@@DannyZee Have you checked your mosfets? I have a feeling your ECU (DME) might've also fried a coil or an injector. Usually failed mosfets causes a ton of codes to throw

I feel your pain Danny, My 335 did not make it 3 hours after installing a single turbo, ended up getting rod knock (was my mistake from replacing rod bearings) Ended up throwing a used motor in & have been making 550WHP for months now with no issues + beating the car to death. If you had over boosting issues it is likely your wastegate was sticking closed, if you used a china waste gate this can happen! Based on all your super knock codes I can't help but think you did over boost OR ran out of fuel & busted a piston/Ringland.

Yeah bro, I feel you. It really depends where u get this stuff from, You can ask a chinese company to make you a top quality cnc product and they will, just the same as you can tell them to make a cheap one. Just be careful where u order these stuff from!
Don't forget the snow performance water meth injection kit as well, if you're still running the cast pistons. I'm piecing together my kit now, and as far as I'm concerned, the water meth injection is going to be part of my kit since everything else is forged except for the pistons.
The meth injection will be installed along with the everything else before I even drive it. Meth Injection literally stops detonation/knock, or at the very least, it significantly reduces the chance of detonation/knock.

You have to disassemble the engine anyway, just throw a set of Rods and pistons, you'll probably won't have to touch it again. ❤

hey DannyZ I wonder if the compression was low not due to the valves but if its the piston rings that got washed out by a stuck open fuel injector, its possible that if you retest compression with like one to two ounces of oil in the cylinder the compression would be closer to 150 if no compression rises then yes a bent valve is likely

Tearing out the engine is a beast but in the end we’ll find out if it was a rod, piston, baring, valve, lifter ect... Could drop the oil pan to see if there is any debris or glitter.. Seems like the engine is totally salvageable, but it’s gonna take some work which is something I would love to see!! 😊
Happened to me with my boosted mustang. My oil catch cans smoked just like that and turns out my top position oil ring fused together 😂 swap motors boosted it again now it’s a killer! Love the vid man! My ADHD mind just loves it!!

I blew up the ZF transmission just after 2000km with a simple downpipe and remap. 3000€ to fix that and while going 270km/h i had a coolant light (low level) and sparks coming from the exhaust… this time it was nothing serious but it had already too many problems and i sold it because i just could’t beat it like before (i was always afraid that something could broke). And that took away from me the joy of driving that car 😭
But yours is a lot more special than mine, please rebuild it ❤️

If u have a overboost problem I think might have leaned out which caused u burn a valve and give u low compression. If u add little bit of oil and see if it increases, if it does it’s the rings.

Always happens with the single turbo swap!!im keeping twins mosselman and ok no issues and pulling strong.
You could use MHD to monitor the AFRs if you think the tune is running stinking rich I guess, but given the smoke and compression testing it could be piston rings or valve stem seals, something like that :) However, if you haven't already I would first pull and test your injectors (check The Bimmer Barn video on testing injectors), ssince this is pretty easy to check. I've seen injector failures causing somewhat similar issues before, and it could explain the low compression if the seal on cylinder 6 injector is completely shot.
In to deep now might as well build it.

You need better engine internals forged piston better rod bears and springs I basically n54 making over 600 whp something gonna break if your pistons and Rob’s are stock maybe u had over boost problem too build the motor make more power

The “super knock” is your first clue. It was detonating (aka knocking) from either not enough fuel or too much timing. Probably melted the piston or broke a ring land. That’s why it’s smoking out the PCV hose so bad. You killed the ring seal with detonation. All the combustion pressure is going straight past the rings. Also why you’re seeing low compression on that cylinder.

don't give-up on it remove the engine from the car and check the damage it will be worth rebuilding it if it was a minor damage especially with supporting mods for it

We might be in the same boat… did my 3k oil change lastnight and saw shavings…. Idk if it’s from the diff or the oil. I’m going to cut my filter open tmr 💀. I only have dp’s, exhaust and a 93 tune too so if it’s hurt it needs to die now before I throw these Xona rotor turbos onto it.

Buy another motor, leave it unopened and send it. They're cheap and a very easy swap. Perfect excuse for a tear down video as well. Do an 8 speed swap at the same time so you can be shifting like that supra

