    You did very good for your first time! Raise the box til you feel the material shift, then roll forward and trip the latch and watch your spread!
    The guy loading is very gentle, hardly shook the truck! Smooth and even!

    Always watch out for power lines and tree limbs . Never let a customer talk you into doing anything unsafe. Be very aware of your lean. Mine flipped over the other day and it was a flat grade. We had had a lot of rain, ground was soft on right side of driveway. Flipped so fast I didn't have time to think. Almost got fired, whew. Great job 1st time. My first, SEVERAL, I was none to proud of. Again, GREAT JOB, Driver!!!

    First tip : raise the box till you hear the stone shift if you have the the window down you can hear it slide and hit the gate start the truck moving before popping the gate for a smooth start to the spread. second: on the last load did it feel like the truck was surging if so you had the box too high cause the stone to get stuck at the gate then breaking free leaving a pile then a thin spot and repeating till the gate isn't over loaded.

    🔥Those were great spreads for anyone...experienced or not. I raise the bed until I hear the load slide back against the tailgate...then raise it about one more foot. About 40 feet along I raise the bed the rest of the way up to keep it consistent. Lay with it Chris!!!

    Just lift the bed until you feel the load slightly shift and hit your tailgate that's when you know that you're high enough. Good job for your first time! You've been around them enough to get the concept, just need to hone in on your fine skills.

      The entire process is very similar to when my wife backs up to the dining chair I have pulled out and am holding as my wife starts to slowly ease into her chair. Her hamstring muscles work smoothly until 65% to 70% of butt weight physics takes control and the remaining 30% -35% of motion increases and becomes a free fall to an abrupt stop

  • @Pete-from-Tn
    @Pete-from-Tn 5 лет назад +1

    I always raised the bed, until you feel the rock shift and hit the tailgate. Then roll forward, with the lift going up. And did a many loads backing up. When doing a driveway, that I had to start in the main road. And back through trees. Works great after you do it a time or 1000.
    One like that big Cat was what loaded me Thursday. Don't take long with those to get a load.

    Not bad for time tailgating. I always found around the second stage of the hoist was the sweet spot

    • @schafn
      @schafn 4 года назад

      Each truck has its own sweet spot. I had a 1972 Mack with a scissor lift and I had a benchmark on the lift for when to put the truck in gear and open the tailgate. I don't know what trucks are like these days but the Mack didn't have live hydraulics. You had to have the clutch out for the PTO to work and raise the box. Once the box was in position you had to put it in whatever gear you wanted depending on how thick you wanted the rock to spread. Then you'd ease the clutch out and when the truck started moving flip the switch for the tailgate. About then you'd better have the lever pulled to raise the box too.

      Those are "tag axles" they are lowered to the road with airbags to meet the state's axle rating for the GVW of the truck. In essence, they let the truck carry more legally. Normally only down when on the road and loaded. Normally you put them up at the job site as it makes the truck easier to turn.

    We all start somewhere. I don't know what or how the controls on that box works so who is to say they can get it perfect each and everytime. Not me and I did drive rock trucks from that little one that your driving to those ukes down in the pit. It looks easy and in some ways is but not always. I did drive for my dad with a single axle gas powered flatbed dump and some other conglomerations that would make you wonder years later how did I survive that?!! LOL, its just a job and a lot more goes into being a easy or hard job. Off highway trucks get pretty sketchy at times or most times when hauling large rock out to be broken up again or used in fill on the muskeg roads in alaska. Islands are kinda funny as they are all muskeg except the roads and that included the bunkhouse areas. Or it was solid rock and had to be blasted.... they used a dozer to get a rock in the bed of my truck and then it was side heavy and no way to fix so drive with tires lifting on one side all the way.... not a fun moment but overall kinda fun too. On some of the trucks we hauled with, took the drivers door off so could bail out in time an had to more than liked. Lost a few lunch pails over that. I remember one old truck that the load hung up and the driver just got out by the hair of his head and the truck flopped over on its back... we used the big cat and a couple excavators and shoved the whole works into the mud, truck and all. Alaska, no place like it nor will there ever be...... but, but those aborigines in some other countries make that look like kids play with nothing to really work with. Solid tires, solid axles and chains to run each wheel.... really makes you appreciate your day job

    In the video from the front of the bed you did good on height, I'd imagine. Since you had a pool of gravel always waiting to fall out, I mean. Perhaps the last one you didn't have the right height? I don't have any real idea. I'm just guessing since I've never done it. It's the curse of the critical thinker. It seems having that pool of gravel means an even flow.
