The Greatest 1X12 Guitar Combo of all time - Fender ‘57 Deluxe TWEED
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- This is one of the greatest amp I have ever played. It's a handwired '57 Fender Deluxe Amp reissue from around 2007. Just by adjusting pick intensity it goes from huge firm glassy cleans to amazing varm blues breakup. To be honest I didn't this was possible in one amp. This is the 5E3 version of the Deluxe, which is the first narrow panel version. The stock speaker is a Jensen P12Q reissue, but I have changed that for an original 1960 Jensen P12N which is a match made in heaven. I'm playing this tweed combo amp with a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom and a 2021 Fender Telecaster Custom Shop 1960 Relic. It's close miked by a Unidyne IV 548 and a EV RE10 (45 deg). Room mic is an AKG C414BXLII (panned right). I use the cubase EMT 140 plate reverb panned slightly left. The preamp is a API 4312+
Finally! 100.000 subscribers. Congratulations, Johan! Your content is clarely a source of inspiration to many guitar channels, about time your channel reached this milestone. Well deserved!
Thanks, that’s kind of you! Cheers!
Let’s GO!!!
The compression is as sweet as honey and the ability to control with picking is priceless!
100%
Thanks Tony!
@@JohanSegeborn thank you for all your years of doing what you do. It's fantastic work!
💯 K Johan fans can't be wrong !!
This is my favourite channel. I am here since 2017, I guess, but I never saw nothing better in the music channels. I am always happy to see it. All my knowledge about the electronics coming from Johan! He is the great wizard of sound!
Thanks my friend! Yeah finally 😆
Thanks, glad to have you here Siegfried!
JS with 100k subs finally! Long overdue. 🤘
Thanks! ❤️
I have a hand wired 5e3 from a local builder and agree that it’s the most articulate amp I’ve ever tried. The way your pick attack determines how cleanly or distorted your notes and chords are really makes for an inspiring piece of gear when dialed in just before the amp distorts.
Probably the only channel on YT that does tube amps real justice 🤘🌞
Thanks my friend! It makes my day to hear that!
Doug and Pat due tube amps justice .
Also Jimmy Burkard gets amazing tube amp tubes . It's a bit Over the top to say there is only 1 person doing tube amps justice on the entire internet
Also Pete Thorn does some of the best tube amp videos going ..
@@adamwatson6916 To me Johan's sound and blend of close and room mics is the most accurate refering to my own experience of playing cranked amps. Channels you brought up are also great. With that being said experience is always entirely subjective so any argument over these things is pointless 🌞
The truth is this amp is so magnificent and 3D in sound that unless you play it you will always think that its lovers are exaggerating.🎉
Yeah! They are certainly right
I'll take a SG into a Tweed Deluxe (channels jumpered) with all knobs on 7 ALL day long! I don't have an original, but I built a Weber kit with a Blue Dog 50W speaker many years ago. Blew my mind!
This demo and the demo you did of the '57 Reissue 5e8 Tweed Twin are the best I've heard on RUclips. Really did them both justice!
Thanks, it’s great to hear that!
100K subscribers! Congrats, man, your content is awesome! Original, a real contribution to the community. Please keep it up!
as someone who recently acquired a 5E3 build with new old stock parts I was really excited when I saw this pop up. You didn't disappoint Johan. Excellent video. Thank You
Thanks Dwayne! Glad to hear it!
Bro is one of the best blues players on yt imo, he makes the pentatonic sound exciting again.
Also incredible feel too.
Thanks man! Great to hear that!
That wind cries Mary - you totally nailed that recording tone…
Thanks! Glad to hear that. Yeah I was very happy with that recording
Holly F... ! What an amazing sounded amp Johan. Truly amazing!
Thanks! Great to hear it!
Congrats on the 100k! And we'll be here to celebrate your 1 million as well.👍😃 Thanks for the content, the history, the enthusiasm and of course, all the tones!
Thanks I’m so glad to hear that! Cheers!
Fabulous sounding amp and speaker combination, perfect way to celebrate 100K for the best channel on RUclips. Johan is demonstrating perfect jantelagen.
