But I still don’t think we’ve seen that Oscar performance from him where it is unmistakably his season to sweep. He’s gotten close but no cigar yet. I believe that undeniable performance is coming from him though. I do think he will win an Oscar someday soon. I really dislike the narrative around him now that he’s desperate for an Oscar. I know it’s clear he wants one but any actor would love to win! I think it’s unfair to hold that against him. I wasn’t a big fan of Maestro but last year the discourse around him was awful. He definitely didn’t deserve such negativity & bad press over campaigning. This is how I would rank his nominated performances 1. Silver Linings Playbook 2. A Star Is Born 3. American Sniper 4. Maestro 5. American Hustle
I am sure he will win at some point. Honestly, I found Maestro to be very problematic as a movie - and I didn't think Bradley was going to win for it. However, I wish he had won for "A Star Is Born" - his performance was much more powerful and haunting than Rami's (which was more of an impression). Here is an idea: Glenn Close (8 noms without a win) recently said "Sunset Boulevard" is back on! She is looking for a director. Why not Bradley Cooper directing and starring as Joe?! He could direct himself - and Glenn - to their first, overdue Oscars!!

Maestro is a movie that was released at the wrong place and the wrong time. Had that movie been released this year or a few years ago, Bradley Cooper would have gained momentum and would have won.
his best chance was for A Star is Born, but that was on the GG that Malek won, his film was huge and he had a wonderfull speech, also an Emmy winner, that was unstopable it is crazy that the 1/4 of the EGOT he has is actually a Grammy, which should be the most dificult one to get for someone who is primaraly an actor he will get an Oscar one day, the 12 time nominee sometimes sounds like its many, but considering as an actor, he is only 5 in, he still a way down to get to Close or Adams levels i do like that he is a really good producer, because since Sniper, he has produce some really good movies, and like Joker show, not just interest because he was a star in it
A star is born was the lady gaga show. All the attention was on gaga, her performance and the music. Even tho Bradley wrote, directed, produced and starred in a star is born, he was relegated to the background during the whole campaign run of a star is born. Gaga out shined him in interviews, redcarpet events, award shows, on the Internet (her iconic quote ,there could be a million people in the room.....)etc
Bradley Cooper’s versatility is undeniable. Unfortunately, from an awards standpoint, he is over exposed and spread too thin. I don’t think he should “chill” for that reason - if he wants to direct/star in/write a project - he should go for it. But his awards campaign would be taken more seriously if he does one thing exclusively. Honestly, I can see him winning for writing like Kenneth Branagh.
It’s amazing just how many times he’s been nominated and not won, as well as the various times he could have been nominated and wasn’t. I feel like he’ll get something at some point, but who knows if and when that’ll be. Thanks for the video Rob, keep up the great work and take care!
Kate Winslet finally won for The Reader in part because she made it clear that she was tired of just getting nominated. Meryl Streep ended a long drought with her win for The Iron Lady in part because she made it clear that she was tired of just getting nominated (and she got some of her friends to spread the word, nothing wrong in doing so). Cooper was always known for being a good guy (he helped calm Will Smith down after the slap incident). I have to wonder if there haven't been smear campaigns by competing interests, similar to what Harvey Weinstein used to do but not as obvious. I've enjoyed Rami Malek's performances in Mr. Robot and No Time to Die, but I'll bet that a lot of Academy voters regret their votes for him in 2019.
(By the way, the only thing I like about Bohemian Rhapsody is the Live Aid concert recreation. And it's sad that Bradley Cooper couldn't get that Oscar for A Star is Born, because he had the harder part. Lady Gaga didn't get that far out of her comfort zone for her debut role -- although she's great. Bradley Cooper wasn't known for being a singer, and he's also directing. He should have won. At least over Rami Malek).
Maestro was in one of the best Best Picture lineups in years. Timing is everything. It didn't stand much of a chance. I agree. He'll win one day. Maybe it won't be for his best work, but he'll win.
