I have been in IT for many years and am now studying Cloud Architecture. I have watched NUMEROUS videos of yours and I think you are AWESOME!!! You explain things very CLEARLY and you are EXTREMELY easy to follow. Thank you very much :)
Just started getting into Networking, and it's pretty daunting for someone like me who has virtually no real background with computers let alone the networks they talk to each other through. But of all the lessons I've dug through on RUclips, Eli, you are hands down the best at explaining these sorts of things in an approachable manner. Thank you for putting these up for everyone, and thanks for giving me the confidence to shoot for certification(s).
J S Welch Although I am not in Networking yet, in my High School Cisco class, it's not the teacher who's bad at teaching, because believe me or not he's the best damn teacher there is. It's just that he uses terms I can never understand fully since I don't have a PC background.
My friend, if I tell you my story, I promise you 100% you wouldn't believe it, but essentially, I come from poverty and you built my whole career with your videos, and now I work at a very good job so thank you. I have a family now and everything, I can afford to take care of them because I had the opportunity to learn Sysadmin stuff from you
Connect the port to a switch and then connect one of the ports on the switch to your Lab Router. Connect all of your home PCs to the switch... Connect all of your lab systems to the internal port of the Lab Router...
After I finished my introductory course to IT back in 2010 I didn't find work immediately, which resulted in me forget quite a bit. Your course were a huge help. Coming back here after so many years just to say thank you. I've been out of work for a while now due to COVID and because I have no equipment I need a quick revision. Now with advance IT skills I can see why your course was such a help. Thank you so much Eli.
You may be the best, but you are still the best inspiration for me to move forward to learn new networking. I am on my way to CCNA and you made a spark that became an idea to get into networking. Thanks for all
Ill pay $1000 for college take a class but instructor never ever teach nothing just giving TestOut but this prof everything explain very well and without paying from who learning the system really mess up
I wonder who would give this guy a thumbs down? I would like to see your video. I really don't think anybody can explain networking as well as Eli. Thumbs up from me man. I studied networking Technology in 2005 and am using your videos to remember all this stuff and I am so grateful to have found your channel!
Hello, Elei yes I started too fast, (ADHD) and this went well until there was no more communication and all my aperates went crazy! now because of you I know what it was! "no LAB" So I'm going to dust things off and try again and follow you even better! definitely a cup of coffee coming! thanks until now!!
I found an old RV-042 in my employers broom-closet/boiler-room/.... "server" room... I brought it home to use as my home lab router. this was the first video I found and was blown away that you were using the same one in your tutorial.... and almost strange that it even had custom labels of the exact same size and placement on the top...
Hey, I just wanted to thank you for all your intro videos in windows server, linux, etc in helping me secure my first job as an IT support technician. After watching a bunch of your introduction videos, i was able to confidently go into my first job interview, and nail all the question they asked me relating to IT. I start Jan 30th, and I can't thank you enough for your easy to follow video playlist that i can just let run while i was working at my old job, and be able to learn so much. Thanks!!!
Hello Eli, I believe that doing the classes as your focus is best for your followers. I know that you are enjoying what you are doing! Life passes too quickly. Everyone reaps the rewards of your tutorials. Continue having fun!
You should be able to do it... If I was there I could set it up in about ten minutes, but I can't explain it from here. Just Google the hell out of it, and use this as a learning experience.
Thanks! I don't consider myself new to networking at all, more of a hobbyist, but this helped me greatly. Been trying to set this type of Network in my home for awhile now.
If you don't know what port forwarding is go to take the class! that was very helpful I guess it takes a genius like you to point that out! Good job man!!
he meant, he himself has a video explaining what that is, which is a 15-20 minute concept - if explained in this video, would deviate us from learning the concept he's trying to teach. It's just that some half-wit dumb as#es with a shorter attention span may not be able to follow if the class deviates into too many concepts and complain in the comments portraying how incompetent and clueless they are to just patiently listen to a video to understand it, despite appreciating the effort he put in, while the same will be taught with not even half the quality of how he does for ridiculously high fee.
Ive been looking into routers and switches and networking in general, checking out many videos over the past couple of days. Its nice to come across this video that explains about the physical network in a way that's informative and easy to understand. Great whiteboard section showing exactly what i need to do.
im going to subscribe to you. thats the best information i got today. better than an instructor i had in another college. he jusr read off a power point. i learned more reading the book than listening to him.
I need to test with Windows 2012, but many times in Server 2003 and 2008 Windows will shut down its open DHCP server if it detects another DHCP server on the network...
Your videos have been incredibly helpful for helping me start my homelab! While I've only been tinkering with Win Server 2012, this video has enabled me to start messing with DNS, AD, and DHCP.
Eli did not mention this in the video, but you will need to add a static route on your 192.168.1.1 router pointing all IP packets from 192.168.2.0/24 to your 192.168.1.2 lab router.
how would I connect a VMware virtual network to the ISP router, do I need a virtual router can you even get a virtual router on VMware? or do I do something different?

