We do it basically the same up here. Union plumbers up here are required to learn and master every aspect of plumbing, as well as fitting, and welding. I'm a service plumber but also do HVAC and Refrigeration service as well. We have to be extremely well rounded up here as we do not have as much manpower to specialize
union lets you guys do house plumbing as well as fitting and pipe welding? down here pipe fitters and welders , kind of clash with plumbers. also Your U.A. card either lists you as a plumber or steam fitter and it can be difficult to go on a job that dosent match what your "book occupation " is.
Yeah I'm born and raised in Anchorage and I was scratching my head with the expansion tank. Maybe cause we don't run as high of pressure in Alaska?🤷🏾♂️
if you have a closed system, such as a check valve, backflow or PRV, you'll need an expansion tank for thermo expansion. Here in California, under the UPC, water pressure above 80 psi needs to be reduced.@@alaska79

It was all done correctly. It's code in California you have to use flex lines because of the earthquakes. And the vent is code in most states because it's rated for water heaters, they sell them at home Depot for like $50 - $60 dollars. I live in Pennsylvania so I use solid copper for everything and rigid vent, but I have used those flexible vents before ( the ones rated for water heaters and boilers ). And I use solid copper for the expansion tank. But he used stainless steel, he didn't use galvanized.
Unsupported expansion tank? When the membrane fails (and is a when, not an if) - that tank can fill with 3 gallons of water or so. That is about 10kg of weight sitting on the end of an unsupported pipe. Are you sure it can take it?
@@replumb ok, I am not high on gallons and other ancient units. But the point is the same - that is about 7 kg of unsupported weight pressing down on that lever of a pipe in case of failure.
Where does that T&P release pipe drain to? Also, ive seen peole put a valve on the hot water side too, so that you can turn off the water and change stuff out without having to completely drain all of the pipes.
Hey boss, love your videos. Have a good question for you, Can you do a tutorial on how you put the waterheater on your dolly with the strap around the gas valve? Thanks a billion.
this looks like a very popular water heater type in California. I am from Europe Don't you use any kind of combi heater there? I mean what we use here is the Combi equipment that does apartment heating and and water heating in the same appliance with a built-in switch valve and a similar water tank is under the appliance with a water pipe coil in it for heating ie water heats water but in a closed space and when it is ready it switches back to hitting the apartment. or you don't need heating in California at all? our tank is usually 120 litres this gray type looks very professional I guess it at least 200 liters
Your pool noodles covered up gas connection; in CA is supposed to be valve, sediment trap then flex connector, right? Also, why no flex connector on t&p valve drain line so next guy won't need to solder anything? (Voice)
I completely understand that it takes more time and time is very precious but is there a chance we could get longer content.. I really enjoy your commentary. I think most of us are here because of that. Some obviously come to bitch but others come just for your personality. Maybe you aren’t interested in that and that’s ok but I was just wondering. Have a blessed one.
I keep telling myself that I’m going to devote more time to long form videos. But like you said it takes a lot more time to edit and make them entertaining
I like the install but got worried when i seen you un sweat the tee for the expansion tank. technically you did alright but it can be always be done better depending on the clients budget. the right way is to use the adequate expansion tank strap system, tee in copper pipe with 6"' brass nipple and isolation valve, male adapters and flex lines and single wall stainless steel venting or double wall to attach to existing pipework, earthquake straps withing top 12'' and bottom 24'' and lastly T&P relief valve within 6-8 inches of the graded floor leading towards a drain. not every situation can accommodate these rules so it depends on the technician and the property owner to work out the kinks beforehand.
The lure of these types of videos is the feeling of "Gee, I could do this myself, also." In the end , the practical person realizes that it's best to have a tradesman with the experience, tools , and wherewithal perform the service.😮
Watching your vids help me feel a bit more comfortable with understanding what to do, because I don’t know shit and was never taught a damn thing.. you should make a video on fixing a rocky toilet! Mine randomly feels like it moves.. T_T
Expansion tank isnt high enough, failed installation, and theres a reason you can hook an air pump to the tank, because it needs to be set at proper psi, not just whatever it comes at, otherwise it serves no purpose
It's California alright, just like the rest of the state worthless. Flex connections are a joke, yeah I'm sure they'll hold in an earthquake.....hahahhaha
Spotted: crimpy tool, solder, threaded pipe, saw tool, fancy wrench, weird CA-specific plumbing nonsense. Still nothing for the bread demographic though so gotta kick you offa my job site.

In Juneau Alaska we use electric water heaters, sitting on a concrete floor in a garage with earthquake straps. No expansion tank required. Cheers!
Thanks brother

Damn
I gotta get my hands on one those pipe wrenches
I’m going to need you to do the “hey boy” voice for an entire video…. Let’s make that happen.
Looks like you got your wish 😂😂
Awesome wrench 🔧
What’s your favorite pipe wrench? Standard old school, Swedish, or this rapidgrip style?
Where does that T&P release pipe drain to?
Also, ive seen peole put a valve on the hot water side too, so that you can turn off the water and change stuff out without having to completely drain all of the pipes.
Don't worry homeboy even on the east coast you still do a good job
I’m from a Maryland and currently working in Flordia we use flex flu pipes on gas as well
So do you still have any use for traditional 18” pipe wrenches?
Subbed because I love how you troll the ones that think that you don't know. Keep up the fun work
Im curious as to why you dont install a drip pan especially when on a drywalled raised platform.
There is a pan beneath the new unit
Did you put your finger over the gas pipe? I never seen that before
I used shark bit fittings, was way easier IMO.
You're videos rock!
So enjoy your videos. I'm sure you've posted a link for all your tools but could you send that out again please. Thank you
I'd really like to see your setup for getting the water heater off the stand.
What’s the clip spacing standards for 3/4 copper in the states ? Would not be compliant here
Every 4 feet

no threaded connections (other than the TPRV thread) are allowed on the piping, to prevent easy access to plug or cap.