True, _Maestro_ was the most obvious give-me-a-break Oscar-bait of the Best Picture lineup last year. It was the only one I had no enthusiasm to see. It was like the _Elvis,_ _Darkest Hour,_ _The Theory of Everything,_ _The Danish Girl_ of their years.
He should have gotten a nom for night mare alley. He was incredible in that film. And cate Blanchett should have as well. She was so deliciously calculated .
To be frank, it appears that the credibility of any movie released on Netflix is somewhat diminished. In my personal opinion, Netflix is often associated with lower quality productions. While "Maestro" may not have been a remarkable film, had it been released by a reputable distributor like Fox Searchlight and given a proper theatrical release, it could have garnered more industry recognition and attracted a larger audience in movie theaters. Regarding the stylistic and filmmaking choices, it would have been better in the end for Bradley to omit the black and white scene and film the entire movie in color. This becomes particularly evident when considering Christopher Nolan's similar stylistic decision in "Oppenheimer." Unfortunately, "Maestro" suffered due to its film style and distribution strategy.
Should’ve won Best Actor for A Star is Born. Way better than Remi Malek. Even though I thought Christian Bale was the best of that lineup, Cooper would’ve made a worthy winner.
I give Cooper a lot of credit for co-writing two great roles for actresses and then directing those actresses to lead Oscar nominations while acting opposite them.
Definitely should have won for A Star Is Born, I think he’s incredible in it. Though my favourite performance of his is Silver Linings Playbook. I also thought he should have been nominated for Nightmare Alley which I found to be very under appreciated and he’s so so good - the ending relies on his performance being spot on.
Let's not forget that Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole were nominated 7 and 8 times and never won anything...also, Glen Close now has 7 nominations to her name if I'm not mistaken, without a win...if the Academy doesn't want to reward you, they can spend your acting lifetime ignoring you. Now, what gives Cooper a little bit of a chance to win is that, unlike the people I mentioned earlier, he can win some day, in the producing or directing categories.
maestro simply didn't have the content to make a film it was flawed from the start its not an interesting film and it becomes more style than substance he made the most of it, but its a content problem. bradley is very talented. he will win many times in his life. hes young.
Jeffrey Wright was the best of the nomine this year follow by giamatti. Personaly Cooper Is no my choice in any year expect a star Is Born for best picture. Also think if malek didn't win for Bohemian rapsody bale would have gotten for vice
I think he was wrongly overlooked for Maestro particularly in his directing role. I thought the movie was wonderful but clearly he's not the Academy's blue eyed boy so he didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning an Oscar. Too much favouritism in that industry and not enough recognition of genuine talent.
The hate was unnecessary and everyone involved fess up. He at 3 opportunities from my.POV. SLPB, Sniper, and A Star is Born. Rami Malik winning , though I enjoyed the movie was always one of the worst wins for me that already doesnt hold up.
If maestro was released in 2014 or 2015,it would have dominated award season and Bradley would have won everything. The movie industry has changed so much. The academy doesn't like over the top prosthetic type of performances anymore.
_"The academy doesn't like over the top prosthetic type of performances anymore."_ Well good! Honestly, who isn't tired of these forgettable 10-pounds of makeup Oscar-bait junk these days? I was sick of it in 2014 when Eddie Redmayne won, instead of a more original character like Michael Keaton in a way more original film (or Jake Gyllenhaal who wasn't even recognized), films you actually remember seeing afterwards.
i don’t think maestro as a film is going to be remembered while oppenheimer will be forever. it was over the top in terms of acting too. TRYING to get an oscar is strange. just act good and hope it comes your way. the oscar is not the end all be all of acting and the focus should be the movie itself
The problem with Maestro was that it had a great style but the story and characters left much to be desired. Beneath the veneer of the colourful cinematography and the musical sequences, there’s just not that much substance to that film. Like most music biopics incidentally.
