Just wanted to say that i thoroughly enjoyed the video, and you have a really calming voice, its honestly perfect for reviews on products! I just ordered the same projector! Im gunna have it about 9' 6" away from the screen, so itll be just over 100" diagonal which I think will be perfect for my small bedroom. Thanks for doing a great, honest review on the projector! It definitely helped me make up my mind on which projector to buy!
Ian Hay Thanks on all fronts. Please come back and tell me what you think about yours when you get it up and running. I wonder if you will see the rainbow effect. Good luck, and thanks again. In the future, I'm going to try to cut down on the "Ahhhhhhhhh's" ; )
Denny Smoke I totally agree Denny. Good thing for us is we are home bodies! I still enjoy going to the movies, but with us now hooked into a cable box, I can't wait for the next season of game of thrones.
I've owned three dlp projectors so far. And I know there's a rainbow but I've really tried not to realize the actual effect. Because I know once I see it I won't be able to go back. Keep away from things u don't want in your life. My wife loves this uhd50 I know if I tell her how to see the rainbow we won't enjoy it as much. Nice video.
Thanks man! Great advice. Funny I dont notice it (rainbow effect) at all anymore! I will have to google the uhd50, not familiar with it. I'm going to hold onto this projector for a few more years before we upgrade, honestly I still love it.
Thanks for the idea of the love seat recliner. I've been looking for seating ideas and this is a great one! I have set up a very small bedroom (9.5 feet wide by 13.5 feet deep) that used to be just a junk room with a 720p LED lit LCD Chinese no-brand-name projector I purchased directly from China via Aliexpress. It has integrated Android 4.2 with WiFi and actually produces a surprisingly good image. I am currently using an 80" Epson portable screen but plan on making my own 100" plus screen once I decide on which screen material to use. I have a large outdoor TV arial that can receive at least 16 digital OTA channels so I'm also attaching via HDMI an inexpensive digital tuner that additionally has HD-DVR capability with an attached USB hard drive (up to 2 gigs). I plan on uploading more videos of my setup after I add the larger screen and seating.
Tom Wiles Cool Tom, the love seat has been great for the kids. When my wife and I come in to watch something with the kids we have to bring chairs (the limited space of the 10' wide room, also being next to the door were limiting factors for extra seating). The room i have this in is also only 12' in length, so i think you will be happy with what you can get, and i think the added 1.5' will help you enjoy your movies even more either in a larger screen or just helping with a more natural viewing experience.
i hope more people see your video .and find out that it does note take a lot of money to go big. ....and don,t forget looking in pawn shops for hi end equipment..found lots there myself....spent less for my epson 8350 and elite 120 screen then i did for my 60 inch samsung hi end tv ......
+rogue warr Thanks. So few people have projectors, and most think they are really expensive. I would be hard pressed to ever go back to a regular flat screen for my movies and sporting events (heck and video games) after having this one.
I'm on the fence atm...pay $300 for a 55" TV or buy this little guy off craigslist for $300. My main usage for it will be gaming and movies. Thank you for the review, was a hell of a lot more helpful than most I have seen so far. Just curious how long did the bulb last and the cost to replace it?
Thats a tough call. I believe the projector is way more rewarding, but you have to figure out what to project it on then placement is another question, are you going to mount it from the ceiling or put it on a table. The tv is an easier solution, then with the projector being used on craigslist, you would want to really check it out before you buy. Also see how many hours on the bulb. We are still on the first bulb, its in a back bedroom. Either way you go you will be happy, just think about it. I think if you go eco on the playback you can get 6 or 7000 hours of viewing. You can find the bulbs on amazon, i want to say they are like 150 or so. Check, i could be quoting a little high.... Good Luck
Great video and exactly what I was looking for. I'm thinking about (need to convince the wife) building a home theater with a projector and screen in a spare bedroom that's 15 feet x 13' but I was concerned it would be too small for it. It looks like your spare bedroom is around the same size, so that makes me feel better. I was thinking about a 100 inch screen. I'm still doing a lot of research and trying to get as much knowledge as I can.
a 15x13 is a perfect size, and to me a large room. The room that i am using here is a 12x10. I would bet you will want to go larger than 100" when you do get this set up. What i would recommend to you in the mean time is go to this site, and find out how large your able to go, and what the sweet spot of the projector your thinking about getting is. www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm I am by no means an expert, but i would be glad to help if you have any questions...
Thanks for your reply and help. This is a bit overwhelming so I really appreciate your input. One question, will a white ceiling cause any reflection issues with the projector?
Ok here is one of those deals. If u get the room dark, u should have no issues. I have white trim and I never noticed it. However if it does bug u you can always paint it later. I made another video, I have a very bright projector, I found out I can see it well with the windows open in the middle of the day. Try it first and then make adjustments if u need to.
Pete I am very happy with mine. I originally was going to get a BenQ, but it was 100 bucks more at the time, or 150. I would recommend mine, a BenQ, Epson or Optoma. The wheel is a little better on the BenQ for the rainbow effect, but on mine now, i never notice it at all. I would look in the 500-700 range now if i was buying, 1080p, 2000 or so lumens, 3D, i would not be looking to make the jump to 4K yet until the prices really come down. When you find one your interested in, put it in google and read reviews. Thats what helped select mine.
