I think I get the logic behind the game: It's designed to give someone with ADHD a steady dopamine boost through stimulation. It doesn't "cure" anything, what it does is basically soothe the ache, if you will. It's like an icepack for the brain.
Definitely, however according to some of their studies, they claimed that certain individuals were completely “symptom free” after a trial period (whatever that means). So are they claiming that it 100% “cures” ADHD? No. But there’s something to be said about the fact that they advertise even a POTENTIAL for that outcome, in my opinion.

Funnily enough adhd is caused due to the brain not recieving enough dopamine due to dulled receptors so that is why the attention span is soo low, because we are constantly looking for ways to boost dopamine. Thats why people with adhd hyperfixate, because the dopamine intake can be a lot to someone who isnt normally recieving it, it would normally cause someone to fixate on that source, especially if the body feels deprived. So theoretically a videogame could be used to treat adhd, but it seems to be heavily individualistic and not necessarily for everyone as we all have different interests and ticks.

The improvement in the test was probably due to the effects of practice. Most of the time, doing the same test more than once will see improved scores. To improve this experiment, one would have to try to eliminate other contributing factors so the only thing that changes is the game. In a real study, they would have a control group for this reason. -Group A takes the test, spends a week playing this game, then retakes the test. Record their improvement score. - Group B takes the test, spends a week playing Subway Surfers, the takes the test again. Compair their improvement score to the group A. Did the specialized game help, or is a level of improvement to be expected regardless? Since you only have one test subject, I would've done the test a bunch of times before adding the game, so you could forcast the expected level of improvement and compare it to the reality. If you usally improved 10% per try, and after trying the game your improvement rate went up to 30%, that would imply the game helped in some way. If you continued to improve along the predicted pattern, you could conclude the game didn't contribute much to the results.
I feel like a true test would be to try the test again after not playing the game for a week and see how your score changes. You said yourself that you weren't even really trying the first time you took it, and that can skew the results. You don't want to give credit to the app for something that could just have been you putting in more effort.
I once took an IQ test that was very similar to this. When I wasn't trying, my IQ was considered so low it broke the test. After forcing myself to focus and frying my brain I was able to get 97... IQ tests don't really take ADHD into account.
I've gotten ads for this game before and I'm glad someone made a video on it because I was curious. Andy's also how I learned about Caveman Hikes and that weird ass Walt Disney movie.
If this is what a game that cures your adhd looks like and how it engages your brain i'm gonna be soooo neurotypical once I get better at touhou project lol. Why pay 100$ a year for this when I can just play more touhou for 15$ and get an even bigger challenge to my ability to focus. For even cheaper, I could play some cool math games. Papa's pizzeria here I come! Leveling up my multitasking
Fun fact: I also have ADHD and took the Lab In The Wild test once Andy mentioned it because I wanted to see what I got before him. I haven't finished the segment but apparently, my attention improved more when I had more symbols to memorize. According to them, this is very unusual. So apparently, I am "immune to the bad effects of multitasking". Update: I think they lied, we got the same feedback and I know for a fact I did better than him. Graah
You having ADHD makes sense as to why you are my comfort channel.🤣🤣🤣 Between the chaotic editing choices and having no filter, I resonate with it heavily. Though I struggle with hyperactivity, mania related.
Watching Andy play this game gave me 2nd-hand anxiety, some weird vicarious desire for him to "beat" it, plus a feeling I'd probably be extremely bad at it. Thanks for the anxiety-dream inspo, Andy!

@@Kit___Cat It may have been cuz I already had one kid diagnosed before and he was VERY obvious. The teachers for my other kid just filled out a form that listed different symptoms and I gave it to their pediatrician. It may vary by state and doctor. I'm assuming I just got very lucky.

I honestly find my focus can only improve if I use zen style games or wear headphones while listening children's stories. Essentially something that doesn't need thought and can drone in the background.
