I'm glad I'm not the only one that also hates playing the piano. I wanted to play the songs I enjoyed listening to and learn the basics and just play what I wanted to play, but my mom and my teacher were like You have all this piano homework due in all week and do one line at a time and this and that and I just wanted to die. I never asked for all this homework and I never wanted to play classical music I just wanted to play my favorite songs and chill. My mom won't let me quit because she says it'll make me smarter and I'll get better scholarships but I don't care about that stuff and now I regret saying I wanted to play piano again. I don't know what else to say I just wanted to play the songs I wanted to play but my mom ruined the piano for me and now I don't even want to touch it anymore. This is how to make someone like me lose their sanity.

10 years ago I was 5, my parents wanted me to try piano, been playing ever since. Honestly I've enjoyed it plenty. However, recently I've hit rock bottom. I feel like I can't play, I can never play piano to my own expectations. Even playing the minute waltz, I feel so slugish. Recently, I've just been getting really depressed over piano. I seriously feel I should quit, but I don't want to throw away these past 10 years of piano. However nowadays, piano does nothing but brings me down, making me depressed, and it feels absolutely horrible.

Fastforward 5 more years, in Afghanistan I discovered I had a knack for the harmonica. I’ve still never touched a piano, and never ever will again, but learning an instrument myself on my own, I finally got to learn all the songs my fucking nun teacher never would let me learn and have fun with. Piano is only good if you actually enjoy it most of the time. It is an art, it should invoke your creativity and thinking, but for most, it just keeps them at a never-ending plateau and causes sadness gets boring because you are only allowed the play the boring stuff based on your level. Parents should maybe think about that before they get angry at their kids.

I've been playing piano for a few years now but I have never done grades. I feel as though it's not worth it to continue lessons, because all I do with my teacher in those 20 minutes is progress a bit further into the song - I could do that myself, it just might take a little longer. I also hate missing classes in school for these lessons; it feels like I'm falling behind in school. Should I quit lessons? I been playing since 2015 or 2016 and I still haven’t even learned 10 actual piano pieces because note cards I mean pieces like bouree I haven’t even finished it I still don’t like it and when I say I don’t wanna play my mom tells me I’m acting miserable look I love music but learning piano isn’t playing a bunch of pieces written by other musicians I love the drums I’m good at that I wanted to learn how to play the piano for my music I’m a rapper and beatmaker I know how to do chords but reading off music isn’t doing any good

Honestly I hated the piano my teacher was awful. I partied as soon as I could quit. Would never force my kid to learn piano or do instruments. I stuck with sports lol 😂

I didn’t quit piano lessons. Piano lessons quit me. (My teacher quit and I can’t find a new one.)

Let your kid quit if they have been struggling and hating piano for a long time and if they think that piano isn't their passion.

My teacher is so nice. But I hate hate hate playing piano and my mom says that! (I regret quitting) I just wanna draw. Seriously, my life is pretty good but I would be so happy if I didn’t have paino practice/lessons. I hate lessons to not just practice. Help. It litany takes me hours just to get the motivation to practice. (I don’t have a choice for going to practice). I don’t have the courage to send this to my mom. I love my mom but I hate that she makes me do this.

People quit because they're not satisfied with their progress. Note reading is translation, not music. Theory is totally bull, a waste of time.

It's not that I dont like piano, it's just that I'd rather stick a fork in my eye if it means I can quit

    Parent excuse starter pack:
"You'Ll rEgreT iT aFteR yOu quIt" even though you'll regret wasting time on something that will make you no money(unless you are Mozart-leveL), and makes you hate life and feel trapped.
"You enjoyed it, and its just a plateau!" even though I only enjoy it around once a year when I'm having a good day and the plateau has been on for at least 4 years.
"eXcUseS! iT is BecaUse yoU're laZy" when you don't practice daily and aren't seeing results, even though it isn't something you feel like gives you purpose.
    there are probably more.
Piano is only good if you actually enjoy it most of the time. It is an art, it should invoke your creativity and thinking, but for most, it just keeps them at a never-ending plateau and causes sadness gets boring because you are only allowed the play the boring stuff based on your level.

The problem is that today's kids only have interest in TikTok and video games.