+Christian Sandoval Right on. The sub that I have seems to shake the room enough. The thing is I'm the only one that likes the rumble. My wife and oddly my kids are always turning it down from where I have it set.
+willyc999 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IDC0K2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1yes Thats the mount, i had to cut on of the legs and trim it to fit, but its easy. To attach the mount to the ceiling, i went to home depot and got some wood and some screws. Its pretty easy, if you tell them at lowes or home depot they will have some options for you, or you could find a video on youtube im sure.
+StupeflixDnBMusic I found this on the net..."In addition, it is also equipped with True 24p feature. This means the projector can display a 1080p resolution image in 24 frames per second, for the same grand visual enjoyment as watching a movie in the theatre." www.hcinema.de/aufrufen.php?timeid=120904104809&sprache=englisch&kategorie= but there is a bunch of conflicting info, might be best to get in touch with Acer on this, because i saw others that said it projects @ 60 fps, so sorry i cant give you a great answer...
Yo man nice room setup I am thinking about doing a room like this. You said your room is 12x10 is your projector 12 ft away or 10 ft away from screen just wondering because I have the same dimension room as you
Agus Laya sainsonic zodiac 904 series 144hz. I'll be honest i still havent watched a 3d movie. Maybe one day but currently i dont like the whole wearing the glasses while watching a movie thing.
Calibration huh? Me I used the calibration for mine obtained from The Incredibles THX Optimizer tests contained in the movie DVD. I loaned it out to a few coworkers and they told me it made a good difference.
70velle2 Thanks! Did you wrap it over the edges so only 1 inch is on the front of the screen or is what is shown on the front the whole 2 inches of tape?
bodine1231 its a 12x10 room also. Go here www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm and make sure your projector would project that big of an image at that distance (not sure which one your going to buy). Also before you build your screen, or even order a screen, put the image on the wall and get an idea what you like best. One size doesnt fit everyone.
+Ben Rose it wont let me respond for whatever reason, i dont know about step by step, its was about 9 months ago that i did this, but i will take pictures and answer whatever questions that i can. Give me your email address and we will try to figure this thing out.
I want to explain 2 points. While to me it doesnt look as good as a really good flat screen in regards to colors (its as good in regard to resolution), it does look really good, especially when you get your room dark. The rainbow effect is not that big of a deal for us at all. I mostly see them with white on a black background, like writing, If i move my eyes for whatever reason off of the writing, or to the writing, sometimes i'll see a quick flash of the rainbow effect. Again, i'm not sure how sensitive i am to seeing them versus other people, but of the four people in our house, i see them more than anyone else. Overall, I am very happy with this projector and setup.
The reason you are seeing the RBE so much is that particular projector only has a 2x speed color wheel. If you are wanting to not see any RBE or far fewer of them, you really need a projector with at least a 4x or even better a 6x color wheel. Looking past the RBE, you have a nice setup and the picture looks great. Nice job.
astacy12 Yes the RBE is present for me, but not so much for others that come over and watch it. I was looking at the BenQ W1070 which has the faster wheel, but truth be told i wasnt going to pay the additional $130 at the time for it. I'm really happy with the acer, again the picture quality is much better than my phone camera was able to capture. Thanks for the comment.
just a FYI you should take your time to calibrate the projector in order to get the very best out of it because even this entry level one should rival most TVs you can look up how to calibrate vids on you tube
Looks, I just redid my man cave and got into projects as well, wish I would have seen this project, so far I have only got 2 different 720p projects, one is lamp power and one is led, but the picture is still pretty good at 100". I have built my own screens too, and now I have got into beta testing screen paints. So if you want to improve your screen and picture try some digital1crystal screen paint. Just paint if over your screen you made and be amazed. They have height screen gain to help with ambient light. Check out some of my videos and hope it helps improve your set up. Will make Super Bowl amazing for you. Also they make an wireless hdmi kit to transmit and review, don't know how far you are from your living room or and other cable box. And you get an hdmi switcher to run multiple hdmi inputs
Thanks, my first comment! I dont think you will have any problem with 720 at all. I was debating a different acer that was 720 p to save some bucks. The xbox 360 games are 720p and they look great at 129", The only thing i dont like is watching dvds at 480 on the screen (although watching saving private ryan was kind of cool cuz it gave it that old grainy look). I would be interested in the paint your talking about. Where do you get the digital1crystal paint at? What color do you use? how many coats do you use? I put a cable box in the room, so now we have a digital image, and i think those come in at 720p from media com and they look good. Thanks again for your comment, looking forward to your answers on the paint, i'll give it a try if you think it will be even better than what i have.

+Fyah Blass Thanks Fyah, I figured it out shortly after I made the video. I ran a 25 ft hdmi from the receiver to the projector, and I have all my inputs going to the receiver. I got a cable box plugged into it, and now it works great. Thanks Bud