As a school psychologist I can almost guarantee that the improved score is due to practice effects from taking the same test twice in a week, not the game itself. When going back for the post-test you already knew about the rules and had different expectations. In my professional opinion an app like this is a complete scam. Interesting video, just thought I'd share that! :)
Oooh! I have an important note for a school psychologist. Recent (robust) studies have found 60-70% of adults with ADHD have Delayed Sleep/Wake Phase Syndrome. Teenagers often have a similar effect during puberty, but it goes away. Seasonal depression lamp therapy in the morning will help students regulate their sleep cycle (specifically neurodivergent kids, but it could help all teens struggling with a messed up circadian rhythm. Not sure). The other steps are having good sleep hygiene, and even getting smart lightbulbs that turn on to help them wake up, and dim closer to bedtime to signal it's time to wind down. I have both of these things and Narcolepsy with Cataplexy so I've looked a lot into the sleep science research coming out. It's literally life changing. Especially the sun lamp therapy
Did they just not make it easier on the last day of the free trial so you wouldn't get fed up and call it a scam? And for those that are gullible and would be willing to buy this would also see "some improvement" and then actually buy the game? Or am I seein sh*t?
I get ads for so many apps targeted towards ADHD, and every single one has the free trial crap. It's obviously preying on the fact that ADHDers always forget to cancel, and we're more likely to spend a ton of time sucked into a game
I've definitely shown ADHD symptoms since young (always had a hard time staying awake in class even in the afternoon sometimes even though I WOULD sleep, just not restfully. Sometimes I just couldn't focus or intake information.) My folks just assumed I was rebelling and getting old and big for my britches but nah it turns out being unable to comprehend reading is not a sign of puberty, shock horror.
You know what's not terrible at all? Intentionally targeting ADHD people with a monthly billing subscription because you know they are less likely to remember to cancel it. Brilliant.
Imagine u walk into a new gym, there is a dude moaning on one corner and this weird man walking and running more focused on his phone than a ipad kid, every so often he almost falls off the thing but does he put the phone down? NEVER! 😂
0:43 for my adhd diagnosis I had to answer a bunch of questions about my habits and for my autism diagnosis I had to spit in a tube and had to have a brain cap thing on 😭💀
The problem with this theory is the fact that people with ADHD (I am one of them) hyper focus on certain things as well as the fact that it’s caused by chemical imbalances in your brain. So this is just creating a hyper focus on the game, it’s not curing your dopamine deficiency or allowing your focus to span out across your daily life.
Have you considered that you may have improved at the memory test the second time because, by virtue of doing it the first time, you had spent time learning how it works and practicing it? This is something you have to account for in science when administering the same test repeatedly, people do tend to improve with exposure.
i feel like trying to multitask is the opposite of how u help someone with adhd :/ wouldn’t you want to encourage them to focus on one quality task at a time ??
the funny thing is, i'm sure any fast paced game can accomplish what this game does what they're doing is giving u multiple things to focus on at once, to help ur reaction time, memory, and of course ur focus skills, which a majority of games already do unintentionally in splatoon's turf war mode, for example, u need to focus on -teammates -opponents -ink/ammo -location -when and where to use subs + specials and those are only scratching the surface! i think a mobile game doing what 90% of video games as a whole do but putting a suspiciously secret paywall and the guarantee of curing adhd, is actually insane, a bit lazy even. it feels like a cash grab
literally go grab any game u have and boot it up, ask urself "how many things do i have to pay consistent attention to?" and if it's more than 2, booyah! ur getting exactly what u would by playing this adhd app
Video games actually do help me with my adhd but only because I use it to create positive associations and I utilize games with loading screens and cutscenes I've already seen before (when replaying a game I've played before) to do other stuff like homework (when I was taking classes) or reading or writing or other hobbies that I have difficulty doing on their own. Though medication has worked relatively well for me (doesn't solve all my problems but helps with energy and motivation since I get a lot of fatigue from my adhd) and using video games this way works best for me when I'm medicated.