Broooo no way, I just have the same problem. I got upgraded turbos, running on MHD Stage 2+ and one day it just started smoking like crazy out of the exhaust. I had errors like 2AAF (fuel pump), once a superknock on one cylinder and a 2C7B Lambda-Code
Watched all of the vids up to this point, I was expecting you to upgrade the rods and internals, especially for an N54, but you didnt, nice build overall, it'll come back eventually.
Hopefully we get to see a complete motor build

these clock hands are doing the job, what model is it exactly? I plan to bring to Poland such a BMW e92, the same engine as you, and I want to do something similar to yours when it comes to tuning
Think after the first run he was ok. It was the second and third run that he killed it. With the N54 Engine the factory rods and crank aren't balanced 100% their within the normal operating spec for 300hp map. Now your 2.5 x....the horse power. At low rpm the factory balance gets torque way too early... hence bends rod from 2.5x boost. Hence always be fully tuned and run allot of Data logs. My suggestion if you go single keep power level at 550hp till you get money to forge the engine. Just purchase parts through out the year and the following year pull the trigger. Too many people want instant gradification and it winds up cost them double or triple. Also just a suggestion the you if going beat the hell out the car up the oil weight (Motul 300v 5w40) or competition weight. But do your research...
Agree 1000% also needs way more fuel if you want to turn it up. 2) 525 or 535 fuel pumps + port injection if you want to run anything over 15-17 psi and 17 psi is pushing it. I feel his pain tho. Seen the exact same thing happen to a good friend of mine. Definitely build it and with supporting mods you will really see what a N54 will do. Not sure that auto will handle the power tho 🚀🚀🚀

Build it it’s safe and better put more boost. My g37 blow the motor and the block broke in pieces and got on fire man. But in god we trust the process she come back better harder. 🙏🏽❤️

Looks like not enough fuel/low octane fuel issues. A superknock will bend your rods… hence low compression now.
It would be cool to see you rebuild it but maybe get an already built bottom end and swap

Stock tune car cuts out when it’s not giving enough fuel.. so this doesn’t happen. The safe tune wasn’t safe enough. (MHD cuts out as well to avoid this)
Since you spent all that money to set it up , it is probably worth to do a rebuild if you know someone that can do it and you can promote on your side

bro I wished I had found u sooner if u had built the head and did single turbo you would have had a dummy proof 335 but you can only push so much through that transmission you live and you learn the cheapest thing is to take it out inspect it prob gonna have cylinder damnage get it re sleeved or buy a new motor and buy them built heads
aim for 500hp them from there do drive shaft axels you have you have the supporting mods to be able to do anything with that power

Honestly if it’s a 6 bolt motor I’d build it if not just get a low mile 6 bolt motor and run that and build the other on the side. It could be a number of things causing low compression fr bent valves, piston rings, etc

Did you try to clean the spark plug hole and reseat make sure to clean compression connection, not gonna lie your walbro pump or spark plugs might be the issue, but with a single could be over boosting man id like to see a log something wasn't setup right im sure wedge did good but who knows.... watched the end yeah bro go with upgraded twins first then you would of been running good single right off with no experience was a mistake
Im dead ass trying to buy a 335 this weekend and then you drop this video should I be disencouragesd ? What should I be looking out for when checking the car out and what turbos should i replace the OEM ones with i want something that wont blow on me im not looking for to much power just some fun on the weekends and I'm trying to still be able to drive it once in a while to work when i decide not to ride my bike
Need them support mods man, gotta do the research to see what those rods and pistons are rated for. Plus, look at your rear end, you might need to get upgrade u joints and diff. As someone who built an rx7, I even upgraded the transmission just to up the boost by a few pounds. Lots of work to make a reliable build besides just slapping a big turbo and fuel pump/injectors on it
There is a good amount of these motors making 600WHP on stock internals reliably

@@Kamshaft most people unfortunately don’t take care of em so it’s tuff to find a nice n54 platform that hasn’t been redlined on low temp, i’ve deadass never met anyone in life who told me that a n54 was a good idea to invest in
@@Kamshaft isn't his car like a 08 or 09? Those motors making those "reliably" are probably fairly new or non-abused. With an older model like this, the first thing you should be doing is reliability mods. I just recently found this channel when he was putting the turbo on and told my gf that I bet he didn't upgrade the fuel system first. I think he needs to do some more research on failure points (for me, it was apex seals that I needed to upgrade before even thinking about upping the boost). I know the newer models can handle some power, but the wear and tear on an 09 or older should warrant upgrading the internals before throwing a big turbo on

Regardless I rebuilt my 2007 550i BMW 4.8L N62. I completely rebuilt the engine and transmission. Every.Single.Piece. Bearings, transmission valve body, piston rings all that. All BMW OEM parts. And exactly 2 weeks after the rebuild the transmission slipped out of gear low RPM going 20mph, limp mode activated (even tho it literally stoped moving the car, no matter what gear i put it in it would not move an inch) BMW gotta have a time bomb attached to the ECU to ruin the car if it detects that you modified it or tore it apart. I have rebuilt several cars before and my friend Shawn who rebuilds transmissions for a living helped me rebuild the trans. And it STILL crapped out 😭😂
Do a leak down test and see what the cause is. Either time to pull the head or the engine😢

The issue is that it’s a N motor lol. They’re so hot and cold. They almost always go eventually.

The issue is that it’s built by him. So many potential mistakes that he could’ve possibly made. Knock is due to pre ignition. So many things could cause it, but the motor isn’t the problem.
