Th direction he is facing at the final shot, when he smiles, is the dirt road leading to the woman's house. I always took it to mean he was going back to her house.

For me, this is one of Tom Hanks best performances. When I saw the ending, I thought to myself ‘he’s lost again’ cause he’s at that four way stop

funny. In my opinion..He's not lost he's at the end of a journey, his life is irrevocably changed and he's a very different person than he was.
At the beginning of the movie he was a demanding workaholic with a failing relationship due to his unacceptable work life balance. (watch him and Kelly close...she already was cheating and planning the breakup...there a bunch of clues) He's oblivious of anything but his job, time, and the illusion of a life he has.
At the end of this movie.he has unlearned/lost these traits. 4 years alone taught him how meaningless all of these concepts are. and how you cannot prepare for the unknown.
At the end...this brand new person has cast off all of his old life, all his old expectations and plans, and as he stands there, completely free, and happy, he contemplates the best way to start a brand new life. and his eyes drift back to the Sculptors farm...

No control on the island? Not true, he gets to decide how Wilson looks, thinks, feels and says.

He did go back, he's looking at the audience and looking towards the direction of the truck. Solved this years ago lol.

Did I say ending “solved?” And just because he’s looking that direction doesn’t necessarily mean he went back, but like I said in the video I believe he did.

@@deaninreallife ño I said solved. Also its no explanation, its a theory. As far as going back, he 100 percent does as been discussed by the director. As I said all solved years ago.
