When im setting my 650's or 750;s i bring my cousin Mary with me , she weighs 475 , i have her jump on the levers which not only pushes the levers down but seat the whole trap two inches in the ground which makes my dirts sets a dream .
mb 650 is no joke they are lighting fast and meant too last a long time and allow the springs too stay strong while in frozen snow and ice and maybe some frozen dirt they are for sure overkill but if you wanna hold a wolf they might work if you had some incidental catches on a coyote line , the pan tension screws do rust and need replacement too super long brass screws after a few seasons I have a dozen that cannot be changed much because the screws bind up & twist in half they are rusted into place per say and the night latches need attention every season either scrape out wax or if they were in salt they need some cleaning with a file and pan tension variation is tricky after they get waxed a few times they need tinkering
The MB 650's seem to come really stiff, do you leave the pans stiff or floppy and then do you bow wax on night latch? Also, have you tried expand a pans for them?
james Glendale I usually take a 2.5 lb hammer and lay it on pan and make sure it fires or a trap tester and yes the pans are stiff I recommend you test them and make sure they fire at 2.5 too 3lb depending on your target animal but yes pan adjustment on a new trap is key for sure and brass bolts if you can get them long enough will do you a bunch of good and they won’t rust like the stock pan screw
james Glendale I haven’t used 650s at all yet, but the pan tension out of the box was too high, so I loosened it until the Pan was floppy and then it’s about 3lbs. Not sure yet about bowstring wax, it works on the K9 Xtremes.
I think I might buy a dozen of the duke 650s for the hell of it tho I love MB 550s and bigger ones can’t hurt but also I ain’t sure I wanna make even more wax sand 🤣 and I’m sure they are heavier too drag around in totes too

I can't wait to get the Duke 550 650 and new dogless
I used some of the 550s last season, they are a solid trap for sure. I’ve only got 1 of the 650s, but it’s a tank. The new Dogless look solid too.
Thanks for responding

We got a dozen of the Duke 650s. Can't wait to put the hurt on some old 'yotes with 'em!
the duke 650 is way bigger than the mb. it will be a great trap and big enough to pick up a beaver if you run out of bigger traps .
judith davis I’ve caught several beavers in Montgomery 4s and even Duke 3s, and it’s way bigger than either of those.
@@motrapper4273 would these be too big for a front foot catch on a beaver?
james Glendale I don’t think so. The offset is about 3/8”. They should hold beavers by either foot just fine.
Great video brother! You explained it all very well 😊👍👍
duke is going to be putting out an 850 before long, it is going to be a beast.
judith davis I saw one on Trapper J, they will be a helluva beaver trap for sure
What's pan tension out of box
I'm using the 550 & smaller they work for me

Dukes are made in China so are naturally cheaper.