Thanks Eli for such a informative lecture. You always explain the things in most effective way which helps us to understand the real picture behind the technology. Cheers!!!
Unfortunately, no consumer based routers I know of have definable routing features that I know of. If you have a lot of old hardware lying around check if you have any which are compatible with DD-WRT, at minimum you can define routes from LAN to WAN ports. Alternatively if you have computer parts lying around a good way to get into is is to put together a computer with several NIC's and install linux or even dedicated router distro's. Its a good start to get familiar with it
Hi! Just a few words to thank you for all the amazing job that you did on the Windows Server 2012 playlist (and others)!!! Besides, your narration and your diction are really perfect for foreigner (french guy like me). Keep up the good work :-) You rock man!
Thank you for sharing this! I just got an ear full for taking down the home network lol. Now I can create a lab network so this doesn’t happen again. Thank you again!

Trying to wrap my head around this. Quick questions. So if the DNS and DHCP servers of all 3 routers are enabled does that mean that each DNS and DHCP server on each of the 3 routers are in 3 different subnets? And if this is the case does a DHCP server of a router ABOVE another router treat the router below it exactly the same as it would a client computer the way in which it assigns it an IP Address, such as the way (i believe the external address)WAN1 IP: is 10.247.248.122 in the video at 10:46.

Hey Jason, I HIGHLY recommend you watch Eli's video on Subnetting. EDIT: Sorry Jason was completely talking out of my ass before; basically as long as you have your static routes predefined on your router and, as Eli mentioned in the video, have the communicating ports on the same prefix your networks should be able to communicate. Unfortunately you will not be able to do this with the router you are using.
Eli, You are simply the BEST!!! now I have a problem, With a fresh install of WS-2012R2, I have all my client computers assigned and working but it takes forever to log in for each client. Once it gets to "WELCOME" it hangs for over 5 min or more before the Desktop opens. What could be the problem. It is with any client computer
Great content, I want you to show the show world the subneting of the first ip address to get the other adresses for the other routers. Just a simple class C subnetting to get along with the video
Eli, I only have one RJ-45 port on my modem that connects to my ISP. How can I setup my Cisco lab separate my from my home network if this is the case?
Sir your videos are very helpful , i had already installed Virtual box for installing Windows server 2008, but my problem is in this virtual machine which is created using virtual box is how to create client and connect this client to our server which is created, I want to show demo by connecting a client to windows 2008 or 2012 server .?
Great video, Eli! Really clarified a few things for me. However, do you have a video on how to connect the routers? This video assumes an ethernet cable connection, but what if you can't run cable between floors? Is there a way to connect the routers wirelessly? That would be awesome!
+Steve Richardson Yes, that would be with bridge mode, or wireless bridge mode. Look it up! Now I don't about setting up different networks with that. I'm guessing once you have a bridge connect another routher to the bridge and then continue on with the setup. But that's my guess.
I have a dd wrt an old wrt54g. I am currently using it as a wireless bridge across my home since none of my other routers are capable. . I may have to go buy a cheapo piece of equipment that can bridge my network and relocate it. The untangle box can route fine.
Nice video. Very information, clear, and easy to understand. Additionally, the volume is great. I know this sounds weird to comment on the volume, but so many videos are hard to hear/understand.

Great lesson Sensei. I am finally grasping internetwork connectability. Now, on to the subnetting video.

This is also the case in Server 2012, if you plug in a router to the network it kicks off the 2012 DHCP server sometimes DNS too.
You really rock maan. Awesome thing you're doing here.

I'm in a coma right now but as soon as I awaken I'll watch again and try to build my own.
Superb Love The Way You Teach ^_*
Great teacher TBH. Probably the most important step of his teaching is that he reviews and summarizes at the end to make sure the entire topic is clear.

Hi 👋
Your classes are amazing !!!!!! I’m new in this world Networking and all this. So, I’m a new subscriber, thanks
Hi Eli. When you connect your second router (netgear or Linksys) to your Verizon router, how do you know which IP to use to connect to the router using a browser?
Thank you
Great class! I need to build a computer lab to learn and practice using WireShark packet analyzer. Thank you!
Just wanted to chime in and thank you. It's much appreciated.
Thanks for this good class, and for all your info on networking, well explained and easy to understand. Hope you keep up the good work :)

Thank you very much for this tutorial. I am just wondering if you had to do anything special with regards to NAT on each router?
You need to do an up to date playlist for Windows Server 2016 or 2019
You should dmz every router down stream so no port issues great tutorial
I am an IT nut. So I have about 16 routers, 4 servers. I even have VOIP from the cable company that is converted to analog then reconverted to VoIP.
Hi Eli the computer Guy, I watched the videos they are awesome.....just wanted to say thanks to you, you are really awesome, keep rocking..

thanks Eli got a very clean clear understanding of routing and building your own network
Eli, I only have one RJ-45 port on my modem that connects to my ISP. How can I setup my Cisco lab separate my from my home network if this is the case?
Hey Eli! Great clear explanation! Thank you Sir! And you got yourself another fan lol

Helped a lot now I figured out why my mom and I were having internet issues with my server.
