was accurate, my childhood memories about anime was Gatchaman and speed racer, my favorites shows are Macross, Tekkaman Blade and Evangelion. Great video. Keep the hard work. Greetings from El Salvador
Casshern inspired Raiden having a wolf pet in Metal Gear Rising, there is a poster that even mirrors the pose chasshern had with his dog in Tatsunoko vs Capcom
I'm 55, and Tatsuo Yoshida has been a lifelong hero of mine. As a boy, I was MUCH more magnetically drawn to what he created over anything from Disney! I loved this idea of the connection between Tatsunoko and Hanna Barbera, especially their concurrent lines of superhero shows and cartoon comedy shows! I preferred the superhero versions of both, but they weren't always the ratings winners. Sometimes, a mix of the two, like the Time Bokan series would be a hit! Sadly, I do think (at least for the remainder of the 1970's), the quality did decline after Tatsuo's death. Other than the opening credits, Gatchaman II (1978) is a drastic step down in quality of animation, mecha design, and the detail with which the characters had been drawn by the end of the first series. Still, the company survived!
I clearly remember watching Samurai Pizza Cats, Bob in a Bottle and Bumbety Boo when I was a kid watching Agro's Cartoon Connection during the early to mid 90s. Later on I noticed Gatchaman as well as Yatterman series that were also made by Tatsunoko.
8:54 - Interesting that the Wachowskis did the Speed Racer film. This short sequence looks like an anime version of the "bullet time" that made them famous.
That explains everything. I thought that shows like Casshern, Speed Racer and Yatterman was produced by Hana Barbera since these shows was aired in the same time slot in my country
AAA +++great biography..im happy to have grown up watching his anime...very great story lines and inspiring....Tatsunoko may he rest in peace..God bless his legacy.
Two questions-why wasn't the Superman manga ever collected and translated for a US release like the Batman manga was? Second, was the Gatchaman sequel series ever aired in the US or released on home video in the US?
I still recommend casshan to anime fans. You can’t beat one of the classic jinzouninjin hero’s. He’s probably the best out of all of them with maybe kikider being a close second
I had Amano sign both Dream Hunters written by Neil Gainmen & The Gatchaman Oversized Movie Program back in Anime Expo. Got to also meet Fred Ladd a few years back at a C/FO Meeting. He showed his NHK Documentary made around the same time
The first one got pulled a few months ago due to a copyright strike from Tezuka production. I reuploaded this version with the astro boy opening removed (and also fixed a spelling error in the ending text) but to my surprise, Tezuka production dropped the claim and now the original video is back.
Why did you state that Robotech as one of the anime Japanese first watched? They do not recognize that American Frankenstein series. They only know Macross, Southern Cross, and MOSPEADA which were used to create it.

When i heard his name i kept thinking it sounded familiar, then i remembered his FF art.
Let's not forget the Vampire Hunter D illustrations.
No idea Amano worked for Tatsunoko
@@alexandreturcotte6411 and for Angel's Egg illustrations
Love Amanos art designs for the final fantasy series.
Speed Racer was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I still remember it fondly.
It really sucks that the original is gone. But at least we still have the video.

Excellent Documentary
I didn't know the impact of Tatsunoko was so big, even having Amano in his origins!!
Rest in peace Tatsuo Yoshida.🙏
And his brother Ippei Kuri
Always a thumb up for anything related to Gatchaman!
Please, we NEED a Tatsunoko vs Capcom 2.

At least Star Blazers kept to the story and didn't feel the need to make one of their characters make chirping noises.😄
Anime like this is sorely missed in today's hyper fast corporate conveyer belt anime world.
You have no idea how loudly I screamed 'SPEED RACEEER!' when I heard its theme creeping up in the background. That was AMAZING.

The whiplash hearing yoshitaka amano's name in a non final fantasy related video is jarring
Tatsunoko is an brilliant anime company that ever lived. 😀👍
Both Speed Racer and Superbook are adapted in the US.
Most underrated animation company, I love their ips

I felt chills when Superbook and Flying House were mentioned. Wow. I was raised on Tatsunoko anime who would have thought?!
Mercury Falcon, you are growing up!

The triple take when I heard the name Yoshitaka Amano, dang
Tatsunoko vs Capcom introduced me into this company damn I love TvC so much too much fan it’s a shame it’s overshadowed by the other popular vs titles
TvC is a masterpiece. I like it way better than other Vs series, though SNK vs is great too.
There was a dead or alive DLC pack for this company kind of disappointing
Another great video!👍🏽
My Dad's first anime was Speed Racer. When it first came to America. Said that it blew his mind.
Happy to see this video back up!
I find it hilarious that someone inserted Porky Pig into the Hanna-Barbera roster of characters.
You saw that too?
@@ottagol1985 Yup. Even though both 'Looney Tunes', and 'Hanna-Barbera' are now under Warner Bros.
ok. You got me with Samurai Pizza Cats :P

Forgot Pinocchio
Well at least it's an opportunity to see this great video again
Is there any chance for the Gunbuster video to come back? :(
So Gatchaman as the precursor to Super Senti and Pokemon , nab reeky gave dreams to children over the ages .
I now feel like playing Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Algorithm boost
How come you reuploaded this video for? Was something wrong with the first version?

Standing Ovation
I am Japanese and I liked this video.
I think the first animes I saw back in the 70s was Space Cruiser Yamato AKA Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets
the ninja team that blinded us with science!
any interest in a video about graveyard kitaro?
Please make a video on Kenichi sonodas history
Hanna-Barbera X Tatsunoko anyone?
19:09 😂
I think why Toei not merged with him
did he said "fuck, damn you"?
Shit my first anime was "The Venus Wars" who made that
Gundam's character designer Yasuhiro Yoshikazu and studio Sunrise

I think he talked that part in regards to western old anime fans. he mentioned Speed Racer before Robotech.
hooooooooly fuck dude my grandma was born in Kyoto in 1931!!! maybe they knew eachother!!
