    I love this blend… it’s the closest I’ve found to Christmas cheer for me!

    Interesting take on this blend! The reasons you didn’t like it, were the reasons I liked it. Interesting Virginia that changes things up. Any case, thanks for the review!

    Given how dark the leaf appears, coupled with the fact the blend smelled and tasted sweeter than you'd expect from a straight VA, I wonder if part of their process was to stove some of the components. And maybe that stoving yields a similar effect to a Cavendish process. My jar of Sutliff Stoved Virginia is dark in color, moist to touch, and has a dark, sweet, and fermented aroma. That's my theory 🙃

    I've had a tin of this for months and finally gave it a try. It was an ok change of pace. Makes me reminisce about the days of smoking Captain Black a bit. Kinda digging it, but not sure if i want to smoke 4oz of it before opening something else. Im getting the moisture at the bottom of the bowl too. Lol

    We love fig newtons here too, although I thought a plug was whole leaves stacked and smashed. That almost looks like the bane of my existence, the crumble cake

      I think it is just crumble cake pressed under "plug" pressure.

      SPC calls it a plug, and it's very dense. It's not a whole leaf plug, but you pretty much have to cut it with a knife.

    I like that this one lacks the Perique sting of Elizabethan, which I think may be a prerequisite for Bradley to really get excited about a VA centric tobac.
    I really love this one for reasons you note and in my experience it stays lit easily - maybe I dry it a bit more.
    Thanks for this - and all your reviews.

  • @wadehampton1534

    Bradley, you need to dry this blend out until it feels a bit too dry. Hearth and Home Fusillers Ration is the same way. They need to be thoroughly dry, but not crispy, in order to get the best results from them. If it's gooping up on you, it's too wet and needs to be dried out a lot more. Play around with it, and the experience will become way better! I abhor goopyness in my bowl, but it can usually be eliminated (unless it has PG) with some additional dry time. Thank you for the honest review, I really appreciate your reviews, and I do think that you will like this one better if you dry it out more.

      @stuffandthingsyoutube  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, Wade! I have let this dry until it was very crispy a few times, and I still had the "gloop" issue. Thanks for the input though!

      @@stuffandthingsyoutube I think that it is unredeamable then, Bradley :-( I bought a can of it when it first came out, and I had to really dry it out and pack it loosely. It's really not my particular cup of "tea" either. It smells so good, but it's got some funkyness going on that I'm also trying to sort out. It is a BIG plug, and unfortunately that's a shame! I'm still enjoying Lizzy Beth immensely, that's one that you turned me on to. Now I paid it forward to my brother, who is now an Elizabethan dude too. We kindly thank you, good Sir!

    Wow, I didn’t realize it was a four ounce tin, I may reconsider purchasing it then. My only gripe here is the price considering you can buy much more Semois for about the same price, and I love Semois.

    It’s so interesting to hear your take on it. Like Silas, the reasons you didn’t care for it were the reasons I loved it! I usually smoke virginias in a dedicated no-name estate briar, and really enjoyed the flavors. I’m a newer pipe smoker though so my palette isn’t as refined yet lol

    Some time ago, I had an Early Morning Pipe match from Sutliff that felt and tasted exactly like what you were describing here. I remember thinking "this is between an over-flavored English and an under-flavored aromatic". Not my cup of T.

    It’s so weird how these videos evoked long suppressed childhood memories!
    Pretty much the only brand that came through my family was Player’s Light tobacco and cigarette rolls. I remember the white plastic tobacco container was about the same size as a can of ground coffee you would buy at the grocery store with a blue screw on lid. The tobacco was loose, and the stuff got everywhere. Are all tobaccos pressed into tins like this now?
    Also, can you tell us more about the intro and closing music?

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

      Most blends come in flatter round tins or in "cans" like this. Just music from an old band I was in!

    I got some sweetness but it was more subtle. I did however get a ton of spice from it. Can't believe it doesn't have a boat load of perique in it.

    Is it a real plug (whole leaf)? It looks like a pressed ribbon cut from this vantage point, like a really dense crumble cake. I don’t buy much anymore, it’s gotta be something I’m really excited about and this one just didn’t seem too exciting to me, I already have my favorite straight VA’s on hand. I like that we are still seeing new blends hit the market though, I hope we continue to see more for many years to come.

  • @poutsa1974

    I assume the plug breaks apart when you cut it, do you gravity feed it? I ask as I love flakes and prefer tobacco to be one piece as opposed to cut and broken up. Enjoyed this review, as always Bradley.

    • @igortheterrible8983
      @igortheterrible8983 2 года назад

      Breaks apart easily if i pull it apart so i end up with kind of broken flake ribbons...if you cut it and rub it out you end up with that silly 2x2mm confetti cut, similar to most thick flake cut sutlif blends, the double pressed john cottons
      And if you cut it but dont rub it will fall apart to the touch so...DONT CUT 🤣
