Judo in Kazakhstan celebrated a two Olympic judo medals by Yeldos Smetov who won silver and Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh who took bronze. In 2008 Askhat Zhitkeyev was the first Kazakh Olympic judo medallist. Judo Lightweight Yeldos Smetov became World Champion in 2015 in Astana in the final against Kazakh judoka Rustam Ibrayev. Maxim Rakov was World Champion in 2009 in Rotterdam. Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh and Asian Champion Marian Urdabayeva are the big female judoka. The Kazach Judo Federation organised the World Championships in 2015 in Astana and in 2012 the IJF World Masters were held in Almaty. Each year the IJF Grand Prix is held in Astana or Almaty.
Yeldos Smetov of Kazakhstan became 2015 World Champion at home in Astana against Rustam Ibrayev. He took bronze at the 2019 Worlds in Tokyo. Smetov took the World Junior title in 2010 in Agadir. In 2016 he won silver at the Grand Prix Düsseldorf. Olympic silver medallist in 2016 in Rio. He won the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2018. He took bronze at the 2018 World Masters in Guangzhou. He took silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2019 and won the Grand Prix in Antalya and Budapest 2019.
Kazakh judoka Yerlan Serikzhanov won silver at the World Championships in Baku in 2018. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Tunis in 2018. He clinched a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Marrakech in 2019. He clinched a gold medal at the Asian Pacific Championships in Fujairah in 2019. He took a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv in 2020.
Kazakh judoka Zhansay Smagulov captured gold at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2017. He won the Grand Prix of Budapest in 2015, his biggest international victory. Although he won silver at the Grand Prix Astana in 2014. He took bronze at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2016 and 2017. He won the European Cup in Saarbrücken in 2017. He won the Grand Prix in Tunis in 2018. He took silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2020.
Kazach judoka Didar Khamza took the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Zagreb in 2017. He won a bronze medal at the World Cadet Championships in 2013. He won a bronze medal at the European Cup in Orenburg in 2015. In 2016 he broke through with the victory at the European Open in Oberwart and bronze at the Grand Prix in Almaty. Khamza won the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2018.
Islam Bozbayev of Kazakhstan took gold at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. He also won the Grand Prix in Almaty in 2013 and 2011. He won Grand Slam medals in Moscow and Tokyo. He competed at the Olympic Games in London (9th) and various World Championships U81 and U90kg. He took bronze at the Asian Games in 2010. He won the Grand Prix in Tunis in 2018. He took bronze at the 2018 World Masters in Guangzhou. He took silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2019.
