One of their best songs ever. I love the theme of overcoming pain and enduring your reality. This band was once doom incarnate, and they can certainty still go there. However, this band has a happy ending.
a happy ending after going through their darkest moments, realizing that by hitting rock bottom the only way is up and enjoying ever minute of the happiness but never forgetting where they came from.
AIC is by far my favorite band ever, no contest, and that's coming from someone who's completely Grunge obsessed. Theres something to be said about a band that has lost not one, but TWO of their brothers in arms, and STILL manage to be not just as heavy and real, but maybe even MORE so now. Rest in peace, Layne and Mike. We will forever miss you, my friends...
My favorite track on an album of great songs. The chorus of this song and the build up to it with the harmonizing vocals is incredible. It gives me the chills everytime I hear it. I think that this album is so underrated.
I've had the cd since it was put out, but I only recently listened to this song. HOLY SMOKES. Is this song a national treasure or what??? (Making up for lost time!)
This the best song on the album, that's filled with hit's.......I can't believe they didn't put this out as a single. I've learned this song top and down and it's just pure beauty, It's a wall of sound and makes me cry every time I hear it, Jerry Cantrell is my favorite musician of all time and the reason I picked up a guitar when I was 13 (I'm 27) I have alice in chains tattooed going down my forearm....RIP Layne and Mike.....You all changed my life......
This song is an epic AIC masterpiece and an unmatchable piece of art. We'll play it in my band as a tribute cover to the late Layne & Mike. True rock will never die!
They really cut themselves in this album, in a good way. It so great they haven't disappeareared into some abyss, but came back after a hit, being the most worthy.
This song is so underrated. It's without a doubt my favorite AIC song. It incorporates acoustics and great bass and sounds so melodic, a different type of flow and style than all their other songs. Such a nice change, this song doesn't have a hint of anger in it.
Sounds like a song which would have a video where it shows them touring by bus and doing little personal things in it. Kind of like Journey's video of Faithfully.
If it does not have a hint of anger in it then it is not a real AiC song. This is watered down alt rock. Cantrell should have started a new band doing his own thing, not try and ride the name of AiC to new fame. If the music was really that great and groundbreaking now it would stand out on it's own despite the bands name. He knows they will never recapture that and is just using the name to gain a little more airtime and money.
Cole Greenman You snobs are such and earache... There are plenty of AiC songs that don't have "anger" like the whole Jar o' Flies and Sap albums. It was Jerry who wrote & composed most AiC songs, so it should be Jerry who continues the name of AiC.
Cole Greenman Yeah, like "No Excuses" has soo much anger. The Dude knows his art. I'm glad they're doing good. And someone shouldn't have wasted his talent shooting fucking heroin.
No band since Zeppelin makes the transition from distortion to clean better than Alice In Chains. This song removes all doubt. Definitely in my top 2 Alice In Chains songs.
my personal top 3 songs of all time... incredible lyrics and guitar playing, so raw and full of emotion. Got me through a really hard break up. Thank you for your music millions have journeyed through, time will never forget AiC.
This album is filled head to toe with incredible songs. There is not a single one on here that I wouldn't see fit to add to a "best of rock/grunge" playlist.
Bill Duvall exemplifies the equally great Layne Staley. Both of them are among the greatest, greatest musicians of our times and also beyond God bless all of Bill and Layne, and, of course, Chris and Jimmy, Janis, and other heros and sheros of our times and for always
Does anyone else out there imagine what Layne could have done with this? Best song on this great follow-up to the previous Layne-inspired "BGWTB" . Why in the hell wasn't this a single and video? Bizarre....
Beautiful real music here, most rap/hip hop music is fucking terrible and could never outlast this. Today's generation of commercial influenced trash makes me sick. Thank you Jerry for not letting the sound die with Layne and Mike and please keep the band going until you are in your 70s haha! Then you have my permission to retire :D
I used to hate it when rock bands got older and ''middle-aged''. Now I'm middle-aged and I get it. I think the opening lines say it all... Road narrows, pouring down I'm breaking without a sound Bits and pieces of trying Get what you pay for, nothing
I agree with everyone who has commented thus far. I can't get enough of this song. Actually, I can't get enough of this album, but this song in particular.
