    I would NEVER have used an excavator for taking out deep decay. That's a sure way to suddenly expose the pulp.

      Um, too bad this comment is 5 yo. I’d love to know what you had in mind. Spoon excavators are the standard to remove decay. More control than using a bur.

    when you have a small cavity that just started to decay would you still need the numbing needle