11:37 I have it like that too, if I focus too hard I will get stuck overthinking everything, I've found that having music in the background makes it much easier for me cuz I can put my thoughts somewhere else and stop overthinking all the time
Holy shit, that might be worse than a professional telling me my ADHD would get better if I completed a major project…. I had no ‘major’ projects and…..what????
Good news: I no longer have adhd school is easier! Bad news: I still have autism and bipolar and have less of an idea of how to function GIMME BACK MY ADHD

I was diagnosed as an adult. I was sent assessments that I had to complete and someone that knew me as a child also had to complete. They were sent by USPS and I had to return them that way. It took me like 3.5 months to get it done. Loved that the assessment was designed in like the worst possible way for someone with ADHD to complete.
its honestly kind of reassuring to hear another person with adhd who tried all the meds but none worked, whenever i tell people that they question whether i actually have adhd at all even though im diagnosed and everything
I'm actually freaky good at retaining certain information. For example: The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell 😎 (Also please, Andy tell me where you got that skeleton hat i love it so much)
It sounds lame but 15 minutes of "silently counting as high as I can with my eyes closed" gradually helped with daily focus. I could only get to like 20 before my attention scattered and lost count, but I could actually track progress as I reached higher counts
i was gonna say the beginning of this video made me happy that my parents decided to forget i have adhd but then i remembered i played a game that was about Actively Meditating while institutionalized as a teen and it sucked so much
Did anyone end up finding an alternative to that game. I do think from the concept that it could help since you're training yourself to ignore distractiong (like the red elephant). But that price tag is ridiculous.
This was an interesting watch because I’ve been getting this ad constantly and I’ve watched it’s rating drop from like 4.8 stars to 4.2. It’s really fascinating to find out that it helped you though.
I feel like playing normal video games does mostly the same thing already. Testing your ability to focus and simple puzzles and memory tests, basically every skill being tested by this mobile game is tested to an equal or greater degree by, for example, the re4 remake. Reflexes, multitasking and split second decision making are tested all at once in combat, the puzzles mostly test pattern recognition and new game plus heavily rewards having a good memory. I guarantee playing sekiro has improved my ability to focus more than a bad temple run clone ever could.
I have ADHD and when I saw that ad for the mobile game, all it did was confuse me and hurt my brain with all the flashing stuff all at once. Didn't play it, obviously. Also there's no "cure" for ADHD, and it's stupid when games claim that it can cure stuff like that. It's only a whole bunch of bait for people who are desperate, gullible, and willing to pay for their wild subscriptions.

Theres also lobotomy corporation which even with cheats makes me MURDEROUS. Also contains a built in adhd simulator (malkuth supression)
Four monitor that shit bro, every papa game
@@lucas23453including the platformers
"This game is hard."
"Maybe if you have ADHD."
Yeah, that checks out
Andy: "I have ADHD"
Also Andy: "I don't understand why I can't remember these codes!"
Though I struggle with hyperactivity, mania related.
theyre absolutely hoping that ppl with adhd will just forget to cancel the subscription
i’ve gotten this ad so many times but my adhd wouldn’t let me watch past 5 seconds.
Watching Andy play this game gave me 2nd-hand anxiety, some weird vicarious desire for him to "beat" it, plus a feeling I'd probably be extremely bad at it. Thanks for the anxiety-dream inspo, Andy!
i’m gonna go back to my brain training with dr kawashima on my 2008 nintendo DS
OMG I kinda miss that one I was convinced it would make me smarter when I was like 10
I was only diagnosed this year (25 yrs old) and I can’t believe it took so long!! When I watch Netflix/RUclips I also have to be scrolling on social media or playing a game😂 my brain needs so much stimulation
I was diagnosed with adhd and I never got to play a game😭 I was scammed all I did was go to a room with an old man and was bribed to do math questions for m&ms and write paragraphs every Saturday for the summer 💀 like there was an option to play a game?😭😭
That's so weird, when I got my kids diagnosed, I literally just told them Im pretty sure they have it, and the doctor just went "Yep, looks like it" and wrote a prescription. Oddly, the easiest diagnosis I've ever gotten.
