I've been thinking about this soo much. Tik tok is such an interesting psychological and sociological phenomenon. Short format content like Twitter, visually focused like IG, plus addictive algorithms. Psychologically we have no idea how its gonna long term affect us. I love it but it scares me.

I think it is going to result in a lot of mental health problems for people as their identities end up resting on that which brings others fame, thinking that it too shall bring them fame

This is why I appreciate you so so much. You are so authentic with your videos, you have really spoken to me and helped me. I found you first through tik tok, then I found your youtube & saw your extended videos and thought to myself "why isn't this guy more known?" You inspired me to start therapy and to heal from my past. You showed me new perspectives I never thought of. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge. Thank you for staying true to your self and your content, it really shows and you help so many people because of it :)

Absolutely amazing video man, from the first minute to the last, and the end part I could relate to A LOT. I wanted to be famous due to childhood trauma, I hoped in my 20s that becoming famous online would even out my pain and bring fairness to my life. I then saw people becoming famous for (from my point of view) no reason whatsoever, which made me feel miserable.
EDIT: What also sucked is that, famous People tend to talk a lot about how hard they worked to get where they are which made me feel like I didn't work hard enough. So I began working harder and feeling more miserable because I then demanded more fame or success from destiny every time I put in more effort.

As a creator I’ve found myself many times riding the high of a video performing well, and feeling devastated when it doesn’t. I’ve tried to teach myself to be proud of my work if I grew in skill or my ability to express myself in the process of making it, and not by it’s online performance. Thanks for sharing!

Success with integrity is the principle on which I built my following and what I practice and preach constantly in my little pocket of fame on Facebook lol. Thank you for promoting the vital importance of being willing to stand by your values even when tempted with big money. I see this as the only way to rise to fame and not be consumed by its shadow. Meticulous commitment to your value and values in matters of business, influence, and leadership is a truly revolutionary act in a world culture still caught by the paradigm that intimidates and coerces people to give up their free will and creativity in exchange for safety, security, and wealth.

This is so insightful. I gasped out loud a couple of times because I hadn't thought of things that way. 21st century/social media age celebrity culture is.. interesting. I think because our generation has grown up/come of age in it sometimes we can't see the forrest for the trees and think critically about this culture and what its doing to us. Thank you for sharing this analysis x

Dude what you said about instagram ultimately destroying the income of influencers, in keeping people small was pretty much the answer I have been looking for as to why the algorithm has been punishing small business and artists and tbh, I am dropping something new soon and if it doesn't have any impact or sales I am going to just outright delete my social media accounts, tired of pushing against that shit

This literally explains why I feel like I have two different sides of me one that has to always look like an Ig baddie and one side that wants to be all natural eco friendly etc. this explains why cos Ive always wanted to be a famous model/actor or whatever for validation I’m realizing is why

I think the link you made between the celebrity "stars" and literal stars holds true when you think about the resurgence of astrology in pop culture. With astrology people look to the stars & constellstions to tell them who they are. Likewise, psychology studies have shown that youth tend to use their favorite celebrities and brands to identify themselves and tell people who they are. Its like being and Arianator or a Beleiber becomes a personality trait, an identifying feature- like being a Virgo or Pisces.

Every word in this video is spot on thank you. It seems like everyone is going around saying forget a 9 to 5 who needs a 9 to 5 to the point where it makes it seem bad to have a 9 to 5 when in reality I feel like I function better with that accountability and structure

This is something Im dealing with as a mom of a 7 and 5 year old...with where culture is right now, they're so worried about creating content and wanting me to post things to get likes...I've been in the entertainment industry and helped others around me to build their brand, their business, but I dont do that in my home life. But to see my kids only want to be RUclipsrs, and even lose their own selves in trying to over react, over stimulate, make everyrhing a challenge, even with no camera in sight, I worry they're loosing themselves before they can even figure out who they are, and I'm seeing the mental struggle of being ok with "ordinary" life at home or simple life of being with each other, or even the ability to focus or sit still without "performing" for those of us actually with them in the moment. Perception is their own reality, and it's hard to show them the difference and have them understand when it's so immersed in our culture.

Sorry I’m just discovering this video. This is a topic that I have been thinking about a lot the last week, so it seems fatalistic that I see this video.
The internet creates this conflicting feeling of being connected with people with thoughts and ideas, yet still physically alone. Being physically alone is hard, because people need the touch of other humans, but if they stay too physically connected then they won’t feel connected on the internet. The balance is off.
I think Oprah does articulate it the best by saying everyone in this world wants to know three things in this world: Do you hear me? Do you see me? Does what I say matter?
Thanks for all you do my friend. ❤️

There’s a book called ‘ten arguments for deleting your social media accounts right now’, written by Jaren Lanier, who was one of the first pioneers in virtual reality... He’s one of the guys who invented social media… maybe this book might be useful to you.

I’m just thinking that the ability to be content with being ordinary also gives you the humility and opportunity to enjoy the vastness and goodness of our God. I think the ability to be content with the parts of us that are ordinary gives us the ability to enjoy the presence of Jesus and experience the Holy Spirit.

It saddens me that the amount of views is about an accurate measure of how valuabe this is to people around me... What saddens me even more is the feeling of the whole world being ripped out of my heart, where it belonged... But not in reality it seems.

Such a great video!! I'm a believer so I know my identity is in Christ. Lately the Lord has been asking me to record what He is doing in my life my writting it down. When you said what you said about how people want a selfie its such as building an alter of memories when the met their divine influencer, it was a confirmation that because I serve the Lord, I need to write His story down that He is doing in me!! Such a great topic over all!!!

No, just because you wanna talk to a celebrity does not mean you’re praying to them as if they are God. Although I do believe that some people do that, and they do see them as God..