He just needs to not do too much. If he can direct without being in the film then people will take him seriously as a director. And the same in acting if he can act in a film without him being director writer and producer then who knows. Social media has final say on everything and that includes awards
I love Bradley Cooper, and I didn't understand the hostility he received. Because he wanted an Oscar? Of course he wants an Oscar! He's been nominated 12 times! Glenn Close wants an Oscar! Of course, I haven't seen Maestro, because I don't have that streaming service, so I was going for Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer was my favorite movie last year). I want him to win an Oscar, and I hope he does. Loved A Star is Born so much (although my favorite version is the 1937 version).
Maestro was a decent film. Cooper was courting the Oscar too hard. If Glenn Close doesn't have an Oscar, not bothered that Cooper doesn't even though he is a decent actor.
I love your detail-oriented videos! I also like Bradley but I'd prefer if he never wins the Gold because it puts him in a special category, like Deborah Kerr, people still to this day talk about her NOT winning but who of the normies remembers who won 3 years ago??
The internet blaming him for Zac Efron's snub for Iron Claw was unjust, Zac was a revelation in that role but for whatever the reason may be the voters just didn't give him the nomination. I wonder if it had to do with campaigning or lack there of for Iron Claw. An interesting video, if you haven't already done it, is the history of failed Oscar campaigns that yielded little if any nominations. Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing and Ava DuVernay's Selma as two possible examples.
Honestly, Bradley Cooper should've won something for A Star Is Born. A Star Is Born was a far better Best Picture winner choice than Green Book in my opinion. Idk if A Star Is Born winning Adapted Screenplays against BlacKkKlansman would've been a good idea but I wouldn't have mind either of those two movie to win
@@melisagalvalizi6982 _A Star Is Born_ is not a modern classic. What are you talking about? No one's talked about that film since it came out. People only remember "Shallow". The first two versions of _A Star Is Born_ are classics, not the Cooper one. Also, _Green Book_ and _BlacKkKlansman_ are modern classics and get played on TV quite often. Conversely, I've never seen _A Star Is Born_ on TV.
He's a very good actor and should have won for A Star Is Born, but i think he has been nominated by the Academy too many times, especially for undeserving performances like American Sniper and American Hustle, (and maybe even Maestro). It's insane, quite frankly, that he has five Oscar nominations for acting.
He needs to chill now on the award baiting as it’s won him few new fans, in fact it’s only ended up turning fans against him. Much like stars who become overexposed and become vilified, he needs to take on roles now that aren’t Oscar baits.
Ya know, I heard a rumor a while back that he was going to direct and possibly star in a biopic about the Bee Gees. I don't know if that's ever gonna happen, but if it does, all I can say is this. Bradley, the Bee Gees are one of my favorite artists. Don't screw it up! 😡
I don’t think it played a huge role but I feel like Tár coming out the year before Maestro and being so successful put people off Maestro. I heard lots of comments about how Maestro was “the male Tár”. While I don’t agree with that as they’re very different movies, they’re both about conductors and maybe that was enough to derail Cooper’s trajectory.
I think the problem he had for Maestro is that he was desperate to get an Oscar and people caught onto that and that’s why he came across as the Oscar villain. Nothing wrong with him saying he wanted an Oscar, but he didn’t come across as very humble compared to someone like Cillian Murphy. When you become desperate you fall into that Oscar bait category and that’s what happened to him unfortunately
Directing himself sets him up for failure with awards. I hope someone tells him that. He so deserved it for ASIB but he had three strikes against him there: the directing, Malek being the "it" boy, and the fact the ASIB was a creaky old title that had been done too many times. Yea, the advice for him is to just let go of the pursuit, be humble (publicly at least) and just keep doing good work. Be grateful you're an in-demand working actor. Oscars can be kisses of death for careers. Be careful for what you wish.
In a less competitive year, Maestro would have done much better. I didn't like the film, but I thought Cooper was excellent (Mulligan even more so). He has an Oscar in his future; it's just a matter of time.
True, Maestro was in one of the best Best Picture lineups in years. Timing is everything. I agree. He'll win one day. Maybe it won't be for his best work, but he'll win.

I wasn’t a big fan of Maestro but last year the discourse around him was awful. He definitely didn’t deserve such negativity & bad press over campaigning.