Thanks my friend! You know about Swedish culture too I hear! 😄
I was not aware of "jantelagen," so I googled it. The Swedish were on the money with that concept. I can think of one country in particular that would benefit from this concept.
It sounds perfect with that vintage speaker!
Thanks!
Classic amp, on a classic channel! Great stuff Johan!
Thanks Keith! Love your channel
Thanks Johan, sounds amazing. I really like you playing, your touch and dynamics are awesome. Thanks for sharing your passion😊!
Thanks Paul! It’s great to hear that.
Hey, 100k, finally!!! We've been watching you for all those years... Time flies by and I realize how much joy and comfort you brought to my passion for guitar. Wonderful moments and feelings, tones and music, gear and content! So: a big THANK YOU 🙏
By the way, that Fender is a great amp, love those vintage design reissues. In the same vein, have a Marshall JTM Studio ST20 Head, which is a blast to play. You should try it! Cheers Johan ✌️
Thanks, it makes my day to hear that! Cheers!
Great content as always Johan and a huge congratulations on 100k subscribers. All the best from your fans here in Tasmania.
First I want to say, Johan your videos ALWAYS inspire me to play, tinker and experiment with tones. After 20+ years of playing it was only a few years ago you made me realize how IMPORTANT speakers are... it's always a blast to watch your videos and listen to you play!
I always hear the highest praise for these Tweed Deluxes and this video further renforces how amazing they sound, so dynamic and likely... Paired with your playing and recording skills it's an absolute pleasure to experience.
Congrats on the 100k and thanks again for all the great tones, playing and information!
Thanks, it makes my day to hear that!
This is one of the few channels where the amps sounds like they are in real life! Keep up the great work you're doing!!!
Once again brother, you display excellent playing and the tone is great
This of the only amp I play. So damn good. Built mine from a kit and I went with an alnico blue.
Thanks for another great video! The tones you get are always so good and make me nostalgic for the music I loved as a kid in the 70s. And although I am more of a high game player myself, it is so refreshing to see someone that isn’t just chugging away with the game turned all the way up and an overdrive pedal in front of the amplifier.
Thanks, I’m glad to hear that!
Oh my god Johan!! You have hit this one out of the park with the telecaster. This would make an incredible studio amp. Mic’d in a live setting would kick as well. I don’t know if you own all the amps you showcase but if you do, you must have as many as Joe Bonamassa. 😂
Found this exact amp earlier this year brand new with the tags still on it and it’s been a life changer! Making want to change out the stock P12Q with all these tones!
Thanks Logan
Congrats on 100K !!!! Thank you for all that you do. I learn so much from you. Blessings from the USA
Thanks! Glad to hear that!
I really liked the way the Tele sounded through it. Thanks
Thanks, yeah that’s a perfect match
AGREE! This is THE sound every blues/rock player desires... Great video with excellent representation of the gear. Nice playing too, Johan- keep up your great work, here...
Thanks Fritz! Glad to hear it
These amp and guitars are all design from the '50-ies. They got it right already back then. The 5E3 can handled HB's, but my preference is with single coils "Fender all the way". Such a great combination.
Congrats on the well deserved 100k, Johan!
Thanks Bengt! Cheers!
Congrats on 💯K Johan, well deserved!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🍻🍻🍻🥳🥳🥳
Thanks! Glad you noticed!
Happy 100k, Johan. I think many of us have been waiting for this for a long time. Hope you continue to pick up steam from here!
100,001 k subscribers now !! I've been watching you for years Johan. You have the best channel. I'm like you Marshall's are my favorite and I like to crank them into the zone as well. I'm also into Fenders as well. Cheers from Salem, Oregon in the United States !
Thanks Eric! Great to hear that. Cheers from Gothenburg Sweden
I had the 2007 Limited Edition 'The '57' (only 300 made). Looked weird, sounded sublime. Great circuit!
Ah, I didn’t know that. Does it differ from the current one? Other than the Eminence I think they’re using now?
