Developing our Future Leaders - BC Timber Sales Forest Technologist Entry Level Program

When the lack of qualified forest technologists willing to work in the north jeopardized timber
volumes for mills and mill jobs, the BC Timber Sales division stepped beyond their job
descriptions to develop a Forest Technologist Entry Level Program (FTELP) that is providing
youth with on-the-job pathways to a professional designation and opportunities for career growth. Located in Mackenzie, the program helps young people establish ties with northern communities and BCTS while addressing a serious recruitment and retention issue affecting the forestry
sector.
