Great skills on the interviewer side. It reminds me of the RAF leadership interview series from the 1970s. A pleasure to listen to.

The Canadian documentary series "Jetstream" had a case of an excellent CF-18 pilot trainee that could not pick up the tactical aspect of the course. He was stellar in all other aspects and was given as many chances as they could give him, but eventually he washed out and had to be moved over to heavies.
So I think it is individual characteristic-based rather than on any changes to the pilot training system.

Well, WW part 4 is another winner, Steve. Was interesting to hear about the F-16CJ and it’s development and its role in Allied Force. Thanks to Flash for giving us some unique insights.

The story of Dog’s MiG29 kill at 57:19 is story of last flight of Lieutenant Colonel Milenko Pavlovic who was at that time commander of the 204. Lovački Avijacijski Puk (204.LAP, Fighter Air Regiment based at Military Airbase Batajnica. So basically Lt.Col. Pavlovic was at a lot of pressure from political idiots who wore at power at that time and they advocated that Yugoslavian Air Force need to fly more and get in fights even do that pilots wore flying on useless planes (old and out of resources also many of does plans wore broken). So Lt.Col. actually forced out of the plane younger officer that was to be scrabbled that day and fly into that fight alone. He was shot down over his home town Valjevo and aircraft was shot down with two AA missiles but he did not ejected from the plane. I don't know if he did not ejected on purpose or was trying to control airplane out off the city. After that encounter there wore no more fly's from Serbian in that time Yugoslavian Air Force any more. I still remember that day when Lt.Col. was shot down over city of Valjevo. When we saw airplane going down I remember crowd was cheering but after learning that it was our plane the whole fucking town was so eerily quiet and citizens of Valjevo are loud people. There wore a lot of story’s that Serbian Air defense got Lt.Col. shot down by mistake but this puts that story to the end. Thank you for sharing.

Po tebi bi najbolje bilo da su svi piloti seli u podrum i čekali da rat prođe?

I also read something similar, first he got shot by Serbian Air defense and additionally hit by the AMRAAM , now it is unclear if he actually evaded the air defense and got badly damaged in process which would make sense of his pattern of circular movement but then the AMRAAM finished him off . Now from US and Allied point of view its quite understandable to engage BVR as it was identified as MIG29 and the Radar doesn’t say "bad maintained, half broken MIG29”. So valid target and kill for the Viper.

Great episode and thanks Flash for all you have done. The tip to get onto your Discord thread was great too, it's an eye opener over there!

Enjoyed part 4 also. Particularly the parts where you talked about the initial training involved and the real weasel’s attitude towards the CJ guys. Cheers Steve

The air force should buy Boeing F18 2 seaters. The navy version of the "growler" and convert them to the weasel role. It's the perfect plane for that task.

The HTS pod is not interchangeable between the left and right hardpoint on the F-16CG or CJ. For a brief period, during the switch, it was interchangeable but now it is only capable of operating on the left hardpoint.

Does any of Weasel pilots knew about HARM that fall in Sofia city - the capital of Yugoslavian eastborder neighbor Republic of Bulgaria? Was that a Weasel shot or any "dumb" HARM from MArine, NAvy or Germany/Italy Tornados? Any idea what cause such a huge mishap?

There are no F-16s coded as F-16CM. The CM designation was created for technical orders when they combined the aircraft software of the Block 40 and 50. Common data was put into a single book labeled CM but unique items were still in books with the CG and CJ labels. The aircraft themselves are still coded CG and CJ.