@@JohanSegeborn Celestion Blue speaker, all hand-wired point-to-point circuitry, and an unusual tube type due to availability issues (but it sounded great). It looked like a vintage black car, which was their goal. I still dream about its sound (I had to sell it :(((
This is the one 4 input amp that is better if you don’t jumper the channels. If you plug into one channel you can make really cool changes to the gain structure with adjustments of the channel you are *not* plugged into. For instance if you are in channel 1 cranked and find it flubby, you turn up channel 2 to about two o’clock, and the signal will tighten up. Also the tone circuit is pre gain - as you turn up the tone control you will drive the gain harder. Probably the most interactive controls on any amp ever made.
I recognised that coupling too but this still was my favourite settings
I was just about to write the same thing (albeit less well) Just got my first 5e3 clone last week, the timing is perfect 👌 Mine was modded to have tubed reverb and flub capacitors switch
Congrats on the 100k JOhan. I'm impressed at that 5E3, sounds fantastic indeed. Just the right amount of fat, not flabby, beautiful with both Tele and LP, couldn't ask for more probably.
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
Hi Johan! Thanks for this fun and interesting video! I own a 5E3 replica made by Trinity Amps of Canada and it sounds great. It is equipped with a VRM knob ( Voltage Regulator Module) to bring the Mains voltage down, a bit like a Variac would do. My amp technician Richard Onslow told me that, to get the proper tone of the '50s Fender tweed amps, you got to run them on 110 Volts AC and not the current 120 Volts AC. That's because back then, in the '50s, the voltage in the USA was 110 Volts, not 120 Volts. The were designed when 110 Volts was the standard Mains voltage in the USA....So I use the VRM knob on my Trinity 5E3 amp to get the proper vintage '50s Mains voltage of 110 Volts.
Thanks! Sounds like an interesting amp!
New subscriber here, congrats for the 100k and this fantastic channel I've just stumbled into! Gold mine for us guitarists and rock enthusiasts!
Johan! Always a pleasure! Great stuff Bruder.
Thanks brother!
Fabulous amp! Thanks for sharing, Johan!
Thanks Mark! Glad to hear it!
Great plunking, Johan
You brought out the best of that Deluxe with the Tele IMHO
Cheerios
Thanks Jonny! Cheers!
A guy traded me my epiphone tv special and a hardshell care for a fender blues deluxe 1x12 combo a month ago. I'd say I made out on the deal, and it is such a killer amp. Amazing clean tones, and takes pedals very well.
Fabulous video as always Johan! That amp sounds amazing with the tele.
Getaway is an underappreciated KISS classic!
I love it!
i have a 59 5E3. the original p12 R it came with sounded great but it blew within a month of me having it. i put a hellatone 30 (70th aniversary celestion G12H30) and it is pure rock heaven with that speaker
What's the output transformer on your '59 5Е3? I heard Fender started using the 125A1A output transformers in 1959 in the Harvard, Vibrolux, Deluxe & the Tremolux tweed amps. And it's the same 20 watt transformer that was used in the 6G3 Deluxe & the Blackface-Silverface Deluxe amps.
Amazing guitar tone. Absolutely perfect
Thanks Vince!
@@JohanSegeborn you really do an awesome job on your channel. Thanks
Excellent tone as always Johan!
Congrats on 100,000 subs!
On to 1,000,000!
Thanks Douglas! 😆
Aloha Johan! No wonder the Tweed Deluxe's are so sought after or copied. Great amp. Mahalo Johan.
Thanks Victor! Mahalo!
I've got one of these and it's just an amazing amp. It's my favorite one to use when I just want to plug in with no pedals and get at it.
How come that these dudes, and I'm not talking about Johan 😂, appear to be the best sounding (to use a generell word for a very complex universe) amps 'ever'?
You should have at least a million more subscribers for one of a kind channel on RUclips. Thank You for opening up a Universe for us viewers 👍👍👍🥰❣️
Thanks man, I’m so glad to hear that ❤️
Hi Johan, great amplifier design. I have built a few of these myself and the cathode bias is one of the things that make it what it is. Great demo.
Aloha from Hawaii, Darrell
Aloha Darrell!
My absolute favourite amp ever! Mine's modded to have a mild extra gain switch. Guitar straight into the amp turned up is glorious!
Congrats Johan on 100k
My favorite channel on youtube
Thanks! Makes my day to hear that!
