I believe the explanation for hypoxia/hypoxemia is backwards. Hypoxemia (decreased O2 content in the blood) will lead to hypoxia (decreased tissue oxygenation) and subsequent lactic acidosis via anaerobic metabolism.
Hi there, I have a possible concussion. CT w/o contrast returned from the ER PA that everything "came back _normal_ ". However, I've been experiencing headaches after 36 hours of a mechanical exertion of force around the hundreds to thousands (in Newtons). Is there anything I should be watching out for if this may progress whether it's intensity, area of difficulty, etc.? I am a student, so I will be practicing due diligence. I need to carefully and watchfully take this under consideration even though I am the one effected. Chiropractor indicates whiplash and plans for MRI. What is the likelyhood for TBI and the type of TBI condition considering the CT scan, of course dependent on the orientation of impact? Can the CT scan even peer into imaging of the brain?
Me too. I'm at home 3 months in from a TBI with zero treatment because workers comp and offices are dropping the ball. .. I'm now just becoming aware and advocating for myself. These videos are helpful

Why isn't your neuro unit super helpful? I got TBI GCS 8 complete Amnesia 6 months. GP had told I was GCS 15. INTENSIVE Care Unit saved my life but gave me back to the bent doctor who deleted everything about the hospital finding him and his wife had been wrong about EVERYTHING. GP physicians bury their mistakes. It's like the police investigating themselves then awarding themselves medals for heroism. The people they've silen ced can't complain. Thank you for making this video series! 20 years ago, this was my life after a car wreck when the uneducated ER staff sent me home in the middle of the night with a diagnosis of "Just Fine." Over the next few days, this is exactly what happened to me. Alone. With the world closed for Christmas. (In the snow, uphill, no shoes.) So in addition to living with TBI, I also had to battle criminal, insurance, and civil entities just to prove that anything had happened to me--on scrambled brains--and I've barely received any treatment for my TBI. This is the same staff who didn't take neck X-rays because they couldn't figure out how to get my necklace off--a different issue that gave me years of seizures from backed-up CSF. Being on a state low-income medical program, every 6 months I got rotated through new graduating doctors who heard the word "seizures," but told me there was nothing to be done since I hadn't been sent to a neurologist for the initial incident, and the worthless MRI they took of my brain after 6 months showed there was "nothing wrong with me." Same with the EEG on a day I wasn't seizing. Having educated medical staff would have changed my life, and maybe I wouldn't be on disability today. So thank you, thank you, thank you on behalf of those being injured after me! This is crucial stuff, not only for ICU. You don't need to have broken bones, breathing problems, or so much as a scratch to be significantly impacted for life. PS That "Keep Calm/Intubated" Tshirt is great! We have to keep a (dark) sense of humor about this stuff, man!
Bruh thank you so much for this video. It’s been really hard to internalize information and I never really understood why. After my anoxic event, I noticed cognitive problems but I would just blame it on my ADHD, thinking I simply had built up a tolerance to my medication and that’s why I was having cognitive issues. Never thought much of it until 6 months after the injury (2 months ago) when I went from doing nothing to being a full time student at a rigorous institution. This video really put things into perspective and helped me understand my summary report
Okay so Eddie, I’ve had many, many Brain Surgeries throughout my life. I was born with Hydrocephalus in 1966, and had my shunt placed when I was six weeks old in Denver. I’ve had many revisions throughout my life, and in 1987 at 21after 15 years of being stable, I had emergency rain surgery for another revision, I was living in Utah by this time, and attending College three wees away from my very first 4.0! However, I missed two weeks of school and so, it never happened. At the time of this 87 Surgery, it was discovered that I had a Colloid Cyst in the middle of my Brain, but at the time it was determined that it was risking my life to go in and remove it, but that it should be monitored. Fast forward to 2011. After having several more shunt revisions insincerity’s 87, a mild concussion from a horrible blow to the back of my head, and for a time having my shunt tied off, because I was being used as a guinea pig. “Is this woman really shunt dependent?” “Hey why don’t we put a programmable shunt in?” Sorry, I know this is a long comment, but IREALLY DO HAVE A QUESTION at the end!! I had moved to a new city and didn’t have a neurosurgeon, OR Insurance at the time. I was having excruciating migraines, but I KNEW it was my shunt failing. I had to pick a Surgeon. I made an appointment for a consult, the Dr. took one look at my scans, and said, “I know you just met me, but you must be admitted tonight. Straight from my office. Your Cyst has grown and is in a dangerous spot. If it were to move even a FRACTION, you would be Dead in an instant. I know you’ve been told this before, (I had) and that it was at a spot where it was inoperable. (I had). But there have been advances in recent years, and if you are willing to put your trust in me, I will admit you tonight, observe tomorrow, remove the cyst on Saturday, remove the old shunt, and then in a few days when you are stable, we will go in and place a new shunt in a slightly different spot. SO, THE END OF THIS LONG STORY, HERE IS MY QUESTION.. I was told before the first surgery to remove the cyst, I could possibly lose some of my short term memory. I DID, I STILL HAVEN’T regained that part of my brain function. I never will. In fact, it has gotten much worse. I was told that this was because of where the cyst was located, (smack dab in the middle of my brain just right above my Corpus Collossum.) And due to all the trauma my brain had been through over the years I was told I had a TBI. SO, THAT IS MY QUESTION? Is everything I’ve been through, is that considered a TBI? Due to Multiple Brain Surgeries and past history of concussions? (If you made it this far, CONGRATULATIONS, and thanks for being patient! (I’ll be 54 in December. I know one other person who is my age who has a shunt, without any other Comormibidities. (We call each other Shunt Buddy!)

