Essence of Ironman

Held every fall in the US city of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, the Ford Ironman World Championship encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (ocean) swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride (across the Hawaiian lava desert), finishing with a 26.2 mile marathon along the coast.
Before an athlete makes it to the championship, however, a spot must be won through one of the qualifying events which take place annually around the world.
Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events are held in various locations in Australia, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, the Canary Islands, South Africa and Europe.

It was the happiest day in my life to be able to qualify and race in Kona 2014. Now I am in very low place in my life. The sport saved my life once as I head out for ride now I am thinking, would I be brave and strong enough to get back there? I always try to be realistic when setting goals and the Kona Dream seems very much unreachable now. If I ever get back there I will post here again as this vídeo was one of the first motivational video I watched about the race and it never gets old. 1) There is a lottery. 200 people get in by lottery every year and all they have to do is complete a half IM distance race in the year they win entry. 2) Not all AG athletes go under 10. Most athletes over 50 are significantly slower. 3) Kona is a beast. People who go sub 10 have been known to blow up and go 14 + on the big island.

something confuses about that because if i have to go approx. 10 hrs to qualify for kona....how come there are men every year struggling to make even 13 hrs or even the 17 hrs...think about it if someone struggles to finish in say 15 hours how in the world did they qualify to get to race kona in the first place????
