Having played rugby in the UK for years, when very much younger, I love seeing that respect for the ref has travelled to the new world 😁 Just a shame JP isn't still in the UK.
I understand your sentiment as regards JP being on the other side of The Pond. One of the really enjoyable aspects of rugby is the respect that players have for the officials plus a good ref often facilitates a great game. On a positive note it should help develop refereeing standards over there and that would be good for the World game.

Will be interesting to see what a difference he makes in the next few years to the quality of the games and refereeing from the other officials who are working hard to push RU to the North American continent
I really feel for JP - a world class referee finding himself reffing at this standard - you can hear some of that in his voice - but agree he will be fantastic for the game in North America.
A good irish ref, good humour, and quick witted, a good representation. The IRFU should've gotten him. But it's good that he's helping bringing the standards up in the US/Canada
Love the mic’d ref in MLR. Would like to see other sports to the same in the US. Keep players respectful and accountable. I’d pay to watch JP ref an NFL game.
The Irish Nigel Owens and "part-time coach" is someone who will help with MLR's profile in terms of disciplining and laying down the law like an iron fist. I don't mind if refs like him reduce the players to "school boys" with that constructive criticism on how to improve on the set-pieces and everything else. I'll give it time even if the whistle man is more entertaining than the match itself with the one-liners.
Even referees on club fields on a Saturday afternoon reduce the players to "school boys". I'll never grow tired of hearing 50 year old veteran players saying "yes sir, sorry sir" to referees half their age when they fail to roll away fast enough.
@@kevinwillis6707 certainly room for improvement, MLR is really only in its 3rd year as COVID cancelled year 3 a month in. I played 8 years from the beginning of professionalism in the UK and initially, we barely mentioned defense in our weekly preparation. Toward the end of my 8 years it became a large part of the weekly preparation and strategy. In my mind MLR is already ahead as they are working on improving defensive tactics and skill. A work in progress!
He is one of the best refs in the world, let go for selfish reasons by the UK, glad he has an exciting new gig in the US. A great place for him and his family to spend time. You can see he is being very very patient with the players, because they aren't at the same level he is used to. That number 4 turning away and brought back with a "I haven't dismissed you" in SA, Oz, NZ, UK that would have been a penalty for disrespect. There's a famous line by Lood De Jager, one of the best locks in the world, he's a 6'8" Springbok, he gets called to the ref for a penalty, he looks down at the ref who was probably 5'8" and says "Sorry sir".
JP Doyle was a huge loss to the game in the Premiership. Over in North America he's looking like the best referee they will every have encountered - and perhaps one of the best coaches too, the way he's talking them through the game.
Still one of the best referees in The world in my book and he should still be doing test matches and being associated to LSRFUR West. Make another old boy and the region proud!
Much like Nigel Owens a lot of the focus on JP is on his one liners but he is a good man to get decisions right in a game. A lot better than some thriving on this side of the Atlantic. Mike Adamson, Ben Whitehouse for example. Is he still on the international list?
I just hope he keep his standards up and doesn't let the Americanisms creep into his manner of refereeing. Give him 5 years and he'll be back on the big stage as a top class referee that we know he is
English football referees take note this how a referee should control the game, "come here, I haven't dismissed you" absolutely brilliant, FIFA, UEFA, PREMIER LEAGUE, do you want to know how it is done, watch Rugby Union.
What a loss to European rugby refereeing, a real shame the English had to let him go times are rough however if he is listened to he will improved your game greatly, good luck to him.
Yanks thinking they can treat this like basketball or American football. We don’t scream and shout like pop stars, we treat the officials properly. Lesson learnt, well played Mr Doyle👏🏾
Yeah, i mean all the sports are like that. You complain to the referees etc etc.Thats what i like about rugby, the overall respect between players and referee. Just let us get use to it we are just starting on this and willing to learn.
Not yet, no. The whole point though is to bring rugby to a wider audience and allow the game to grow. The best country to do it in is one where there is a huge amount of talent for contact sport that is wasted (how many high school football players make it to college football? How many college players never make it pro?). Rugby fans will often sneer at American Football, but a lot of the skills are shared, it's the techniques that need to be taught and refined. MLR has the potential to unlock a big audience for rugby in the US in the same way that MLS has done for football. It's never going to be as big as MLB, NFL etc. but a better US or Canadian national team means better competition for the Tier 1 and 2 nations. Take Japan as an example - they've gone from World Cup group stage whipping boys to beating Tier 1 nations regularly. That comes from a strong grass roots base.
He manages players brilliantly and communicates loud and clear, however he explains a little bit too long / too much to players when the balls dead .
