Well, we can think like this. Super human acrobatic stunts, Jackie is king, no wire, no stunt double, just him and his stunt team working together. Meanwhile, athletic stunts are where TC’s stuff. Plane, diving, sprinting, etc. TC still requires safety wire when jump between building whereas Jackie does not. But that stunt of Burj Khalifa building is nut so TC is really CGI - Cruise Going Insane.
Still not worth idolizing him though.

When the commercial of a film is actual behind the scenes footage from the filming, the film must be EPIC.
Actually, the opposite is true.
Cruise and McQuarrie are so fixated on the stunts that they then struggle to construct a satisfying, believable story to string them together. That makes for a disappointing movie overall.
The last time they got it right was Fallout, which is terrific. By comparison Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning, while often spectacular, are a hot mess.
The drawcard stunts and their behind-the-scenes footage are the commercial, purely marketing for press and talk show anecdotes. Instead of supporting the story, the story is written to link the stunts. What you end up seeing of the stunt in the movie is mostly CG.
They did the same for Top Gun: Maverick. Behind the scenes of the actors actually flying in fighter jets. The G-force you see on their faces is real.
However, you gotta be a certain kind of crazy to pull a stunt like this. Burning your parachute in mid flight? You better hope your backup not only works, but it doesn't catch fire too. 🤯
@Miked1332they did indeed do a lot of "real" stuff for Top Gun: Maverick - but as with the Mission: Impossible movies, I'd argue that was as much about generating marketing hype as it was actually improving the movie.
The wording in the BTS shorts was carefully designed to let you think the actors might have been piloting the jets themselves, which of course would have been preposterous. Also, despite Cruise's insistence ahead of time that there would be "no CGI on the jets", a lot of the planes in Top Gun: Maverick are pure CGI. There's nothing wrong with this, of course - I just wish they'd be more honest about it.
@Miked1332regarding Cruise's stunt with the burning parachute, while I wouldn't do it myself it's nothing new. Decades ago some skydivers were setting fire to their main canopies, usually by firing a flare gun at them, just to show off.
Cruise isn't in a lot of danger during that stunt. He's wearing a standard parachute rig that itself contains a main and reserve parachute, so the one that is set on fire - which you'll see is stowed inside the helicopter rather than being packed into his rig - is actually a _third_ parachute, and thus completely superfluous except as a prop.
I'm very curious to know what was the mechanism for igniting that canopy, though!

Cruise credits his stunt crew, yes.
But tucked away in the end credits of movies like this and Top Gun: Maverick are the names of the many, many technicians that produce the VFX. These movies are chock-full of visual effects shots, including plenty of use of CGI, but the work of the people who produce them is played down. Why? Because it doesn't fit the spurious narrative of everything being done in-camera.
If you watch VFX breakdowns of Top Gun: Maverick in particular, you'll see that an awful lot of the planes in that movie - perhaps most of them - are not real. That you cannot tell is a testament to the skill and dedication of the VFX artists, but they are not publicly acknowledged because the extent of their contribution is a dirty secret.
