Great vlog Bill it's really interesting to see all these features the camera has to offer and how they function in real time situations thanks as always 👍🏻
Thanks Paul, there's so many choices when it comes to auto focus It's almost confusing. I think you have to use the camera for a little while to kind of find what works best in each situation.
I had the opportunity to play with this (Z6 2) in store, and I have to admit it is a fantastic camera. If I were starting over I would probably look here. But I'm not, I will have to live with my RP for now, (no regrets, I love it), but it is functionally limited compared to my 70D. Its the FF sensor that makes it worthwhile, and the RF lenses are looking good(expensive though). The Z mount 24-70 f4 sounds like a great lens for walk around. I wish Canon could come out with a less expensive midrange zoom. I've always been a fan of f4 zooms mixed with faster primes. Anyhow, nice job, keep it fun!
Thanks John, you have to remember that the z62 is also double the price of the RP. So you can expect it to be the same. With that said I think all of these cameras are pretty good and this price range.
@@BillEricPhotography I bought my RP because I was so impressed with my M50's ease of use and the wysiwyg nature of mirror less. I wanted the R but the RP was on sale ($600 less than the R) and it was still using the 6D MK2 sensor which is plenty good for what I do. The R6 looks like where I will eventually go, but I'm not in a hurry now. Double the money and then some is always a big leap. I still shoot birds and fast moving things with the 70D because the RP AF is too slow. But you are correct in that these are all very nice cameras, so much better than what we had 7-10 years ago.
nice video. I am using Z6ii (V1.4) + Z 70-200/F2.8 at 2.8, mode A, af-c, AF-ON, auto area focus people, subject tracking on FN1. eye detetcion in streetphoto is a nightmare. people must come close to me until yeloow eye or face box appears (or never !) and when it works, i have lost the feet because body of people occupies the display. single point af-c is working nicely, just an habit to place the point quickly with joystick. I am happy you noticed subject tracking looses easily the subject. I leave it at center and turn camera and press af-on continuously to follow (correct ?) the subject and suddenly the box jumps in a tree, above head of the runner i was following,... strange !
These autofocus modes can be very confusing. I find when I'm shooting a portrait the eye autofocus works perfectly but for tracking it's a little tough sometimes. I find myself using single point most of the time and taking control of the camera. Most of my photography things aren't moving that fast and I can use usually move the point around to where I need it. But I do use continuous mode all the time and have separated the shutter from the autofocus and use the back button to autofocus.
Excellent video and interesting results. I use Nikon D5 and D6 cameras and lenses. Waiting for the Nikon Z9 to see if it's equal or surpass the D5 and D6. Tried the Z6 and Z7 cameras in the areas I work is action,Sports and wildlife during day and nighttime floodlights environments but wasn't impressed by the tracking system or focusing wasnt good on the Z6 and Z7 was not on the same level as my aforementioned D5 and D6 cameras.
I think the z62 might be a little bit better than the z6 as far as focusing. But I'm sure Nikon's flagship cameras are better. The z9 should be interesting.
I really enjoy the channel and respect to your opinion, I'm a hobbyist on the fence between the Z5 and a slightly used z6ii, I would get the ftz adapter so I could use my f-mount glass. Please share your insight, thank you!
Thanks Bill Ive been following these videos intensively as Im about to buy my next camera for hybrid work. As a Nikon D750 user its been very helpful to see how canon and Nikon Af systems work.
@@BillEricPhotography Im waiting to see if the rumour of real time tracking coming to the Z6II will happen in September. Ive kind of decided to get the R6 for the AF, clog 3 and video backup. Plus I shoot a lot more vertical video and images and the flip screen will help for that.
Another great video Bill! I’d be interested to hear how the pics came out after you’ve had the opportunity to review them on your computer. Also, I wonder if it might have been faster with the Nikon Z-mount version of the same lens. I need to try with my Z7 II to see how the tracking works with Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8S.
@@BillEricPhotography It’s interesting because even though the box doesn’t appear to lock on, it really is focusing. This has been somewhat improved with the recent update to the firmware. The box locks onto the face and eye earlier, and seems to hold on.
I feel like the eye detect really struggled. I was far away from the subjects and I think that's why. But the autofocus in auto mode worked really well with the horse and riders. And the subject tracking worked well for slower moving subjects. I think you just have to learn the different modes and apply them in different situations.
@@BillEricPhotography its interesting the Z5 a Z6 have the same sensor, but the Z6 can do 12fps and the Z5 can only do 5fps. So Nikon must be intentionally limiting what the Z5 can do so they can charge a lower price.
Nice video. I’ve been using the Z5 for weddings and to capture my young kids and have had no issues. Love the Z glass and the files
Glad you got a good copy of that camera. It really would have been perfect for me if I didn't have those autofocus issues that I was having.
Are you talking pictures of static subjects? What lens and apertures are you using?
@@TheVitalishe 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8. Not static, typical moving subjects at a wedding

Get the z6ii. It's a much better camera. I have owned both.

Sounds like the Canon is the right choice for you!
@@BillEricPhotography if Nikon pull one out of the box - and the AF is easier and more reliable to use - I'll stay with them. 👍
Sounds like you could really use that flippy screen. I know there are so many times I wish Nikon had it!
Great video! Just noticing that while California has DL and a few smaller parks, there seems to be way more to do in your neck of the woods.
You know what's funny I feel the same way about the West Coast. Seems like there's so many places to go and things to see out there.

Unfortunately Nikon is behind Sony and Canon when it comes to AF. As Nikon user I am hoping they can catchup....
Is Z62 is definitely a step in the right direction. I still think Canon's is the benchmark to shoot for
Do you miss the Z5 for this kind of photography?
No the Z5 was not as good as the Z6II

Animal AF dogs/cats only as of this stage
It would be great for wildlife photographers to have better animal AF!