Amazing tone! Congrats Johan at 100k subs🎉 Greetings from the Netherlands.
100k subs keep rocking >>>>>>> hard
this is a very great tone, maybe the best amp on the channel although that is very difficult to say
Thanks! Glad to hear it. I think it’s at least one of the best so far as well
Johan has so featured so many outstanding amps that it's impossible for me to pick out just one "greatest."
What a fantastic video from my favorite youtuber have a wonderful day also congratulations ❤😊
Thanks, really glad to hear that! ❤️
This is the famed Aerosmith tone from Toys in the Attic when you play the Les Paul! There were several accounts of a Tweed Deluxe in that studio that was legendary among the New York session artists! This amp nails it!!!
Glad to hear that! I love that tone. I heard Sweet emotion may be an Ampeg though
Congratulations on 100k !! This amp is amazing! Love the tweed bassman too!
Thanks!
Sounds Glorious Johan ! 😂🔥
Thanks Mitchell! 🤘
100k… bravo!!!!
Pd: this combo sound really amazing (great speaker too)

@@JohanSegeborn thanks to you for share us your passion, you teach us “the mythical” guitar tones of the “golden rock era”…👏👏👏👏 our respect to you…
Damn, that sounds great
Thanks!
Who needs a fuzz pedal hey!!! not when you have that little beauty!! Killer tones thank you :)
Thanks Nathan!
So I've been binging Blues Deluxe vidies this week after finally giving in and choosing to get myself an attenuator too... Johan making a video about it is like an early Christmas Present!
Ok but it’s not a blues deluxe
Thanks! As mrgroo says this is actually another model, the 57 Custom Deluxe Amp
@@JohanSegeborn true - but close enough!
@@lilleatonthey aren’t that similar to be honest. The blues deluxe may be called a deluxe and have a tweed covering but it’s not really that similar to the design of the 5e3 Tweed Deluxe of the 1950s. A couple of big differences being solid state rectification on the blues and not tube rectification like the 5e3, and 6L6 tubes on the blues, not 6v6 on the original deluxe. Whereas the amp being demo’d here is a reissue of the original 1950s low powered deluxe, a blues deluxe is a modern design by Fender and much higher wattage. They are just trading on the cool look with the tweed and the name but it’s not really designed to be that similar.
All true. Completely different sound profile in the end. @@mrgroo
GREAT sound! Sounds like RAWK! \m/
Thanks DMS! 🤘
Had one Loved it. Stupidly sold it. Now I foresee acquiring another one. Thx Johan. In the meantime, the '59 Bassman LTD rules!!!
Hi! Yeah those are great too.
You sound so good.
Thanks, really good to that!
Love the single coil sound, seems to work for me. Dam, they retail at 2.2k !
Thanks Marc!
Would be nice to compare the RI and an original ! I love tweed era amps of every size, I've cloned all except the Twins.
I have done an original earlier in these videos together with Simon

Amp sounds amazing man. I was thinking about picking up a UA Woodrow, but I don't think it can do these sounds like the real amp. Simple circuit but the speaker and cabinet and everything else makes a big difference. I have Princeton that came stock with the PQ12, its a fantastic sounding amp and speaker, but doesn't break up as nicely as this unless its really cranked. Even then, its not the most pleasing distorted sound. The Woodrow sounds like it gets too farty, this really has THAT distorted sound that comes from the tweed circuit.
I've got a '93 Fender Blues Deluxe 40 watt, 12" celestion speaker and that's a great amp but even for the clarity of that amp, which is articulate and classy, glassy and heaven sent, I think I'd go for this '57 but I'd have to really put them side by side because the original Deluxe, which I've got, is just glass to dirt but articulate dirt. Then again, having thought about it I'm happy with what I've got really.
Always a pleasure.
Where to go to get all the tones! Tone Meister Johan knows all 😁
Thanks my friend 😉
With the tele sounds damn good
Thanks Justin!
I love the Tweed sound. Check out a song "Too many hands" by the Eagles, the guitar tones on it are just pure tweed goodness!
A review of the Supro Delegate would be interesting .
Sounds awesome! It would be interesting dropping your G12M in for a comparison.