I had someone involved in a motorcycle accident on 10/16/2020...he's still unconscious after15 days...They took off his breathing machine but given oxygen through the nose... today, the doctors said he's still not responding...what are the prognosis and chances?
Hopefully in the future. This was the last lesson I got to before COVID hit and then got sidetracked for a while and picked back up with COVID lessons. I do plan to loop back at some point.

So in other words you are saying a tbi can cause diabetes? Since you mentioned inability to store glucose in your body after tbi ? Wanna know something, I had a major head Injury back in June 26, 2014 a lot of bleeding , had to get stitches, got partially blurred vision from there to now, no skull injury that I know of...i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes November 3, 2015... Do you see any correlation with this? Thank you.

Could the pressure be whats causing my new symptoms 10 years later? Twitching and jolting (myoclonus) is even affecting breathing, yet I’m on a waiting list to hear back from the VA. Head hurts so bad. Told to wait it out. Lots of resting lately which could theoretically help reduce the fatigue and swelling I’m sure, yet my twitching increased when I try to rest, even if sitting up. My breathing jolting and my head shakes can be quite painful. Not as concerned about extremity jolting as much as I am injury from breathing issues or head jolting. Hurts for any vibration, so uncontrollable “head banging” is very painful at times. With covid, being put on the back-burner for now from the VA. Even over the counter treatment ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have gotten a lot of CTI'S before and let me say they aren't fun whatsoever. Last year I had an overdose on medicines from the physicians and doctors and so many more people. I had a lot of seizures, hitting my head a lot from the overdose on medicines. I feel like I have sustained a brain injury from it. But I don't know... I just don't trust doctors or physicians anymore...
At age of 25 years old , i drank 15 Litres of water in 15 hours . I was drinking 1 Litre of water after every 1 hour . Then i suffered from LightHeadedness . I think i have suffered brain damage . My ability to understand and think have decreased . Please help please

@@ICUAdvantage I have a question. At 12:08 you talk about how CO2 increases cerebral blood flow via vasodilation. How does it do this? I thought vasodilation lowers blood pressure, leading to a ↓MAP? I don't understand how it increases CBF.
Question: MAP- ICP=IPP, why in 12:38, decrease ICP would lead to ischemia ? if ICP decrease, IPP should go up and blood perfusion increase? thanks
I think what you are referring to is when I talk about reducing the blood flow in the brain.

So in other words you are saying a tbi can cause diabetes? Since you mentioned inability to store glucose in your body after tbi ? Wanna know something, I had a major head Injury back in June 26, 2014 a lot of bleeding , had to get stitches, got partially blurred vision from there to now, no skull injury that I know of...i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes November 3, 2015... Do you see any correlation with this? Thank you.

Could the pressure be whats causing my new symptoms 10 years later? Twitching and jolting (myoclonus) is even affecting breathing, yet I’m on a waiting list to hear back from the VA. Head hurts so bad. Told to wait it out. Lots of resting lately which could theoretically help reduce the fatigue and swelling I’m sure, yet my twitching increased when I try to rest, even if sitting up. My breathing jolting and my head shakes can be quite painful. Not as concerned about extremity jolting as much as I am injury from breathing issues or head jolting. Hurts for any vibration, so uncontrollable “head banging” is very painful at times. With covid, being put on the back-burner for now from the VA. Even over the counter treatment ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have gotten a lot of CTI'S before and let me say they aren't fun whatsoever. Last year I had an overdose on medicines from the physicians and doctors and so many more people. I had a lot of seizures, hitting my head a lot from the overdose on medicines. I feel like I have sustained a brain injury from it. But I don't know... I just don't trust doctors or physicians anymore...
At age of 25 years old , i drank 15 Litres of water in 15 hours .
I was drinking 1 Litre of water after every 1 hour . Then i suffered from LightHeadedness .