This is awesome song, no doubt! But I think Duvall should have sung lead on this! I think he should sing lead on most songs. He has an awesome voice. Look what he did with "Hung on a hook."
+SurfingBullDog I agree that "Hung on a hook" was well done, but I prefer Jerrys voice over duvalls anyday. Duvall fits better as back up, did you hear him try to sing "man in a box" live in Seattles stadium? it was horrible. Jerry sings lead in most songs and rightly so.
I agree, Duvall has an amazing voice, especially on lead vocals. But, I think this particular song is best suited to Jerry's style and voice. One of my favorites from him
Wow just the introduction of the guitar part which is acoustic and nice this sounds like it part two of your decision so that your decision of black ways gives way to Blue but it sounds like part 2 of that's your decision song
@@devilofyournightmaree462 either a lap or pedal steel guitar.....played with slide on the chording hand.....used mostly in country/bluegrass. check out 2:15 through 2:25.....but it's throughout this song.. Sounds like "Sneaky Pete" from the Flying Burrito Brothers.
Well, Alice in Chains is a project of Jerry Cantrell. Layne was God, but most of the songs are by Jerry. Only Angry Chair was made by Layne. Of course we want to hear the twing duet of Alice in Chains. So Scalpel is the conjunction of voices i was waiting!!!
pretty damn crazy when you actually think about it, laynes voice can't be matched and Jerry's lyric and guitar work are amazing. great band, great people.
Nicolas Tesla angry chair, head creeps and hate to feel are the only songs he came up with musically. lyrically he wrote a ton and came up with most of the amazing melodys we hear.
NUTSHELL belongs to Layne. He wrote it, alone. But this new song here is actually pretty fucking awesome. If I dare say so, it has a slight country feel to it.
the new vocals they have can sing and some whats sounds like layne...but in my own opinion they should pickup the lead vocals from Downface Tim Anderson he has a sweet voice....check out the song Alone by Downface you will not be disappointed!
One of their best songs ever. I love the theme of overcoming pain and enduring your reality. This band was once doom incarnate, and they can certainty still go there. However, this band has a happy ending.
Beautifully said

a happy ending after going through their darkest moments, realizing that by hitting rock bottom the only way is up and enjoying ever minute of the happiness but never forgetting where they came from.
Just like Bojack Horseman, which I personally think, and hope, that this song should be the closing song to the series for
AIC is by far my favorite band ever, no contest, and that's coming from someone who's completely Grunge obsessed. +BrandtArt66 My sentiments, EXACTLY! Far out!
Very true, it's just not the same without Layne or Mike...but they're both in a better place I guess
You got that right, Lord. If I may add, they're also the loudest band I've ever heard. Just sayin'.......
You are correct sir
This song is so much underrated.
i you say so
I've had the cd since it was put out, but I only recently listened to this song. HOLY SMOKES. Is this song a national treasure or what??? (Making up for lost time!)

damn i feel it.
Choke is the best !
Damn I ought to get a tattoo as well!
After 'Dirt,' this is my favorite Alice In Chains album. So powerful from beginning to end. William comes into his own here, and Layne is proud.
This song is an epic AIC masterpiece and an unmatchable piece of art. We'll play it in my band as a tribute cover to the late Layne & Mike. True rock will never die!
This song is a Masterpiece!
Yes!
They really cut themselves in this album, in a good way. It so great they haven't disappeareared into some abyss, but came back after a hit, being the most worthy.
OMG why are Alice in Chains just so fucking good?.
This song is so underrated. It's without a doubt my favorite AIC song. It incorporates acoustics and great bass and sounds so melodic, a different type of flow and style than all their other songs. Such a nice change, this song doesn't have a hint of anger in it.