@@AshChiCupcak really? That’s surprising I have never hear of that happening I always thought you had to go to a specialist to get diagnosed? But that’s super interesting it might just be because of how bad my adhd is though so it might have been incredibly visual and expressed through body language for your kids? Idk how the process works
@@Kit___Cat It may have been cuz I already had one kid diagnosed before and he was VERY obvious. The teachers for my other kid just filled out a form that listed different symptoms and I gave it to their pediatrician. It may vary by state and doctor. I'm assuming I just got very lucky.
@@AshChiCupcak thats litterally exactly how i was diognosed, although it was also because i had covid and had to do a phonr interview instead of in person
@@Kit___Catit's part of the reason why in the early 90's it was really easily misdiagnosed.
At the first ad break in the video I literally got an ad for this game
I honestly find my focus can only improve if I use zen style games or wear headphones while listening children's stories. Essentially something that doesn't need thought and can drone in the background.
Duuude you got the multiverse
It made me happy to see so many people I like in one video❤
Andy has does it! He cured my ADHD? WAIT I HAVE ADHD? ANDY you did it again!
When I was diagnosed I didn't play a game! I was fiddling with blocks when the doctor told my mom I had ADHD and put me on Ritalin
Vigilance is just focus. You're looking for vengeance🦇
“Guess who just found out what vigilance means” had me CACKLING
How very ADHD of him to misremember. I feel like I've seen several ADHD people do something like that plenty
NEVER! 😂
0:43 for my adhd diagnosis I had to answer a bunch of questions about my habits and for my autism diagnosis I had to spit in a tube and had to have a brain cap thing on 😭💀
I feel so bad, cause my sister told my dad about this and was super excited but now i can see its just a total scam
No? Why would you do that. That wouldn’t change anything, we need multiple tasks for dopamine
i literally got an ad for this damn game before this video
5:06 There's vigilance and there's vengeance, Andy 😭
I think it's a bit ironic that, due to my ADHD, it took me 7 hours to watch this video Edit: AND I forgot that I already commented good lord
Thank josh for that stupid subscription price because I’d be playing this shit daily
the funny thing is, i'm sure any fast paced game can accomplish what this game does
what they're doing is giving u multiple things to focus on at once, to help ur reaction time, memory, and of course ur focus skills, which a majority of games already do unintentionally
in splatoon's turf war mode, for example, u need to focus on
-teammates
-opponents
-ink/ammo
-location
-when and where to use subs + specials
and those are only scratching the surface!
i think a mobile game doing what 90% of video games as a whole do but putting a suspiciously secret paywall and the guarantee of curing adhd, is actually insane, a bit lazy even. it feels like a cash grab
literally go grab any game u have and boot it up, ask urself
"how many things do i have to pay consistent attention to?"
and if it's more than 2, booyah! ur getting exactly what u would by playing this adhd app
I have never been so stressed while watching one of your videos
Video games actually do help me with my adhd but only because I use it to create positive associations and I utilize games with loading screens and cutscenes I've already seen before (when replaying a game I've played before) to do other stuff like homework (when I was taking classes) or reading or writing or other hobbies that I have difficulty doing on their own. Though medication has worked relatively well for me (doesn't solve all my problems but helps with energy and motivation since I get a lot of fatigue from my adhd) and using video games this way works best for me when I'm medicated.
Comment section realizing every one of andys subscribers are ahdh and his content/editing style feeds our brains
Damn Andy called in the whole A - Team for this one. Hell yeah
11:37 I have it like that too, if I focus too hard I will get stuck overthinking everything, I've found that having music in the background makes it much easier for me cuz I can put my thoughts somewhere else and stop overthinking all the time
My GP legit just recommended I set a million alarms on my phone to remind myself to do stuff and I was like dr I simply cannot imagine a worse hell
Holy shit, that might be worse than a professional telling me my ADHD would get better if I completed a major project…. I had no ‘major’ projects and…..what????