This is how I would rank his nominated performances
1. Silver Linings Playbook
2. A Star Is Born
3. American Sniper
4. Maestro

Bredli*
I really hope he wins someday but not for a Brad Pitt 12 years a slave producing Oscar. After all of this Cooper needs a real Oscar moment
Well Brad has a supporting actor Oscar.
@@kellie-nd1yp I know I just meant the producing one he got first that everyone kind viewed as a little bit of a technicality
I understand. I do hope he wins for acting.
@@TheOscarDogs Yea, Brad didn't even get to talk when he won for Best Picture.
Maestro is a movie that was released at the wrong place and the wrong time.
Had that movie been released this year or a few years ago, Bradley Cooper would have gained momentum and would have won.
The movie needed to be better for people be exited for giving him an acting win too
Bradley Cooper should’ve gotten his Oscar for A Star Is Born.
his best chance was for A Star is Born, but that was on the GG that Malek won, his film was huge and he had a wonderfull speech, also an Emmy winner, that was unstopable
it is crazy that the 1/4 of the EGOT he has is actually a Grammy, which should be the most dificult one to get for someone who is primaraly an actor
he will get an Oscar one day, the 12 time nominee sometimes sounds like its many, but considering as an actor, he is only 5 in, he still a way down to get to Close or Adams levels
i do like that he is a really good producer, because since Sniper, he has produce some really good movies, and like Joker show, not just interest because he was a star in it
A star is born was the lady gaga show.
Less is more, stop trying and its yours
That will probably be the case.
Now I completely understand why Cooper is losing his mind about an Oscar considering he somehow lost to Malek and then Green Book. I'd be fuming too.
For me him deserves win to a Star is Born and nominated for SLPB and only, the other nomiations is not great
Can you please do an Elusive Oscar video for Michael Fassbender?
It’s amazing just how many times he’s been nominated and not won, as well as the various times he could have been nominated and wasn’t. I feel like he’ll get something at some point, but who knows if and when that’ll be. Thanks for the video Rob, keep up the great work and take care!
Just wait until you find out how many nominations Warren Beatty had before he won Best Director for "Reds"
One could say Bradley was his own super hero. The Fantastic Four for two back to back movies where all 4 actors were nominated. 😊
I haven't seen Maestro, but I can only think of 2 roles he maybe deserved an oscar. Silver Linings Playbook and American Sniper.
“A divisive film that SOME PEOPLE LIKED” so shadyy
Should’ve won Best Actor for A Star is Born. Way better than Remi Malek. Even though I thought Christian Bale was the best of that lineup, Cooper would’ve made a worthy winner.
Willem Dafoe should win that year for the Oscars 2019 Best Actor
I give Cooper a lot of credit for co-writing two great roles for actresses and then directing those actresses to lead Oscar nominations while acting opposite them.
I liked him best in Silver Linings Playbook. I was really looking forward to Maestro wow what a mishap. So much work and talent to just bore me.
Can you do Richard Burton and the elusive Oscar
Definitely should have won for A Star Is Born, I think he’s incredible in it. Though my favourite performance of his is Silver Linings Playbook. I also thought he should have been nominated for Nightmare Alley which I found to be very under appreciated and he’s so so good - the ending relies on his performance being spot on.
Nightmare Alley deserved so much more!
Agree
Let's not forget that Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole were nominated 7 and 8 times and never won anything...also, Glen Close now has 7 nominations to her name if I'm not mistaken, without a win...if the Academy doesn't want to reward you, they can spend your acting lifetime ignoring you. Now, what gives Cooper a little bit of a chance to win is that, unlike the people I mentioned earlier, he can win some day, in the producing or directing categories.
Glenn Close actually shares O'Toole's record now
@@MorganKing95 See? That's even worse than what I thought:) Thanks for correcting me there.
A Star is Born 💔💔
maestro simply didn't have the content to make a film
it was flawed from the start
its not an interesting film and it becomes more style than substance
he made the most of it, but its a content problem. bradley is very talented. he will win many times in his life.
Bradley Cooper is quantitatively more overdue for an Oscar than Leonardo DiCaprio ever was.
