    Would you camp in Belanglo State Forest?

    • @rh6078
      @rh6078 2 года назад +2

      I probably would camp there but totally understand that it might feel a bit strange knowing what happened. It's certainly popular there anyway

      @rh6078 Yeah, it's a weird feeling. I'm a rational sort of fella, but even so there's something odd about going to a place with a history like that. It's certainly thought provoking at the least...

      When I tour on my bike now, with my dog, even though I feel safe, you just never know, so I carry protection, because their are many nutters on the road around Australia. I think, what happened to the backpackers, my wife's cousin, and us being up in Kimberly's WA in the mid 80's, when that nutter was driving around killing campers ( the real person , that the Wolf Creek movie was made about), and they have never found him, so I or we ( wife), don't go bush without protection, regardless of what the law say's, as you know, legally you cannot defend yourself in Australia, must call the police, no good if you are 500km from them, and no I would not came knowingly at a place where murders were carried out.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  2 года назад

      Yeah, that's fair enough. Australia has such remote areas that "Call the Police" just isn't a solution.
      You feel very vulnerable on a bicycle at times anyway, without potential nutjobs to worry about!

      @@ricmoffet6843 They ended up catching him though didn’t they? Ivan Milat. Died in jail a few years back. By “protection” do you mean a pistol? Or a knife? Or a 12-pack of Ansells?

    Man-oh-man, you were in and through some of my 'territory' in this video, Dave and Bonnie! Firstly, bad luck about having to miss Sydney but maybe you'll get the opportunity to visit again. Goulburn, which barely rated a mention is where I had my bike shop for about 4 and a half years, most of it during the "recession-we-had-to-have". 'Nuff said. Moss Vale. I was only there last Wednesday, visiting my long-term friend and having dinner with her at the BEST Chinese restaurant ever. You rode right by it, just before riding under the railway bridge in the main street. I lived in several areas around the Southern Highlands and rode the bike almost everywhere. I rode in the strongest winds I had ever experienced there, too. Wish I was still there, actually..... Re the Ivan Milat thing, I was around there both before and after his 'reign of terror' but I sure wouldn't be interested in camping at Belanglo. No way, Jose! I'm looking forward to your next video. Hopefully, you will give Kiama a bit of a 'rap'. Beautiful, little place. Here's a video that I made, when I visited there a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/Ur9W5lLBB20/видео.html Sorry for the poor voice at the start of it, Well done on this one!!

      Oh, wow! Never knew you had a bike shop!
      Yes, unfortunately we passed through Goulburn quite quickly. Partially due to the main "stroad" that takes you through town. We found that quite unpleasant, but we did manage to get onto the little path that goes along the river - which was very nice! I have some footage of us riding there, but it didn't make it into the final video, as I found it didn't fit with the whole "flow" of it.
      I have a ridiculous amount of footage that I just haven't used because I'm trying to be a bit more ruthless these days in an effort to keep the videos a bit more "to the point".
      We never went to Kiama, as our saviour gave us a ride all the way to Newcastle and we picked up the ride from there - but we're planning on heading back to Sydney at some point because we're pretty sad that we didn't get to see it - and I have it in my head that I'm going to get dropped off at Moss Vale and ride the section that we skipped! Maybe it's OCD, but the fact that we did a section by car bugs me!
      I'll check out your video with my morning coffee!
      Cheers!

      @@VeloObscura Yes, that would 'bug' me too, I think, getting a lift - but not forever. When I toured Tassie with my mate Eric, we accepted a lift one day, because of the wind and rain. That was the same day we slept the night in a bus stop shelter.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, I don't think I'll mind too much if I don't get to do it, but it would be nice to "fill in the blank" from that part of the trip if the opportunity arises.
      We're more concerned with the fact we missed Sydney! We had a lot of things to explore there!

    as i was watching and you mentioned moss vale was thinking be great if they go bernies and what do you know! hahaha.... if anyone thinking going via goulburn and wish to get off the freeway sooner best get off at marulan and follow the tourist route via highlands way which goes through tallong-bundanoon-moss vale Long point lookout south of tallong a must see location and good camp spot or Bundanoon Gambells campground if you do stay there some great national parks to explore even the glow worms cave or just stop in for coffee. can go to the coast by robertson (the big potato) or world famous pies. or can follow to the old south rd-Old hume hwy via Picton to camden then city.

      Ahaha, we loved Bernie's!
      Yeah, someone else suggested going that way. I remember seeing it when I was looking at the map and planning our route and it definitely would have been more pleasant, but it wasn't to be! In the end it all worked out anyway! 😁

    When we lived in the Southern Highlands, we lived quite near the murder forest, but not during his reign, after it had happened. Only visited the memorial and one quick 1km trip into the forest. Not a place to die. Actually my wife's cousin was also murdered in a forest west of Belanglo. She was just 18, never found her body, and the guy that killed her got killed trying to escape custody, and jumped off a 5 story carpark to get away. He had also had murdered his fiancee before he killed my wife's cousin. We had lsst met her at a family reunion when she was just 9 months old.

      Bloody hell, Ric! What an awful story!
      I didn't know anything about any other murders in the area. That's extremely tragic. Unrelated to this case I presume?
      I can't even imagine how many other poor souls are out there undiscovered...

      @@VeloObscura No, not related to Milat, just another nutter, that liked to overpower women. But their are a few area's and roads that are bad for bodies, like the Colo road from Sydney to Singleton, and the murder stretch between Rockhampton and Mackay, on the old inland stretch, a lot of hitch hikers disappeared on that stretch, and Milat was working up there at the time, so it's on the cards he was behind them all.

    • @VeloObscura
      @VeloObscura  2 года назад +1

      Ah! We know the murder stretch well! You will find out how well in future videos!
      I was unaware that Milat was up there at the time though...