Omg I’ve had that ad 100’s of times 😭 it looked so weird and I was so confused by it-
This video finally gave me the courage to self-undiagnose. I am cured! Thank you so much Andy!
Good news: I no longer have adhd school is easier! Bad news: I still have autism and bipolar and have less of an idea of how to function GIMME BACK MY ADHD
This was extremely interesting and it's awesome to see you make a video from such a personal place.
As a fellow adhd fuck, I really hope to see more stuff like this from you in the future. The group test, the hypothesis.... this was so well put together and you kept all your humour and charm
Rock on, man 🤘
Game-changing ADHD treatment for adults online already exists. It's called Oldschool Runescape.
I was diagnosed as an adult. I was sent assessments that I had to complete and someone that knew me as a child also had to complete. They were sent by USPS and I had to return them that way. It took me like 3.5 months to get it done. Loved that the assessment was designed in like the worst possible way for someone with ADHD to complete.
its honestly kind of reassuring to hear another person with adhd who tried all the meds but none worked, whenever i tell people that they question whether i actually have adhd at all even though im diagnosed and everything
i hear this is the greatest video of all time
I'm actually freaky good at retaining certain information. For example:
The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell 😎
(Also please, Andy tell me where you got that skeleton hat i love it so much)
It sounds lame but 15 minutes of "silently counting as high as I can with my eyes closed" gradually helped with daily focus. I could only get to like 20 before my attention scattered and lost count, but I could actually track progress as I reached higher counts
i was gonna say the beginning of this video made me happy that my parents decided to forget i have adhd but then i remembered i played a game that was about Actively Meditating while institutionalized as a teen and it sucked so much
I fix my adhd by watching a video while playing a game while writing code while thinking about all the homework I have to do but won’t
Did anyone end up finding an alternative to that game. I do think from the concept that it could help since you're training yourself to ignore distractiong (like the red elephant). But that price tag is ridiculous.
Any runner game.
Honestly Subway Surfers is kinda nice for my adhd lol
As someone with Adhd I play music to focus and then become overly productive.
This was an interesting watch because I’ve been getting this ad constantly and I’ve watched it’s rating drop from like 4.8 stars to 4.2. It’s really fascinating to find out that it helped you though.
adhd cured after 20 years, thanks king
one of my fav videos of yours. i love shit like this. keep it up!
I made it five minutes into this video. And about 15 minutes into the video I realized I had stopped paying attention. I'm pretty sure I have ADHD
Andy you just unlocked a core memory for me with that spaceship game screenshot
I feel like playing normal video games does mostly the same thing already. Testing your ability to focus and simple puzzles and memory tests, basically every skill being tested by this mobile game is tested to an equal or greater degree by, for example, the re4 remake. Reflexes, multitasking and split second decision making are tested all at once in combat, the puzzles mostly test pattern recognition and new game plus heavily rewards having a good memory. I guarantee playing sekiro has improved my ability to focus more than a bad temple run clone ever could.
Inwas diagnosed at 9, and bless my momma she went to every appointment, learned everything ahe could. Shes supported me my whole life.
wait, games that require a lot of multitasking cure adhd? *loads up fnaf 2 cutely*
I read this as “Can this phone game cure my dad?”
FINALLY! THE MISSING LINK!
I was puzzled why you kept showing up in my recs. So once you hit a topic of interest, I gave it a whirl. You're no Gabbi, but I'll click whenever you cover something that coincidentally tickles the fancy of someone in his 40s.
why can i just run around until i pass out
Day 4: Where Andy accidentally unlocks coping skills
Bro got to play a video game but I had to do a math test for my diagnosis 😭
The woman at the gym in the mirror watching him do this is cracking me up
omg I scrolled through all the comments looking for someone mention this! I couldn’t tell if she was real because she never moved, I think it’s a picture on the wall??
I always knew that you were one of us. Stay strong, brotha
What a crossover episode
OH MY GOD THE PICTURE OF THAT SPACESHIP GAME BROUGHT BACK SEALED MEMORIES FROM MY CORE BEING