Thanks! I’ll do that for sure
geez.. i might start looking for one..
!
Glad to hear it
Ahh, one of life's simple pleasures! Sitting down and playing through a cranked 5E3. Sounds fantastic!! I have one of those from about the same year. I also took out the stock reissue Jensen speaker, not a fan. Mine currently has a Weber 12A125A. It's a fun amp to experiment with in regards to speakers and tubes. What tube do you have in the V1 slot? A 12AX7 or a 12AY7?
Thanks! I should be the original EHX 12AY7 but I’m not sure
Sounds ace
Thanks!
Hi, Johan! Its great to hear Gibson+Fender, it makes a good balance. What about your blacky custom LP? I am missing it. See you, brother! ❤
Siggy
Hi brother! Glad to hear it. Regrettably I traded the 2010 LPC 57 though.❤️
@@JohanSegeborn No remorse, no regret! Enjoy every moment of the life. You know better, what to do with your stuff!👍😎
All you need is a 5e3, a Les Paul and some ambition.
Indeed! 🤘
Desert Island Amp with right Speaker
Been waiting so long for you to feature this amp 🙏
Thanks glad to hear that!
I always wanted a 5E3. With reverb hee
Sounds great. And yes you really need to use the guitar volume. I usually use the amps pretty grainy then use the guitar
Be a great studio amp. Get huge tones without being huge
Thanks Glen!
Thank you, Johan. I am thinking about building a 5E3 from the same British company as I did with my JTM45 1964 model, but I am wondering if I should build with cabinet and a G12S25 from 1972 speaker. I don't have AlNiCo speaker. I have 2 4X12 cabinet.
I wonder if you tried to connect the Tweed to a Pulsonic cabinet? Ha' det bra, Johan
Instant page Tone!! With the Tele
Thanks!
Hi Johan. I am on the hunt for one of these babies..since i don't have the vintage speaker you used I want to use an old English vintage v30. Would you recommend? Keep up the good work man
@@avivpinto4013I think too much midrange on the v30. The old Jensens have lots of top and bottom, and a little bit of pleasant upper mid.
My favorite celestions in the Tweed Deluxe are G12h30 and Blue
@@extraplush got you friend. Thanks 🙏
Johan, you marvelous tone wizard, i have a request for a future video!! would you please do one or more videos comparing different break-in practices for brand new speakers of the same model?? such as, comparing the sound of 4 brand new speakers of the same model, after one has been subjected to 24 hours of pink noise... another to 24 hours of low chords... the third to 24 hours of lead playing... and the last one to 24 hours of nothing! what do you think?? the idea occurred to me, and i immediately searched 'Johan Segeborn speaker break in' on youtube, thinking it sounded like something you'd do 😆
Hi! Glad you like the channel! That’s a great idea for a video. I know that Mats Frånlund has done a couple of great videos on the subject you can check out too.
@@JohanSegeborn ohhhhh cool, thanks so much!!
It always comes back to Leo Fender.
Awesome. Now you have to do a Harvard reissue or clone with a vintage p10r!
Thanks! That’s a great idea. I did the original Harvard/Vibrolux ruclips.net/video/hBW1E6LBWOs/видео.html
And the Victoria Ivy League ruclips.net/video/btwc6eHz3II/видео.html
maybe you can do a video of mixing the Marshall and fenders in a room like Bonnamassa ?
Yeah definitely!
@@JohanSegeborn gonna need earplugs :)
You are getting some great Hendirx tones, i wonder if he used one?
Thanks! I think he used a Marshall super bass for that one. But that’s only what I’ve read online
Getaway baby!
🤘😄
All you need 🇺🇸
Gotta getaway. Nice
Thanks! 😀
Johan how does this amp modded with vintage speaker compare to a real vintage 5e3 Tweed Deluxe. How close is it tone, feel, less noisy etc? If money were an issue or were not an issue, how do you think about these reissue amps with changing in parts like this and the Marshall Bluesbreaker you did?
Nice tip of the hat to Sir Psycho Sexy!
Thanks, that’s such a classic riff!
I play the greatest 1×12 combo, it's a Soldano Astroverb.