this really is a nice easy relaxing song. Love it. Jerry is one of the greatest songwriters and guitarists in history of rock
RobbPaulz without question
No band since Zeppelin makes the transition from distortion to clean better than Alice In Chains. This song removes all doubt. Definitely in my top 2 Alice In Chains songs.
Just thinking if Layne were still alive and recovered from his addiction, he would be killin it on this truly great song.
Alice In Chains
Lyrics mutha fukuh

bout time jerry utilized the ingenius electric guitar sound of whale and wasp and put lyrics into it
makes me think of my brother. r.i.p pete.. gone but never forgotten
RIp man.
I'm sorry to hear that, bro. May he rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss man.
RIP Pete
This is by far the best song on this album, followed closely by voices. And I go way back to when AIC first came out...
Honestly dude, this whole album is awesome. From start to finish.... pure awesome. All the stars aligned for this bad boy.
I like Breath on a Window best. I love this and Liw Ceiling too...those 3 songs flow so well together.
All comes in time
Don't fight it, don't mind it
Whatever may come...
Am I wrong to think this is one of their best songs and top 2-3 albums?
DPDH is up there man, I can really rock out to this album and still hear Layne
A underrated MAsterPICECe.....classic...
Beautiful Song... The best of new album...
1. The Devil put Dinosaurs Here
2. Pretty Done
3. Stone
4. Scalpel (Choke) Tie
5. Choke (Scalpel) Tie
+Cameron Reyno dude...where the fuck is voices??? cmon bro
I just fell in love for this song since the first time I heard it. Just wonderful.
my personal top 3 songs of all time... incredible lyrics and guitar playing, so raw and full of emotion. Got me through a really hard break up. Thank you for your music millions have journeyed through, time will never forget AiC.
This album is actually great. All Jerry internet ass kissing aside; this is a great great album. Well written and well mixed.
Layne and Mike rock the grave they still linger on my mind but we love you too Jerry
from your deeary Sandra Starr
so you're related to Mike? Are you his sister or cousin?
omg
Omg
what a great song - so smooth through each progression
This album is filled head to toe with incredible songs. There is not a single one on here that I wouldn't see fit to add to a "best of rock/grunge" playlist.
I'm feelin the bit of twang they put in this
There's a bunch of their songs that have that twangy country/southern rock influence like sunshine and heaven besides you
+Andrew Roberts Oh yea Cantrell is influenced by country too. Real country.
Been an AIC fan since day one I love it when they do this sound
Lots of cool comments here, guys. It's great to see folks that appreciate REAL music nowadays, unlike so much of the bullshit that's out there.
So I decided, that I will listen to this song every day for the rest of my life. Just beautiful!
Five people are entitled to their opinions....and they`re wrong
Bill Duvall exemplifies the equally great Layne Staley. Both of them are among the greatest, greatest musicians of our times and also beyond God bless all of Bill and Layne, and, of course, Chris and Jimmy, Janis, and other heros and sheros of our times and for always
This is my favorite song right now. So good!
Does anyone else out there imagine what Layne could have done with this? Best song on this great follow-up to the previous Layne-inspired "BGWTB" . Why in the hell wasn't this a single and video? Bizarre....
great voices
Da hora esse som
If there is a song that helps deal and move on from an uncomfortable past, it's this one.
Beautiful. The only word I can use to describe this song.
First post-Staley song I listened to from AIC
Then you have some catching up to do, because they're still one of the best
Listen to this album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, and Black Gives Way to Blue. You won't be disappointed.
***** Already listened to them both. Excellent music.
Best AIC song yet
i stay away is the only old song that even comes close to this! amazing!
man, i wish they played this in their Soundwave set here in Sydney, my fav AIC song since Godsmack.
So true the trash of today makes me want to vomit..why doesn't the rap shit go away and f..die?..
Yeah, I don't discredit any music with a good message no matter how it's done, but this pimps and hoes shit in today's society is sad.
