You are listening to my favorite Herbie album. Very impressed with the Martin Denny pressings. Did Jackpot reissue all three of them? I did not know that Gandalf released another album last year. The debut album was sort of a staple in the Vc early on. Not an easy album to find anymore cheap. A nice variety Randy. Thanks for sharing them~

Yep, all three of the Denny records are new Jackpot re-issues. I got them as a pre-sale bundle; I sort of looked at it as getting a three-record or box set. That Gandalf album has turned out to be a pleasant surprise; for some reason I wasn't expecting too much, but the record has exceeded expectations. Thanks for commenting Rob!

I was glad to find that Herbie record in the used bin. I guess it didn't appeal to someone - I can't imagine why. Thanks for commenting George!

I really wish I had waited to get Gandalf until that RSD version came out. I'm almost tempted to go ahead and get it now because of the inner sleeve with info and the green vinyl. But I'm not going to do that. lol I'm with ya on Herbie. Thanks for commenting Zonkman!

Great finds. I need to get back on Jackpot Records email list as I have bought a couple of Denny albums in the past. So many of his albums are in terrible condition when you find them in the wild. They had a reissue of that debut Gandalf record for RSD that sold out quickly. I have not heard of MF Doom.

I've got a few original Denny records that are in pretty good shape, but I really like having the new, pristine album jackets. I would have liked to have gotten a copy of that RSD Gandalf but it was gone by the time I got there. Not certain I would have gotten it though, since I already had a copy. I've been a little surprised at learning how many of us oldsters in the vinyl community like hip hop, but I guess it makes sense, as hip hop was forming and becoming popular when we were in our early twenties. I hadn't heard MF Doom before this record - I took a break from hip hop for probably about 20 years. lol Thanks for commenting Randy!

Hi Randy - You get even more points for very diverse pickups! I have some Of Montreal. When I heard that they are not from Montreal, I felt cheated 🙂I only have one Herbie CD (Headhunter); I should have more! I have heard nothing from MF Doom!

Yeah, it's kind of like false advertising with Of Montreal. Athens GA is definitely not Montreal. Herbie's great; Headhunters is from his later period when he had a fusion band, the record I showed here is piano with rhythm section only. He pulls both off pretty well. I had never heard of MF Doom until recently, when I saw the re-issued album. That album cover is very eye-catching. I streamed it on RUclips music before buying though. Just to make sure I'd like it. I may like streaming better for this album - as noted in the video, the last two album sides are pretty short. Thanks for commenting ER!

Not a lot of people show Herbie, nice pick up. Great Martin Denny pick ups.

Here's some video of Herbie jamming with Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead. ruclips.net/video/UplrQPVex6o/видео.htmlsi=SfwycaPPvEcUJZmL
It's not the best recording quality but just check out the scenery at that venue. I'm a big Martin Denny fan - I wonder if he made a Christmas album? I need to check on that. Thanks for commenting Don!

I have to say that I don't have a favorite Herbie album because I love so many of his titles. I think it's fair to say that Herbie is as important as Miles and one of our greatest living jazz musicians.

ha ha....that is a bold statement that we could discuss for hours. Herbie is pretty awesome, particularly the way he transitioned to electric keyboards. I'm going to give some thought to his legacy vs Miles. Thanks for commenting Mark!

I'm intrigued by the Herbie. I'm gonna try it on CD, a 5 CD budget set

Five CDs of Herbie? That should satisfy your Hancock needs for a while, especially if it's a mix of acoustic and electric Herbie. Thanks for commenting Shawn!

I think Inventions and Dimensions is Herbie Hancock’s 3rd. I think Herbie Hancock is my favorite Jazz artist other than Miles. I thought about getting the Martin Denny records but I decided to pass. You peaked my interest with the MF Doom.

I was interested to note that the Metal Theologian focused on hip-hop last week. Evidently he has been listening to that genre recently. I have too. I haven't really listened to much hip-hop since 2003's OutKast album, so there's lots of stuff for me to catch up on. At a leisurely pace. Thanks for watching and commenting Vinyl Richie!

Vinyl Douche strikes again causing another person to spend money. I love the 60s Hancock albums. They are my favorite albums by him Randy. You will soon have the definitive Martin Denny collection!

ha ha....at 2-4 records a year for ten years Denny created a collection that provides lots of opportunities for additions. Sam has been causing monetary problems in the VC for years. He is powerful for sure. lol Thanks for commenting Steve!