Jessica Chastain just won
@@SoulKnightKing Winning for a movie that came out 3 years ago is not "just won".
_"The academy doesn't like over the top prosthetic type of performances anymore."_
Well good!
Snubbing him of a nom for Nightmare Alley is still insane to me. Just in that final shot alone he did more acting than some do in an entire movie.
i don’t think maestro as a film is going to be remembered while oppenheimer will be forever. it was over the top in terms of acting too.
He should have won in A Star is Born so bad 😢
I really liked Maestro💜.
So did I. 😊
I first knew him as Will from TV’s Alias.
He got ROBBED for A Star is Born. Not only was it a fantastic performance, but the winner was Remi wtf Malek 🤦♀️
I thoroughly enjoyed Maestro… there I said it 😂
Me too!😊
Maestro was a decent film. Cooper was courting the Oscar too hard. If Glenn Close doesn't have an Oscar, not bothered that Cooper doesn't even though he is a decent actor.
Don’t worry, he’ll finally do it for his role as Deacon in the Days Gone film adaptation
I love your detail-oriented videos! I also like Bradley but I'd prefer if he never wins the Gold because it puts him in a special category, like Deborah Kerr, people still to this day talk about her NOT winning but who of the normies remembers who won 3 years ago??
I can assure you that most normies do not know from Adam, who Deborah Kerr is.
_Iron Claw_ came out too late for most awards voters.
Can you please do next mark ruffalo and William dafoe?
Honestly, Bradley Cooper should've won something for A Star Is Born. A Star Is Born was a far better Best Picture winner choice than Green Book in my opinion. Idk if A Star Is Born winning Adapted Screenplays against BlacKkKlansman would've been a good idea but I wouldn't have mind either of those two movie to win
A Star is born has become a moderna classic, that says it all.
He needs to win asap
He's a very good actor and should have won for A Star Is Born, but i think he has been nominated by the Academy too many times, especially for undeserving performances like American Sniper and American Hustle, (and maybe even Maestro).
It's insane, quite frankly, that he has five Oscar nominations for acting.
Bradley should have won for Nightmare Alley
Were you sick when recording this? You didn’t sound as enthusiastic in the narration
My favorite nomination is best actor for a Star is Born and the joker
Is it like Leonardo DiCaprio elusive Oscar? 🤔
By the time he finally won, the world was a party!!!
He needs to chill now on the award baiting as it’s won him few new fans, in fact it’s only ended up turning fans against him. Much like stars who become overexposed and become vilified, he needs to take on roles now that aren’t Oscar baits.
He should've won for Silver Linings Playbook
He should have I agree.
Bradley Cooper don't need no Oscar, even if he thinks he does. Oscar needs him though, they just don't know it yet, but they will.
Should've been nominated for his role in The Comebacks
You probably should do a Diane Warren Elusive Oscar
I think the problem he had for Maestro is that he was desperate to get an Oscar and people caught onto that and that’s why he came across as the Oscar villain. Nothing wrong with him saying he wanted an Oscar, but he didn’t come across as very humble compared to someone like Cillian Murphy. When you become desperate you fall into that Oscar bait category and that’s what happened to him unfortunately
Bradley wasn't even winning any critics awards for asib, Ethan hawke was. You can't force these things, no one knows what will connect with people.
Cooper should have won best actor for star is born. Bohemian rhapsody was crap
I guess I'm one of the few who liked Maestro! Loved that film! By the way, are you getting over a cold?
Amy Adams & Bradley Cooper, same stories
That’s what I think too and Carey should’ve been far more competitive. She was one of my to top five performances for the year in any category.
True, Maestro was in one of the best Best Picture lineups in years. Timing is everything.
I agree. He'll win one day. Maybe it won't be for his best work, but he'll win.
He should’ve been nominated and won for Nightmare Alley. I have a really big problem with the films he has directed for a number of reasons.
He deserved for his role in A star is born tbh but the academy gave it to Rami malek wtf
You can just imagine him cursing the heavens in the privacy of his home lol