The best grunge band ever still grunging it
I used to hate it when rock bands got older and ''middle-aged''. Now I'm middle-aged and I get it. I think the opening lines say it all...
Road narrows, pouring down
I'm breaking without a sound
Bits and pieces of trying
Get what you pay for, nothing
Alice In Chains can't make any bad songs even the most loved bands have their weaker albums not AIC
I agree with everyone who has commented thus far. I can't get enough of this song. Actually, I can't get enough of this album, but this song in particular.
so ready for the new up coming album
Silver Fox me too bro can't wait
Happy Birthday Layne Staley
1967 - ∞
Underrated and one of my favorites
right turn vibes.
Yeah! No dislikes!
Because of you there are 3 dislikes XD
Now there are 7
8
Its Amazing what they've done since Layne.. Its a Whole 2nd Phase of AIC music.
Great album.
Another jem from Mr.Cantrell and company !! Awesome as usual.
great song,great album
This song is amazing. A true masterpiece
Great Song! Speaks the Truth!!!
Love this song
This is awesome song, no doubt! But I think Duvall should have sung lead on this! I think he should sing lead on most songs. He has an awesome voice. Look what he did with "Hung on a hook."
And Stone

I agree, Duvall has an amazing voice, especially on lead vocals. But, I think this particular song is best suited to Jerry's style and voice. One of my favorites from him
Song brings tears everytime to my eyes
This & Choke.
Still got it. I love AIC!
I like how the intro tries to mess with the listener and the moment the rhythm section kicks in.
Alice in chains has few songs with Jerry as the main singer. It follow this tradition.Very unique style!
Alice Argentina wait for you guys...come please.🙋🙋
Its beautiful to learn to play it too!, really easy just 3 chords on the verse.
So._. Wonderful
And...chilling
One of my fav,amazing :)
Wow just the introduction of the guitar part which is acoustic and nice this sounds like it part two of your decision so that your decision of black ways gives way to Blue but it sounds like part 2 of that's your decision song
This is one of the best AIC songs in years. Saw them in concert a few months ago, and this wasn't on the playlist. Very dissapointed.
voices in my head rocks the most, for me
the song is just called voices
yes, its like this
do you like this one?
yep
im glad of it
Never thought I'd hear a steel guitar in an AiC tune, but I love it.
I think they do in heaven beside you too, but I might me mistaken
What do you mean by steel guitar ?
@@devilofyournightmaree462 either a lap or pedal steel guitar.....played with slide on the chording hand.....used mostly in country/bluegrass. check out 2:15 through 2:25.....but it's throughout this song.. Sounds like "Sneaky Pete" from the Flying Burrito Brothers.
rubbersole thanks :)
its infectious
Might be the best AIC sing- top 5 at least
im not just part of the background, a nobody, i like alice in chains -

Grunge forever!! If you like Alice in Chains vocals check out this new UK band Drunkland! Peace!
Its a good one.
Jerry is a fuckin genious! What a melody!
So underrated
How high the sky...
"Hi I'm Jerry and I'm Layne and were from Alice In Chains and your not" Oh man the memories
IL PARADISO ...
Love!
no offense to layne staley, but william duvall is a great fit for these guys. the last 2 albums are my faves along with jar of flies.
The older I get the love gets deep.
The older Jerry Cantrell gets. The more I know I chased the wrong guy!!!
What do you mean ?
Like the Jar of Flies sound. GOd/Jesus bless and save all that read this.
I pray that the world's economys can overcome it's dependence on fossil fuels. Please God.
the dog record... mostly written by Layne. Corpus here fellow Texans!
Brady TX but grew up near Corpus in San Diego. Used to spend summers at my sister's on Jarvis St. just off airline. Few blocks up from Ocean Drive.
It's called Tripod. Not the Dog record.
Layne would be proud
Lyrics !!
2:13
amazing song
OMG WTF!!!!???
What a fuck is going on with those 22 dislikes???
Why does this sound like Right Turn version 2?
Stop fighting over fossil fuels.
Atheist people act like its wrong to be a believer?
