      False, a HM is a Hospital Corpsman. Other known as Medics/Doctors. Per submarine, there are usually one or two HMs on board to handle medical needs even though each department is cross-trained in each area that way god forbid something happens, someone can be called upon to handle a certain task. None of these clips are what you'll actually be doing for the most part. You will take chloride turbidities (the clip the showed was not a turbidity, seemed as if they just got some auxiliary mechanic to play with blue water and say they were testing it for chlorides) and oil samples sometimes. Anyways the point is that none of the job videos posted by the Navy shows you what you'll actually be doing. My advice, look into a job and try to find someone doing it to tell you what it's like.

    • @crxmanager
      @crxmanager 4 года назад +14

      We do, but it's rare. We were able to keep the ship on mission on my last deployment by making a pin for the main engine throttle controls on the lathe. Most maintenance and repairs won't require any type of actual machinist work. When the rate was named back in the day, there was a lot more machining going on.

      Nuclear officers have a different watch station. They are in charge of the whole reactor and steam plant and give orders and supervise other watchstanders. Enlisted, actually operate the equipment. Think of nuclear officers and like the captain in star trek but instead of commanding a ship they command the engine room/reactor

    • @getmeagator
      @getmeagator 2 года назад +1

      You are correct. They are not allowed to film in the propulsion main spaces, so filming in the diesel spaces and shaft alley is "close enough". The emergency diesels are maintained by Reactor Auxiliaries (RA division), which is a part of Reactor Department, but manned by Enginemen (non-nukes). Nuke MMs are found in Reactor Mechanical (RM), Reactor Propulsion (RP), Reactor Laboratories (RL), Reactor Training (RT), and Reactor DC (RXDC) divisions aboard a carrier.
